it's not like mario kart at all. and the "transformed" version with boats and planes is absolutely terrible. played MK games on GBA and DS for... thousands of hours and it's just not the same and these sonic kart games aren't worth it by themselves. if you wanna go for either I'd say pick ASR and not ASRT. that game just stinks it's like all colorful and slick so you hope for it to be good but it's just bad

SEGA and Nintendo do racing in different ways, except for that one time when they made a racing game together. S&ASR Transformed was influenced by the old games Sumo made for SEGA, especially Outrun 2006 C2C.
I personally prefer the drifting and boosting focused gameplay of transformed, and the fact that you can dodge projectiles.

Speaking of coast 2 coast, ive been spending money every week on the arcade,
I might have to open a thread, to get an idea of how much a good steering wheel costs

Not a clue, never bought one, I use a DS3 controller for almost every game. But I'm sure someone should have a good advice and expirience with them, a thread sounds like a good idea.
I wish I owned c2c, never bought it cos back then I was a full-time pirate and when I got into steam it was already gone :( I managed to buy a physical copy of Virtua Tennis 2009 a couple of years ago, but never even saw one for Outrun in the wild, I wonder if they even bothered to import it here.

I actually enjoyed the original more: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Yup pretty much as close as it gets. Still not quite the same... but fun nonetheless.

+1 for Re-volt, however the light weight cars are too easy to roll and out of control, which are remote toy cars suppose to and add more fun while playing with friends. It had been on GOG for a short time but now de-listed.

BLUR had powerups on the courses like Mariokart iirc, and was on Steam but was removed a few years ago.
Macbat 64 has a kart minigame, and is on Steam, but its very basic.

There's been several Mario kart clones on PC. The two earliest I know of are Skunny Kart & Wacky Wheels. Neither has aged really well (Skunny kart is a flat out bad game). More recently we got the rather excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which actually better than Mario kart in my opinion (and I say that as a big fan of the Mario kart series).

Teddy Floppy Ear - The Race - Literally it's a Mario Cart with Polish toon called Teddy Floppy Ear.

Sonic is the best one I have tried so far. Blur wasn't bad but I don't think it was all that 'Mario Kart'-ish.
Also, dolphin + xbox controllers + roms work quite well but you should only use legal backups :-) I can confirm that dolphin will work with 4 xbox 360 controllers and you can pick up a wireless receiver on amazon for $20-25 (one receiver is all you need for all 4 controllers)
Edit: Also, is there a good way to giveaway copies of Zero Gero that one might have leftover in their inventory (SG counts it as bundled so no GA and since its not a key I have to send manually)?

SUPER TUX KART.
It's a Mario Kart clone with its own flavour, featuring iconic characters from the Linux community.
It's also free, open source, and it's been greenlit last march.
