The obvious option that others have failed to mention is just buying as a gift. If you buy it as a gift you can then send it to the other person's email address after the giveaway. They then will not only get the Steam activation key, but also sometimes a DRM-free back-up and/or extras (though these things are kind of rare).
This option is not only more logical and simpler to send, but it also avoids the problem you encounter when buying a game and just revealing the Steam key. That problem being: you will still have the game in your Gamersgate library. Gamersgate limits you to two instances of the same game in your library, so best not to have one in your library if there's any chance you will want to buy one for yourself in the future (or if you've already bought one for yourself).
Also, as has already been noted, not all Gamersgate purchases provide Steam keys, be careful.

If I buy a game for Steam and want to give it away here which option do I use when purchasing?
Do they send a key in the e-mail if I purchase for myself and can send that key to the winner?
Or purchase as a gift and not put in a friends e-mail and reclaim it later?
