What's a good free game that will keep my mind busy?

I'm asking this because I lost my second dog due to her old age and I literally cried for two days when I lost my first dog(never lost anyone close to my life besides my two dogs). Been unable to enjoy most of my games and videos (dog commercials) :C

try secret maryo chronicles; a free open-soruce and cute attempt at the original game (no princess saving though, just fyi) you can download it from here this game is a real time waster- you will be playing for hours on end...

also, you can check out this thread on sgs... some pretty good titles there as well as links to sites with even more freeware and free2play games

Its fine, and hmmm, been thinking on trying out Lord of the Rings Online but this part stopped me: "However, it really is f2p until level 20, after which the player will face major roadblocks in terms of advancing to the next level and completing quests (since this was an originally pay to play game, (I am assuming) quests were designed with the belief that the player buys certain high level equipment from the store to complete the quest), etc and also at every other 10 level after level 20. You are not required to pay a penny and can probably find ways to continue playing without paying but you will be left out of 2 main areas (where other quests are and major pvp's take place)." I don't want to turn into a beggar or anything to continue

haha yeah, I know what you mean. However, I was recently told by some people that this is not the case on LOTRO, so I am trying to decide on whether to continue leveling my lvl 17 character... (he was lvl 45 and said you aren't really loosing out on a lot and can continue without paying)... I am on the crickhollow server btw if you decide to give it a shot.

Also there's forsaken world on steam. wow clone but can keep you busy for a looong time, and it's better than lotro imo. game-wise, not story/lore-wise, of course.

Winrar will do the trick. 7-zip is... well... not always compatible. But necessary on the very rare occasions Winrar refuses to play nice with a 7z file.

I just downloaded it and extracted with no errors. Winrar v4.00. Sorry it's not working for you, maybe the file is corrupt somehow? I can only suggest downloading it again. Little things like this can really suck the fun out of trying a game. :(

Spiral Knights is a horrible suggestion. Not that the game is bad, but its' Free to Play mechancics make it so you will get an hour a day tops unless you buy stuff or have generous friends. Probably one of the most obnoxious F2P gate mechanics out there. If you're wanting some mindless dungeon running better off with the like of Nexon games (Dragon Nest, Vindictus) which have gating of sorts (generally later on) but not nearly to the extent of Spiral Knights.

I found that the best of the free2play steam games was Champions Online, although I REALLY liked that you dont have to make a 3rd party account for SK

eh, once you run dungeons a bit and get mats and sell them or craft things and sell them you can buy more energy with the money, then the cycle continues...

Well it needs Games for Windows and requires a hotmail/live/msn account. I think it keeps your status somehow ...not sure about that much still new in it too!!

I definitely recommend Cosmic Break. It's basically an arcade mech shooter mixed with an MMORPG.

There is tons of free games out there these days.

As stated Dwarf Fortress is the greatest game ever made (and still being made)

KSP is also fun but thats actually an alpha/beta for a game that will be sold

Theres also World of Tanks (And eventually the spin offs World of Warplanes and World of Battleships)

Pirates of the Burning Seas is also a good way to pass the time for a bit..

Arma 2 also now has a free multiplayer only version.

Arma 2 is fun but the multiplayer has been horrible for me in the past. Every time when I try to join any game I just get bunch of errors :(
