So i want some suggestions for good horrors. Be aware that i may not watch them if they seem too jumpscary or overall creepy. Current favorites are some classics like "The Thing", "Evil Dead" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" among many others. And "Sinister" among modern ones but that is almost too scary for me. Recently watched "It Follows" which was way too scary for me and i had to keep lights on a few nights :)

Can't go wrong with one of the best horror movies of all time from my favorite director: Night of the Living Dead.

As someone who watched it recently, it didn't age well (to put it mildly).

Don't get me wrong: it's a classic, but not a timeless one apparently.

I'd say watch Dawn of the Dead instead. That one is still very effective.

That's just factually wrong.

Well i would say it was ahead of its time when it comes to scary.

Hmm, yeah considering it was probably made around the same era as Psycho (another great horror movie). Altho, i still find it decently scary. There is a remake too, which altho much much worse but has color for those who dislike b&w movies.

A few recommendations:
Sleepaway Camp (the first one at least)
Scream
The first 3 Nightmare on Elm Streets
Hush (though I think this is more thriller)
Final Destination
Halloween 1 & 2
The Fog

I've only seen the first Friday the 13th, but I think this year I'm going to go through more of the series.

Yes, Sleepaway Camp is an underrated classic, just like Scream (which people wrongly label as teen slasher, lol, no it's much more than that, an actually intelligent horror/thriller).

Hush was also amazing, despite the minimalistic approach.

Right?? First time I ever watched Scream was last year, and wow did it kick ass! I really liked the ending too, and I found the other movies pretty equally enjoyable (which is rare for a movie series to me).

Yeah, it's very rare (or non-existent) that the entire series can keep up the quality but Scream actually manages to do that - although I haven't seen the latest entries from this and last year.

I don't usually watch horror movies, but just a couple of days ago I watched "M3GAN" and found it refreshing, and far from the generic hack-and-slash of those movies. This one had a permanent "creepy vibe" in most of its scenes, related to certain... advanced doll toy. Can't say more without spoiling the movie.

I really like campy, trashy horror-comedies. It's not "scary" but it's creepy enough for Halloween, like Reanimator, Basket Case, Brain Damage, Dead Alive, The Stuff... Even with some violence it's mostly funny and absurd. Willy's Wonderland is a recent example.

I really like Hellraiser and Videodrome, but I get it if you're looking for something lighter.

Also you can skip on the horror and watch something "weird" but not exactly scary, like Psycho Goreman, Elvira, Hocus Pocus or Rocky Horror Picture Show.

+1 to Elvira! Elvira was great! Glad to see it get mentioned.

The Addams Family movies too!! Classics!

And I really need to reiterate that Psycho Goreman is one of the funniest movies I've seen in my life. Insufferably bossy little girl finds an ancient intergalactic evil and turns it into her servant. It even includes tokusatsu-style villains and really weird rubber puppets, not to mention it's somewhat of a parody of bad 80s teen movies.

I'm not a fan of the genre as it gives me nothing. I rather get annoyed by the stupid decisions and dialogues than scared.

But the few I'd recommend:
Don't Breathe
Get Out
The Others
10 Cloverfield Lane
Constantine

Honorable mentions:
Quiet Place 1+2
Doctor Sleep
Tau
Freaky
The Hunt
Army of Darkness
1408

Quiet Place 1+2 are great. Currently watching Doctor Sleep (quit due to it being generally crappy tho, imo). 1408 is decent too. I am unsure if i have seen The Others. Constantine is on my watchlist. 10 Cloverfield Lane didn't appeal to me (altho i love the actors in it, the pacing and acting was just horrible, the first was better.)

Mirrors (2008)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790686/
"An ex-cop and his family are the target of an evil force that is using mirrors as a gateway into their home."
Mirrors is a 2008 American supernatural horror film directed by Alexandre Aja, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, and Amy Smart.
It only has a 6,1 on IMDB but i enjoyed it. Have a look at the trailer on IMDB.
It has at least one memorable scene which may cause you extreme discomfort 😉

The age it takes place in is very interesting, yet the creators of the movie managed to do nothing with it.

I work in retail, so I believe especially the greatest horror to view at this time of year is "Michael Buble Home for Christmas movie concert thingie", the true horror of it is you know with a sense of impending dread that in a few short weeks you will be subjected to the crooning Canadian cheese conveyer callously crucifying Christmas carols* for every hour of your shift for the next few months, and there will be no escape, no hiding and no relief.

*I am quite proud of the amount of words starting with C I managed to string together in a semi coherent sentence

Actually i am a complete wimp with scary movies, I much prefer halloween episodes of TV Shows, they tend to have more of a sense of fun and tongue in check scares.

Original 2 Ghosbusters movies were fun/silly 80s adventures. Just not quite as silly as Shaun of the Dead. None of which are all that "scary", but fun for the Halloween theme.
