haha! You were very good in defining what it really means rather than hijacking it to mean something that it does not mean.

I once used the term "bikerfag" for everyone who is so obsessed with biking that they wears biker shorts and the whole getup for every ride, even though they are not competitive riders and are only engaging in exercise. A friend of mine improperly freaked out at the reference.

Was it derogatory? Of course! Was it meant to tear down such a person and belittle their sense of self-worth? Of course NOT! Like the extremely broad realm of humor--we poke fun at our human behavior to laugh WITH ourselves.

Who is responsible for the oppression of homosexuals from living their life? Not me and I would hope not maxakagaret.

Apparently you are "not that kind of person to go around and make fun of people for their hobbies"--good for you. Especially when we are poking fun at ourselves--you do not control how people express themselves. No one owns words and ideas--they belong to no one.

If I express that I enjoy licking ice cream from the bottom up, someone else can hijack my expression all they want--nevertheless, it does not change what I originally meant and my right to express how I feel. (Or, your right to blacklist me for my ice cream habits--or the expression of such. Let's be honest--Is there a lingus crowd who "owns" the term 'licking?' Did some group oppress another group in the past with... Oh my heavens! I was trying to make a point, but they did! "Get in here right now, or you will get a licking!" Do you know how many unsavory memories I may have thoughtlessly stirred up in others from their own experiences in the past? Someone should really set me straight for attempting to reclaim an idea and a word that is not mine.)

I am sure that you have seen the South Park episode which officially redefined a word in the dictionary.

Someone tried to demean me by calling me a "niggerlover." I said--"well, yes I am." It gave them no where to go. The word had no power over me.
