No, you can play with people on macs and pc. Soon to be linux.
Portal 2 is the only game on steam that I know of that you can play with PS3 users, and I heard some GFWL are PC and Xbox 360 friendly.

on steam, it refers to PC and Mac.
So you can play with people playing on the mac version (and possibly linux when/if they make it)
