Saw many people joining contributor giveaways that have only private giveaways maded by em. Is it fair, how do you think? Nothing personal, just want to hear your opinions.

If they actually gave the game and not just faked a giveway then it is perfectly fine.

Agreed, i am thinking of making a private giveaway for some of my friends. As far as i know its fine as long as the game were actually given and activated by the winner.

Isn't that the point of private giveaways? To give stuff away to a smaller closer community?

I mean it's easy to cheat, cause you can just create group for you and ur friend and give away darksiders II or whatever everyday and let him type "recieved" every time.

The system doesn't count private giveaways with one or two entries only. Though the cheaters can use like five accounts to try to get by that too.

Yep, but the fake accounts need to pass a certain value of games in their account before they allowed to sign up for SGifts and CG said they were writing code to check that all winners of giveaways that had registered the game as received had actually activated that game on their Steam account. Not just claimed to have received it on SGifts such that the fake giveaway creator gets the count up.

Wrong, giveaways with two entries do count as any other giveaway.

I tend to agree that public giveaways should be considered for more. In a lot of cases private giveaways through Steam Gifts could have easily been done without Steam Gifts, and I imagine that the main reason they're here is indeed to add to the contributor's profile.

I like how you ask for opinions and declare that only one viewpoint is sensible :D

And I for one openly admit that I started private giveaways when I could have just started a puzzle on the forums, made a list with the names of all who solve it and then have some kind of randomization algorithm pick one for me so that it is reflected on my profile.

And I'm not trying to be snarky when I say that I noticed that you gave away 24$ worth of games and are probably not eligible to join most contributor giveaways.

That would be so fine if public area wasn't filled with thousands of leeches
Some nice folks appear there too, but sooner or later they end up being invited into one or more groups
After making public giveaways that ended up unplayed or traded by winners who never contributed anything... I was done with public... Contributor giveaways might bring me back to it, when the dust settles down and the exploits are taken care off.
Privates were used mostly for puzzles, and now are being exploited too
