I did a post 3 months ago, which I really liked as it sparked some deep and profound discussions. So I would like to do something similar.

This time I would like to discuss people whos' financial situation did a 180 turn in the last year. It may be for the better or for the worse. You may reveal as many details as you like, or keep as many as you like to yourself. The important thing is that we get a dialog and discussion going.

I will not put a giveaway here, but instead will pick commenters at random and will add them to my whitelist. I usually have at least 1 whitelist GA running at any given time, so hopefully this will be enough of an encouragement for people to participate in the discussion. To check if you're on my WL, click here.

Banks is Ok to lend us at 1,1% to buy a better (I mean a very better) flat. We won't have difficulties to pays monthlies refunds cause it's the same as today with much long time.
So I think, as one of us as a job we are out of lot of troubles.
We now have to garanties ourselves from a big accident for the survivor in the worst case and for the kids.

Just a slight correction, Banks (or whoever gives the $) lend money and you borrow it. A lot of people make that mistake.

I decided on a job and am now working on designing some satellites.
I still have some leftover college projects and exams but not a lot of time to work on them.

Missed your previous poll... got worse for me, again...

Lost my job a couple of years ago due to back problems (father in law needed to come scoop my out of my work van, as I was stuck there in hellish pain coming from my spine), tried to get schooled in another profession, had to stop to get surgery done early 2016...
Although we are a country with "universal health care" and the state takes over half your pay-check to fund this (actually it's 1/3 if you count in what your employer has to pay into social security for you but is prohibited to put on your pay-slip), I was left with a bill for over €5000!
.
After my surgery, I hoped to get access to several programs to help disabled people get jobs, as I couldn't do any of the jobs I did previously. They told me I had to wait 12 months till my status on social security changed... (this period, my income was halved)
Just before those ended, the social security "specialist" decided to kick me from it as he said I could work my old jobs, this left me with 1/5 of my former income...
I can't and am prohibited to do so from my spinal surgeon! (hint: putting together an Ikea wardrobe makes me bedridden in pain for 3 days,)
.
Of course I went to court to dispute this decision, and now the court has decided he was right as their "specialist" (a simple doctor with no expertise in spinal problems) told them he thought me fit for work, what happened during his "examination": my spine was fixated and this "specialist" was pushing me down when he asked me to reach my toes because he was sure I could bend lower, causing immense pain at the places where the titanium bars were fixed to my spine, they also do a test where you lay down and have to lift your legs, he pushed my legs up too high, making me scream in pain, etc...
.
Hadn't they thrown me off of social security, the programs I would have qualified for would have gotten me into a job that was perfect for me and my health situation at least 10 months ago... we have businesses here (entire factories etc...) that only employ people from such programs)
.
So, here I am, only having 1/5 of my former income, forced to find work on the regular market while all my expertise is in jobs that require lots of physical labour, while I can't do that any-more...
(and I won't because I refuse to risk getting into a wheelchair for a measly 2000/month after taxes!) (edit: for those that think €2000 is lots, A rent for a decent place here is at least €800 to €1200/month, you can buy a dump for €100.000 but if you have a family, get ready to pay 240.000 + fees + taxes... energy here is very expensive, water as well... Most families pay about €400/month for those bills combined, etc...)
Now I'm looking into every possible program to see if there are loopholes that give me some chance to enter so I could apply for a job that I can still do.
.
This off-course impacted my ability to make giveaways heavily, so I'm sorry for leeching most of the last year...

First of all, you can leech all you want from me, I won't mind ;)

Secondly, did you consider studying for a different profession? One that will be more suited for your current physical condition...

Thanks 😄 I appreciate it 😉;)
I did try to learn another profession after my father in law scooped me out of my Vito, that is what pushed my body over the edge and made a surgical procedure inevitable...
That costed me lots of money: fuel (it's about €1.40-€1.50/litre for Diesel here, the closest school for adults is 40Km away and my car uses 5.4L Diesel/100Km average, higher car insurance: more km/year, daycare for the kids, books, etc... while no extra income came in to cover these, even the "internship" you have to do is "free"...
.
Sadly the school kicked me out when I was drugged out of my mind due to painkillers that nurses had to administer twice a day intramuscularly (I was on 6x200mg Tramadol pills and 2x 1g Tramadol injections/day, and that didn't even stop the pain, I was on the edge of getting into a wheelchair for the rest of my life) and I couldn't phone them right away (missed only 2 days of class before they kicked me...
.
The place where I did an "internship" 5 days/week knew about it (they had to call the doctor on me, and even helped to get myself and my car home, as I couldn't drive...), but I couldn't phone the school that day as it was on a Saturday and school was closed at that time...
When I was cleared for epidural Injections, I called the school first thing the morning of the day I got out of the hospital, I didn't know I got kicked yet as it was the first clear moment I had since the internship called the doctor when my body finally gave up on me... And I thought the internship informed the school, or the school asked the internship if I missed days there as well, but neither informed the other...
Unfortunately, I could only get 1 injection/month, and its effect didn't even last 4 days...
.
Thing is, that study costs lots of money, while I get nothing on top of my meagre social insurance (currently only 1/5 of what I earned when employed) for doing so... All the while, rent and bills keep coming...
The only option I see is to find a job that makes no problem of my disability and lets me earn a honest wage...
I can't lift anything over 5Kg without having pain later, I can't sit all day, stand all day or walk all day... I need to change positions at least every hour, or I'm in pain...
.
I loved everything I did before (from gardening to repair technician on the road...) but it all involved heavy labour/lifting... All the studies I can do for jobs that would suit both me and my condition are ones that take 2 to 3 years to finish... I can't stay that long with such low income any longer, as this ordeal has costed us everything my wife saved and me saved up already...
.
But enough whining... I'm going to find something I can do, even if I have to invent a job and get my own business doing it 😎

Much worse here, lost my job of almost 12 years (a year ago tomorrow) and I have no prospects, I´ve only had 1 interview in all this time and I don´t even send out many resumes because for basically every position available (and there aren´t that many with the economy here -Argentina-) they ask for either knowledge or experience I don´t have and/or younger people (I´m 43). Also I have plenty of health issues (mainly depression and fibromyalgia, plus a few other things such as IBS).

I can't say it's drastically but I have some job problems right now. I have credits to pay for and need new PC, also I have to feed my parrot, and of course I got regular expenses too. But I got a job offer and will go on interview and my situation will go back to normal or even better, cause it will be job with better salary.
I wish I was at least a bit rich. I would help my friends too with my money, cause it's what I want to do. But I can't if my wishlist is growing and the costs of things are not low...

A month ago I was fired because they did not consider accompany my wife to the clinic because her mother was at life risk a good reason to miss work.
Now im constantly going to the clinic with my wife, which does not allow me to apply for a full-time job (no one would hire someone who would ask for free days and permits since first day)
Luckily I had some savings and my profession allows me to do freelance work. But time passes and the income is not the same as before.
The good news is that my mother-in-law's health condition is much better now.

Mine has greatly improved. I went on disability (short-term then long-term) in Dec. 2016 due to back issues. After having had who knows how many injections/shots into my spine. I'm scared to death of needles, but I'm being honest on not knowing total number. It just became ordinary. I was able to come back to work on day 700. I am a field operator at a Nuclear Plant so I have a pretty physical job. It's been a struggle coming back and trying to build the stamina back up. This is a job I've had for 25 years so it's been great getting back with my crew and actually being productive. Yesterday was actually my first solo watch since I've been back and I only wanted to 2 die twice during the day so it's getting better lol. Oh and throw Hurricane Harvey right in the middle of all this. Sorry for wall of text, thanks for your time.

I'm back to SteamGifts after a 2 year absence, so my post is about 24 months instead of 12.

Compared to two years ago, I don't even recognize my (financial) situation anymore.
My (now) wife from abroad moved in with me around two and a half years back.
I was already on a tight budget, but I managed to make it even tighter by letting someone move in with me.

In the course of two years I got two major raises and now I make more money than I ever could imagine (Note that I'm not rich, far from it, but in my line of work people usually don't make what I make with my (lack of) education. I now earn above the national average.)
Recently my wife also got a well paying job and we now have a double income. We're actually looking to buy a house now.

If I told myself where I'd be at now to the three-years-ago-me, I would say "Married? Yeah right, as if I can find a girl I can tolerate living with for longer than a week! Enough money to buy new shoes without checking my bank account first? Yeah right, maybe if I save 25 bucks every month I can buy them in 2 or 3 months!"

I'm now in my mid-30's, and since a year or so I can say I mostly wake up with a smile instead of stress. I feel strong enough to face some of my recently risen upcoming challenges head-on.

To anyone that currently lives a similar life to the old me, please be patient, good things come when you least expect it.
Instead of looking at the floor, keep your eyes open, you might miss some great opportunities passing by.

Edit: My post got bigger than I first expected without
