Hello,

Can you please clarify if the HB monthly bundle games will be considered bundled from now on. It seems all games from the July HBM were added as bundled. Is this specific to this one only or not. I am not looking to start a discussion as to whether or not they should be considered bundled or not, just want to know and plan accordingly.

thanks

The price of the bundle is less than 5% of the retail value of the games, so they fall under the "discount higher than 95%" rule to get bundled

thanks for that mate. i had the wrong impression i thought it was lower and that hb monthly was somewhat of an exception... i could have sworn that games with less than 95% discount had been added before. in any case thanks for the explanation, mate.

It gets a bit confusing - games have been added that have never been below 95% in my region - but it turns out they have been more than 95% off in some other region after taking exchange rates and stuff into account. It would appear humble monthly was never an exception, when it went more than 95% off vs total value it was bundled - same as anything else.

yeah, I think my own confusion stems from that aspect as well :) I think that any game on steam store that I had ever seen at 90% was always bundled, which was the reason I thought the number was somewhere around the 90% mark. But as you say, I guess the reason there was possibly regional pricing.

What adam said. It does not matter whether it's from Humble Monthly nor does it mean every Humble Monthly will be bundled from now on. What matters is that SG always bundles sales that go below 95% discount, and recent monthly did. In similar fashion - in the gift purchases times on Steam when something went on Sale below 5% of US Store price in any region it was added to bundle list. Somehow it did not indicate that "discounted during Summer Sale games will be considered bundled from now on" :>

We can't know before a bundle is published if it's going to be bundled or not, depend on the total value. But so far July has been the first time.

Don't bother asking for clarification as they'll state one thing and just change their minds somewhere down the line anyway.

Since "bundle" can refer to any sale where multiple products are offered within one lump purchase, SG has a more precise definition of a "discount bundle", which, as noted by others, is any bundle at 95% discount. As it wouldn't make sense to limit that to exclude single purchases, you've got the current system of "anything below 95%".
Previous Monthlies have typically hovered in the high 80s- a discount of 86 to 88% was the most common range, if I recall correctly- and I believe the highest discount before now was 92% off. While this bundle was enough to break the 95% discount threshold, it was also the first monthly to do such. As such, yes, future monthlies may also be bundle-listed, but no, it'll likely still be a very rare occurrence.
Put another way: game pricing across the industry hasn't changed any, so the underlying pool that Monthlies pull from hasn't changed. As such, as before, most bundles are still presumably going to be composed primarily of $15-20 games, and thus it'll continue to be unlikely (though, as proven, still possible) to have bundles with four high-retail games, like this one.
If you see another monthly that previews two high retail games, like this one did, you can lean toward assuming it'll nudge that barrier. Otherwise, it'll be the same as always- and with one bundle-listed bundle out of the 20-odd monthlies that've been released so far, that means that most monthlies across any year are likely to continue to be "safe" in that regard.

Yes you are right it probably wont happen often. My own confusion with it is I thought the mark for entry to the bundle list was lower than 95%.

Well they for SURE are added to the list already because NBA and Pillars TOGETHER moved me a mighty 1/100 of 1% (.01) towards the next level

Now technically I thought if something was listed well before, it shouldn't be retroactive. When I listed them both, they were the only things in the monthly, so they were far above the 95%
Seems kind of bogus, but at least I had two whitelisted winners, so there is that.

Dafuq? It's not retroactive, because there aren't two monthlies... The cost is for the whole bundle, not just the early unlocks. Very strange reasoning.

The whole bundle got added to the list with the date the bundle came into sale. In that sense, it's retroactive to the day the bundle went on sale like every other bundle.

support can't warn people about bundling status for monthly HB...

that makes sense ofcourse - me I always thought the discount % for entry to the bundle list was lower than 95% and that the monthly was some sort of exception. I have never seen the % needed mentioned officialy... (to my knowledge... which is probably lacking again:)

do we have a bundle tread that shows changelog, with recently added games by bundle?

what i meant was that there's no way to know which games are in a HB monthly till they are released. :P
so unless people buy them from traders or "resellers" they won't know they are bundled or not.

http://www.sgtools.info/lastbundled will give you the last 50, otherwise you can check "date added" details at https://www.steamgifts.com/bundle-games
