Valve gets nothing for free keys. Wouldn't be half surprised if that is the problem.

maybe but they are still right about it messing with the numbers, if devs keeps giving away games for votes, then the numbers show that people want shitty junk indy games on steam and then everyone wonders why the game doesn't sell when its actually greenlit.
