Hi there,

I am currently in the shop waiting for an inspection to finish and I suspect transmission trouble with the gears or internal clutch. It sucks as I am only slightly better than a granny driver. I brake lightly, I keep between -2mph to +5mph (usually about +3). I am definitely more giving than taking when it comes to traffic, and I am super considerate of the drivers around me so this potential costly repair has me down because I feel it shouldn't be a thing. Not for a 2012 Mazda 3. I also believe it is just out of warranty.

It had me thinking though, for a person like me that likely won't use my insurance a lot as I doubt I will cause an accident, I would like a reason to keep the insurance, like for general car maintenance assistance when wear and tear or faults happen. I am just curious what you all think. Of course, I am all for this since I am hurting right now, but I would like other opinions on why it is or isn't a good idea, that way I can try to form a clearer and more grounded opinion (like when you think you are right in an argument, think, then realize you were wrong).

Should your auto-insurance (more specifically Full Coverage) help with car repair?

In many statess (If you are in the US) it is the law to have coverage. And even if it wasn't, wouldn't you rather be safe then sorry?

In my older sisters case, the only accident she was in was where she was at a red light with another car in front of her. A drunk driver was speeding and hit her, causing her to hit the car in front of her. She still had to pay for the car in front of her.

My younger sister was also hit by a speeding driver around a curve, and my father had a sign post fall on his car as he was in the store.

Basically, anything can happen, no matter how safe you are.

in the US it's legally required in all states.

but yeah, the point of insurance isn't because of risky behaviour (which causes rates to go up), but because of unforeseen circumstances.
Hell, what if the other person who hits you doesn't have insurance and can't afford the repairs?

Ah maybe. To be honest, I don't drive (or have a license, by choice), but know what the laws in various states are. Didn't want to say all unless it was all.

Yeah, I think I worded my thing a tad wrong. I meant more like "I want to feel like it is worth it more" than just money dissapearing into the void. I hope I don't get into an accident but I know it is almost unavoidable. A friends car was smashed up while it was parked and he at work. Annoying. No matter how well you take care of something, someone will always be there to f it up :(

On a trip to the US my friend was in reverse as we were about to leave a parking lot , and a chinese couple got in our way .

We had insurance and they did not.
They called the police and wanted a report , it was really a small dent on both cars, almost no one noticed .
They had no insurance.

Now , for us , it was really easy , when returning the car (note, we were tourist) just told the guy that we had a small issue with another car.
For them , it was a pain.

Anything can happen , even small stupid stuff like this. Insurance will save you , even when sometimes seems as a big burden.
