Dont think copying the code would matter becasue I think they deactivate the unused keys. Message said you should activate before bla bla if Im remembering correctly.

Now I wonder if the keys were actually revoked from those who revealed and copied the key elsewhere, but didn't redeem it.
Humble's language indicated that it would be, but I am skeptical.

It's possible technically, but requires extra effort of tracking unused keys and disabling them - I really doubt that HB wanted to ensure that those keys will be invalidated, it's much easier to just handle it on your own site, without asking Valve for keys revoke.

That means that Humble's language was intentionally deceptive, and a lot of folks got fooled.

I don't think it was, they said the key will banish, and it did. Nothing was said on the key being revoked...
But considering they must have an agreement with the dev and the dev can choose to revoke unredeemed keys from a particular batch, it wouldn't be a hard thing to do to revoke the unused ones once the time passed and the keys were hidden.

So, does that mean that maybe the key expired? Same difference. Revoked or expired, the point is, there was a lack of clarity as to whether you had to actually redeem the key on Steam by the specified date, or whether you could just reveal and copy it elsewhere and give it to someone much later. We still haven't gotten any confirmation on that yet.
I argued that in the past, when Humble says "disappear", they only mean from your Humble account, but that if you recorded the key somewhere, you could still use it after that date. Other people said nope, redeem it on Steam or it gets revoked/expires/whatever.

The Humble keys are generated on-the-fly when you click the option in your Humble Account against a valid purchase/bundle/gift etc.
What probably happened is they disable the key-gen for the Tropico 4 offer. I can certainly see the key in my account still and Humble has no way to know if I've redeemed it or not until I do (because the accounts are linked).

Unredeemed keys have been withdrawn as usual. Claimed keys if unused still work and have not been revoked. FOR NOW.

Keys are issued by Valve, at publisher request - keygens don't exist. There is system for that for sure, but I doubt 3rd parties (like humble) are granted access to it.
You have revealed your key, so there is no point in hidinig it. But at the same time that key may be already revoked. Valve knows exactly which key is used and can revoke all unused ones. All that publisher has to do is ask

Because it's possible, and definitely a way, but keep in mind that key revoke option is mainly used for abuses and exploits, and usually they're all being revoked, regardless if used or not. Asking Valve to specifically invalidate only unused keys from the whole list is difficult, and implementing a system that checks that as well, that's why I said that it's not impossible to do so, but rather very rare, so keys should still be valid (and according to people above, they are).

Valve definitively has a system for revoking keys that doesn't affect already used one. Remember the recent issue where a game (sorry, I can't remember which game it was) was removed from a Bundlestars bundle and all unused keys where disabled, but already used ones weren't revoked, and it was done very fast.
I'd say the reason the keys have a time limit is so that people can't stockpile them to resell them.

ShakeDown Racing and Star Ruler 2 have recently invalidated only unused keys in what seems to be a somewhat new method for disabling Steam keys.
Valve's new tool simply turns all keys to 'used' status; Trying to use any key from that batch then shows the 'duplicate key' error, whether it was ever activated or not.
I don't know if Tropico 4 has or will be voided like this, but seems likely.

Humble can just deactivate all the keys, that would void the unused ones, but not revoke the redeemed ones from people's accounts.

It happens.
I got one, only to find out I already owned the game (had no idea). Was going to make a giveaway until I realized that's a bannable offense. So, oh well.

D'oh. Me too.
(but it was only for the one of the children's accounts)
