It happens. Always check the profile of the giver to see if they've actually given something before entering. There are exceptions to the rule, but if someone's giving away Rome: Total War II or something else that's expensive/new, check to see if they've given something in the past; they might not know how the site works.

This happened to me to, the guy thought that it was sort of a free raffle type thing and so he couldn't give me the game as he didn't have it. Its surprising how many times I've read about this story on the forums as well alas I guess it happens.

Another useful thing I tend to look for is anything written in the description. If there's nothing there, it's a big game, and the gifter hasn't (successfully) given anything, I tend to be rather skeptical

You're lucky, mine was an actual key, it was just region restricted >_>

Yeah, you can add the giveaway creator a day or two before the deadline, to remind him in case he just forgot about it.

so if I add someone and then remove someone else, steam blocks me from the contact I added?

well, it was a cheap game, I think it was in a bundle once: Death To Spies, so I didn't even check the proofile as fakees usually give out more expensive stuff.

It could be that he removed you because you added him. Don't do that guys, wait for a guy to add you or send you an email.

I was wondering if you can tell us who is that guy so we can report it to the moderator or something like that? Its sucks.

Unfortunately you can't, if you call people out on steam gifts you will get suspended pretty sure.

heh, yeah in fact someone called someone out once on a giveaway I was looking at which saved me from joining it, not that I would've won but it did help me but that person got suspended pretty sure. Guess they have their reasons in this as well, and it helps lower arguments I guess and stuff like that.

Yay! The creator even blocked me on steam when I added him to "remember" him of the GA I won. Waiting 1 week to mark as not received.
