No SSD? I'd suggest you get a small sized SSD in which you put Windows OS. It'll greatly help the performance. Samsung or Kingston SSD are amazing.
My MacBook Pro comes with a SSD and it's crazy blazing fast at almost 1200 MB/s read and write. :D

I did think about it, but it's another charge I can't necessarily afford.

I might be able to. Unfortunately stuff in Australia is just expensive in general. I could add a decent one on for about 60 bucks though. so It's a possibility. I'll just have to save a little more to get it.

Yeah that SSD is so nice! Having the OS boot up in seconds is great.

Also check this video out if you haven't already. The prices may have gone up but it's a nice round up! :)

I have an old PC now. The proc is an old quad core (not even a i5 or i7) and I only have 6Gb of RAM. My GPU is a gtx 560ti and I have an SSD.
Overall, it runs everything that the GPU can run so I'll only have problems with the Witcher games at high specs, Shadows of Mordor, ARMA III and other heavy games.
What I'm saying is that what you need is a good GPU, some RAM (8Gb can be enough). The CPU is not that important.
Ideally, you should be able to test a config before you buy it. Unfortunately, it's not always possible.
What I can tell you from experience is that unless my old quad core crashes, I don't plan to buy a new CPU/motherboard/RAM. But I plan to upgrade to a gtx 970.

SSD are pretty good, low noise is huge plus I have found but if trying to keep costs down isn't needed

+1 if trying to make a budget rig 8gb is good enough & can update later

I did have one with 2X4gb also. Same build just different ram. The AMD/intel and radeon/nvidia thing has gone back and forth with so many people at this point based on preference it seems. You are the first to say anything about the vram. The big thing for me was that the amd was cheaper and I could get an 8 core for the same price.
I had also done this build, http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/2BVZ6h

Again, could have the 8 gig, that's not a problem. That's just what I had in it. Also another 50 for the case as the one on there isn't available so no price on it. And ignore the wireless. I realized I can go with PLA instead and have a better connection since I can't hardwire.

I did actually. Thought about building one out of a night stand too lol

Makes sense. Unfortunately, with an i5 and any 4gb vram my price skyrockets. It might be worth saving a bit more for it though. Was just hoping to do this sooner than later.

Yeah I know for a budget rig amd is a good cpu, it's just that by adding a bit of cash you can have nearly double the perfomance. Take a look at this chart https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
Even i3s tend to be faster than amds in games.

I just did this one up. Might be able to knock off 70 by using the hdd out of my laptop as well. SSD I'd like, but don't need so might save some more there.

The 950 would only change it 10 bucks so I could deal with that. Everyone I've talked to has said to go with the 80+ gold just because it'll last longer

the question is what do you plan on using the computer for?
I'd go for a WD over Seagate
Comment has been collapsed.
It'd be mostly gaming, with newer titles as well. The WD is only a dollar difference so that would be no big deal. Ideally I could just transfer my laptops HDD into it though. Not sure if I could though.

It's not an original one because that one broke (surprise) so hopefully it wouldn't be too bad. It's a 1 tb Toshiba so I think it'll be okay. Still a decent chance it'll go wrong though being a laptop one.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't know with the failure rate of Toshiba 2.5" but 2.5" isn't normally as good as 3.5" and they are slower than 3.5" but should be usable in your PC it will do the job but then you wont have a laptop :( the reason I say WD > Seagate is that i know a lot of people that have problems with them & have only heard of a few people with faulty WD I have a few WD drives which haven't died yet & up to 7 years old just had the power adapter die on me ages ago within a few months of use which was a known fault or something with that series. Anyway Seagate maybe the leader is adventure racing but not as far as drives go

I assume that are AU$, else look up some more prices or recommendations like http://www.logicalincrements.com
Also I would halve the RAM and get for that money a better card than the 270...
Comment has been collapsed.
I would suggest ditching the 8 core CPU and getting a Quad core instead, while investing the difference in a better GPU. The 8 cores will be useless if they're bottle-necked by the 270x. Always choose a CPU that works as well as the GPU. You won't need this one unless you need all that horsepower, which I doubt, since you'll just be gaming and browsing the web.
And if you think that GPU is enough, invest that difference in an SSD.

You paired FX8350 with to weak mobo
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 - can only by paired with FX6350 on FX 8350 VRM on mobo can overheat and CPU will drop clock to minimal values or even cause PC reboot
Alternative more FPS in Games:
CPU can be oc to around 4.5 - 4.7 GHz adding + 100 and you will get i5 6400 @ 4.5- 4-7 Ghz

Hey all,
I'm planning to build a new computer soon. I can't really play right now because of how crap the laptop I have is, and it's my only computer at the moment unfortunately. Anyway, I'm just looking for some build suggestions/improvements on the one I have already.
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/cWvswP
Any help is appreciated.
