I've seen some users writing about it. Also, I do have some keys I wish to giveaway via lottery. Ungivable gifts and keys are mostly the games that have been givenaway for free or it's no longer on Steam store. What if we introduce these games back, BUT! for 0P and no CV given. Just only to giveaway what's left in your equipment to keep it safe from oblivion.

In a key drop? I wish I could do this via lottery.

You can make a thread and have people post interest in it, then draw a name through a random generating website like Random.org

+1 (and another +1 for the random.org reference!)

I support the idea, just be sure to post the new link of the thread here in case you decide to do it so.
A lottery giving away lots of keys and with multiple winners would be great, IMHO n.n

Although I cannot read your mind, my guess would be that you would prefer that just because the GA's are more fun. I agree. That being said, my guess would be that there would be an influx of these giveaways as there are copious amounts of these gifts and keys in circulation. That could create an undesirable effect on the SG servers. It would likely also create an adverse effect for users as it could greatly increase the process of sifting through GAs looking for ones that they find appealing. In short, I think it would not be worth it though I completely understand the desire for this as an option.

It would probably take too much server performance to reintroduce these kind of things.
Plus every game that has been bundled would need to be manually be changed to 0P and thats not how the system works right now afaik - it takes the prices directly from the steam store and converts them to points etc

Correct, the "points" for a game are pulled off the steam API and are the base price of the game.

There are games where the point value is overriden already, so it'd be just the question of somebody doing it for all these games. And that sounds like the larger issue.

What games does this happen for and where's that been stated? Everything I've ever seen posted or said by support or cg is that everything is based on Steam API and Steam API only.

There was a thread about this exact same thing a week or so ago. I read it there. Considering the search isn't really good within the posts themselves, I cannot find it. :/

Every time a free game is given away, the GA list would be absolutely flooded with them.

It's just easier on everyone (and the server) if you just drop them in a free keys thread or give them to random people.

EDIT: Also, completely removing them from the GA list keeps people from posting 10,000 topics complaining about why they got 0 CV for their GA, and spares everyone else the repeated attempts to explain it to them. -_-

I think that they first removed just because it was hurting the site's performance, plus the fact that has already been said, everyone would be making GAs for them

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not if they get absolutely nothing out of it. People would just do anything for free CV at level 0 to get access to the abundance of level 1/2 GAs.

What you are doing here is called begging and it's an offense to the rules which can result in a suspension if a mod/admin/supporter sees this. You better edit your post.

http://www.steamgifts.com/about/guidelines

Do not ask users or developers for keys or gifts, whether in comments, chat, or outside the site.

That was a joke (and I thought I was very clear about that with all the noises and emoticons...), applied to the "no ninjas" topic always present on Steam. Didn't thought anyone would take it for real, neither did the OP. Anyways, there you go...

Mmmmhhh...reviewing the rule you post, BTW, I find something "particular" to point out:

"Do not ask users or developers for keys or gifts (...) or outside the site."

Does now SG have priority to rule over Steam, Facebook, Twitter, or other external platforms also? Just wondering how that last one can be applied (for example, how can you actually proof someone is asking for anything if they don't mention SG...) Ah! And if that's the case, to mention SG, they should check the most populated groups announcements on Steam shouting SG links and giveaways....you will get tons of kiddos asking/begging in the comments or just saying "give it to meeee!" and such ^^u

Don't take it wrongly eeev, greatly appreciated your heads up and warning, my point/question (and related to anyone who may answer it) here is about how that rule actually apply outside SG n.n (just saying eh! My two cents...)

Joke or no joke it's still begging and support has said on numerous occasions that a user can and will be suspended for it.

Also, if it is brought to the attention of SG Support that a user is say messaging you on steam asking for keys and you provide screenshot proof, that said user would be sanctioned by SG Support for violating the ToS of this website. It's not support's job to follow those activity feeds and suspend every single person they see posting, it's just their job to act on the ones who are reported to them.

TL;DR - They can't stop you from begging on Steam but they can stop you from using Steamgifts.com if you're begging on Steam.

But you seem to missed my point. I said "proof" when "they don't mention SG"
Anyways you're correct about applying that rule to members here which are harassing other users on Steam. But keep in mind some particular cases:
Reports can only be valid also if there is enough valid proof...let me show you a couple of examples....screenshots are not very reliable, in fact they are declined lately by many platforms, MMOs, sites, etc, as since it's actually very easy for a semi-pro image/design user to edit and fake them (and believe me, I have seen this kind of "proof" when I was a GM on a MMO...you would think you will notice the edition, even on 1920x1200 SSs...thanks God we had the chat logs for corroborating that n.n) Also, it would be extremely easy to fake an ID of an user and say "Hey, look over there, John Doe from Steam is on Twitter begging me!"...and such John Doe have a Twitter account with other name or doesn't even have an account on Twitter...add it Skype, any type of chat beyond Steam one, etc if you wish to the list
Personally I think that rule is just there as a way to try to want and stop ppl from doing stupid things, but otherwise, it's hard to apply beyond the "walls" of SG...unless there is undeniable proof like a direct comment on another profile with your account, and in a public profile too (conditions which are hard to meet sometimes) Other methods can and are probably faked (I also already saw a lot of "tries" over Steam to ban a user making similar fakes accounts, like if Steam support members are idiots or what...they have all kind of logs at their disposal...or the fake trading bots alleging they are from raffles groups, and scamming "nicely" unaware users) And yes, the point is, SG can don't allow an user to use their site, but with which use unless there is 100% proof? Otherwise the same "hate wars" spread all along Steam with members wanting to ban other members (some so kindly to think they can "VAC report players", hahaha n.n) would occur here, one way or another
And indeed, it's not support's job to go on a manual check about the topic (otherwise they would go nuts with all the traffic and just over Steam), and just attend tickets about complains, but again, if someone is a jerk/troll enough to report anyone on Steam or whatever begging for keys, and not with solid reason or under a serious harassment, I think that user would get blocked instead...just for bothering the mods...otherwise I repeat, half Steam members at least should been already banned from access SG, in case they even have an account here

TL;DR: Didn't wanted to cause "commotion" with these two posts, just wandering how it actually applies, and my best guest it's just as I stated above + what MysticAarrgg said (just in case of 100% undeniable proof, of course)

you may like gameminer then. You can give away "junk" as they call it.

Gameminer is terrible....they even have "luck" items which basically rigs the raffles if you own many of them...and yeah you get them paying with the premium gold, and opening...crates...good rip-off from Valve's system....I can't recommend that site, honestly...

i used to love gameminer, im american so its bad now cuz 90% of stuff is region locked. but before the locks it was one of my fav cuz it was so easy to win. i would win like 10 games every event lol

Old times I guess....now most of the content (which is already scarce indeed) is RU region locked only, AND the addition of "hey, get this paid items to rig your chances on the draw!" even sucked more -.-

That's why SG is always the best site :D

people already grab as many free keys as possible because... it's free. we don't need an incentive so they grab even more (no cv but people would still do it).

even if you tell free-ga creators that they will get 0cv, they will complain... expect a lot of "i didn't get any cv for my 200-copies ga!"... *facepalm*
