In most cases you only need port forwarding to host games. Joining games should be fine with most games.
You could also look into playing through a VPN like hamachi, if all else fails.

if u know your router's name (and your game's name of course) you can easily find a walkthrough on portforward.com ...
i guess you can't use this site because it keeps showing you a page that you need to skip because it's an ads. i was stuck on that page for 4 months :D

There's nothing wrong with Hamachi. It does what it promises and it does it fairly well. It starts becoming a problem when stupid people use it in a way that's essentially giving the computer to a complete stranger and telling them to do whatever they want with it.

You've said that your router is TP-link TLSF1005D. It's not really router, it's switch (wchich are not devices that you forward ports on - they don't filter network traffic like routers do). Depending on how your network is buit, it can be either another device (connected between switch and net gateway or just your Internet provider filtering your traffic.
Also check if games you want to play are not being blocked by your firewall or antivirus software.
EDIT: Also, do you want to host a server or you can't even join olnine games?

With what we know it's hard to tell a reason, but here are a few steps that might help (I'll write especially about Minecraft):

Enter your external IP into your browser, then type in the credentials, which are usually just "admin" in both fields.
After that, check the name of your router software in the UI, and then use portforward.com for guidance. You'll have to set up a static IP before port forwading anything.

There are tons of tutorials for port forwarding, no more than a single google search away.
(If you have any specific problems I'd be glad to help though. Just remember that "It doesn't work!" without any more details isn't enough for anyone to know what the issue is.)

From what I gather, you don't have a router firewall that blocks the ports. I'm assuming you have a cable modem (like Comcast's). If you're using ADSL, then you probably have a router, and need to enable port forwarding in that first. (There's not enough information for me to work on here.)
The only thing I can help you with is to enable the port in Windows Firewall.

Guys I have an update on the situation for anyone who wants to assist me.
I spent about an hour trying to make it work but here's the issue:
He not only has a router but ALSO a switch. Currently the setup is:
Computer -> Router -> Wall Pass-through -> Switch. Also, the Wall Pass-through is NOT a RJ45 port that has been wired in the house - it appears to be a LAN cable that just comes out of the wall and plugs into the router.
Pertinent information:
The switch is located at local ip 192.168.0.197 (I think; I will change if its wrong)
The router is located at local ip 192.168.0.2
His computer is located local ip 192.168.0.97
His router has a setup page that is accessible, but the switch does not respond to connection attempts. Currently my solution brainstorming is:
A) Find switch and remove it from the path if possible. They use the router as a distribution point; the switch appears redundant.
B) Find switch and directly connect his PC if possible. This should allow proper port forwarding if the switch can be accessed once the computer is plugged directly in.
Issues:
The router appears to be a certain distance away; I am unsure but he had to walk away to check it.
The wall passthrough is literally a hole in the wall. I am not sure where the switch is nor how it is routed into the house.
The switch appears to have no setup page.

Hey everyone,
Would someone be able to help me port forward? I would like to play MC, EM, ... with my friends, but its annoying to actually open tunngle everytime.
So can anyone help me with this? Be it with teamviewer, voicechat, ...
PS: say what information you need and where i can find it, and ill look it up.
PS2: Speak clearly with links, screenshots (if possible), ... and don't just say "you need to use PortForwarder".
