I am honestly curious about this. Why do you, personally, gift games here? Are you just a nice person? Do you feel liike giving back to the community?

What motivates you to be so generous?

Because when I climbed off your mum, she turned down my $1 and told me to give games away instead.

The two times Ive given away games it was because I had them in my inventory for a while and nobody wanted them. But i might get a game from a sale to giveaway later this year.

I do gift a game when I don't need it:
If i already got the game in my libary. Instead of its just lying in my Inventory I am just giving it away to people who would like to have it.

My gifting train pulls the "group of folks I game with," "group of folks who are themselves generous with their time and money," and "private puzzle giveaways for folks who would like to expend a modicum of effort to find a low entry giveaway" cars, with the "because I've spent worse money in worse ways" caboose. :)

TIL that modicum means "A small, moderate, or token amount"

Hey look, it's this thread again. We gift because we want to, because we can, and because it gives us a sense of awesome inside.

I gift so that people "owe me one" I imagine one day when I'm facing the zombie apocalypse I'll now have a chance of running into someone with supplies and shelter, I will then say to them "Hey you're the guy who I gave a gift to" this will save my life.

+1 to this. I ever meet some of the regular public/forum givers during the zombocalypse, they're coming with me for sure.

I figured I'll answer why I give games here. The reason is that this site provides a convenient way to do it, with a big crowd of people looking for giveaways. Before I found Steam Gifts I gave away games on my blog or Facebook page, and there were very few participants. Here no matter what I give there will be a lot of entries. Even my worst giveaway (group giveaway of a $1 DLC which I opened for only 4 hours by mistakes) got 6 entries, which is more than I got for some of my old giveaways.
