If anyone happens to see my topic about whitelist for whitelist from a few weeks ago it was just clickbait for a giveaway. Don't hate me :(

Not sure where to post this (and tbh... didnt want to make a thread just to ask) but... I just noticed that he's got 2 GAs running right now.... does that mean that he'll get extra suspension days on top of what hes got for not delivering the games or will those be on a grace period sort of thing and not add up?

oh right, i tried having a quick look in the FAQ but couldn't really see anything about it, thanks!

1 month ban isn't enough, honestly. >_> sighs
why is my beloved SG community filled with these imposters T_T
Comment has been collapsed.
Since you're relatively new, let me shed some light ...
It is a common misnomer that Steamgifts was set up to give games. In reality, it was set up by liars and cheats to scam good people out of their hard-earned cash in the form of games. It's basically a scam and money laundering site all in one. Knowing this, it should not be any surprise that cg is really a minor mob boss, and people like Shobo are his longtime lieutenants.
So in reality, you're kind of the outsider to the true community.
Also, give more games or we're going to break your legs.

i'm not sure if i should cry in reaction to this :/ because i am literally sitting here with tears in my eyes and crying my eyeballs out. Seriously
so i'm sorry if i'm new and don't know -- about anything
i guess i don't know enough to see past the kindness people have shown me
i guess i don't know enough about anything to be part of this community

Don't be scared. You'll remain unharmed so long as you hit your monthly quota.

:/ hm, I guess you are joking then. Sorry if i came off as rude and impudent. I read your comment and thought you were attacking me and i wasn't in the right emotional place to comprehend the joke, if it was a joke. At least i got some tears out of my system :,)

Hahaha! cg as a minor mob boss ... I love it.
I hope you get back to a better emotional place soon. There's too much amazing stuff in the world to stay down. Go see a live band perform and marvel at the talent and passion. Go stare at a unique building and think about the architect that designed the lines and shapes of its structure. Watch a sunset and marvel at how such beautiful mixes of colors can be possible.
Go. Be Happy. This is an order.

Dear, you've been too used to see text with emoticons. Chairmankao style is similar to that of a deadpan comedian. It works great if you can spot it, but it's a bit unusual these days. It can actually be a nice challenge to pass a whole day without using a single emoticon. Not sure I could do it myself ;-)
Comment has been collapsed.
it is hard, isn't it? -resists urge to put emoticon-
but anyways, i realize now he is joking, so everything is okay. Some people have different styles than others.

Well, she thought I had blacklisted her. In digital terms, she thought I had broken up with her. No wonder she was distraught.

not just that :/
i thought you were publicly shaming me for a) not being a "true" member and b) not giving away enough games c) not knowing anything.
i'm a very sensitive person :/ I don't mind if you black list me because that is your personal reason.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, this turned into a pep talk of sorts in no relation to the thread itself. Mostly just a reply to Rachel
Pretty much does show the "problem" with the internet, more recently especially. Over here, there have been increasing numbers of suicides related to 'internet bullying' ...
People don't understand that behind the avatar, behind the screen, away from the internet -- there is a real person. And that person has feelings. Some are "happy-go-lucky" and don't really care what happens, but others take comments with a degree of seriousness and feel hurt just as if they'd been insulted in real life.
Still, it isn't exactly 'simple' to guess emotions, particularly when you can't see the person, and could end up hurting someone without the intention of doing so, which is where I think chairmankao was. They didn't mean to cause offence and were playing around, though the perspective of that would vary by reader. A "true" new person might actually take it seriously, though, even some longer terms still believe g2a is a "legit" website ... That's a different matter for discussion.
Still, Another day, another time, you might have seen the joking side of that Rachel, but today something has you feeling down, and that of course hadn't done anything for your esteem. I don't claim to know why your feeling down, but do wish you the best.
If in doubt, remember the Free Hugs Campaign xP
Oh, and.
I guess I am more emotional than other people and that is a bad thing.
That is NOT a bad thing, and don't let others make you feel it is. Emotions are extremely powerful, and there is neither a "good" nor "bad" emotion either. Each has its purposes and gives either strength or protection, if controlled. Fear, for example, could mean you'll run away from a dangerous situation - how would Cavemen have survived for example if they didn't have the fear to run away from predators? Or the courage to fight back to be able to feed.
Well, you could argue there are "bad" emotions; again with fear as an example, that could lead to you 'not' running, and thus being an easy target. But that stems from not being able to use or control fear.
I'm terrified of needles; come near me with a Needle and I'll pull a scooby-doo style cloud of smoke impression. :P But if I have to use a Needle for any reason, or just be around them for something else, I'll control that fear. Amazingly, considering I once had to hold down a sheep while this 1'5" long needle was used to put it down with an injection to the heart (used to work on a farm) ... Needless to say, I was shaking in me boots. Lol.
Personally, I'd perhaps argue that the worse emotion is love, a great source of strength, but also a weakness that can be taken advantage of, or could lead to other, more powerful emotions in a negative sense. Doesn't mean I wouldn't want to fall in love one day, or haven't ever loved, but its just a point of view.
Comment has been collapsed.
oops sorry >_< I didn't mean to turn this thread into all about me .___. i look like an attention whore now D:
Thank you for your words . I realize now that he was joking around, so I feel a lot better now.
I tend to joke around a lot, but you are right, today i wasn't in the right state of mind and a joke wasn't the best thing to plop down to when other things were going on.
I'm trying to be more patient with myself in regards to emotions. I grew up ignoring them most of the time, partly because in the Asian culture we are taught not to listen to our anger or sadness. But emotions are crucial and a bit part of my life now, and they guide much of what they do (besides logic, which I try to have as much as).
Ironically, love is probably the biggest driving emotion in my life o.O it can be taken advantage of very easily, but I try to make sure i'm not falling victim to someone's mischief!

Ignore that huge wall of text above me. I actually read it, and it made me want to kill myself with all that shit about feelings. That said, I do give him props for somehow weaving in a story about sheep and needles into his narrative.
Anyway, you are mildly insane. You volunteer your time to help mothers and children in need. You are incredible. You friends and family must be proud of you. Shit. I don't even know you and I am proud of you. Time to stop being crazy.

I don't think he/she realized how seriously i took his joke ... thought he was shaming me and trying to get rid of me :/ It's not that I "thought I had blacklisted her"... because feelings run deeper than that. But oh well :/ I guess I am more emotional than other people and that is a bad thing. I was never with him / her to begin with >_>

being emotional is not a bad thing. it's just who you are, and that can't be bad. you know we all love you. maybe chairmankao should start using smileys on the internet, since they indicate things like irony and prevent situations like this.

+1. I've been a long proponent of not letting developer accounts join giveaways. If they want to join giveaways, they should use their personal account to do so.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't think they could. I agree that they should not be allowed to. If thats the case anyone that can release a game on steam can build up CV just spamming their own game.
Comment has been collapsed.
On SGv1, devs were not allowed to, but after tweaking the CV algorithm on v2, the admin decided to relax the rules a bit. Don't forgot the first bullet in the CV explanation
After you give away a game 5 times (whether in the same giveaway, or in multiple giveaways), it will begin decreasing in value. The value is decreased by 10% for each additional copy. This means if you decide to give away 8 copies of a $10 game, it would add $74.39 (10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 + 8.10 + 7.29) in value towards your level. This has little effect on the majority of users, but prevents individuals from receiving a high level from gifting a large number of promotional gifts, games obtained through pricing errors, or keys from contacting game developers.
Comment has been collapsed.
There is one developer I know of at level 5 from mass giveaways. The account isn't used to enter giveaways, but on a throwaway game its cost them nothing to obtain that level.
I'm not arguing with you here, please don't misunderstand.
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, sure it didn't cost them anything to generate those keys, but they might have lost future sales by giving away copies for free.
Comment has been collapsed.
Its one of those games that goes on sale for .20 USD. I'm sure they already made their money off it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Considering that the majority of users on this site do not give even a single penny..I think it's still generous.
Comment has been collapsed.
I get what you are aiming for but statistics are facts if the data behind them is true. The way you use or interpret them is the question.
Comment has been collapsed.
Going on the side of semantics but as long as the data is true and the methods used to that data produce no error, the result is is also true (i.e. fact). For example, when a series of numbers is known, one can calculate their mean and that is known precisely (i.e. fact).
But you are correct in that many common uses of statistics involve limited and/or corrupted samples, unknown variables, errors and such.
Comment has been collapsed.
The active user base that actually visits the site is probably in the 10-50k range somewhere if those Fallout 4 open level 0 giveaways are any indicators. Although only someone access to the admin site or a stat tracker could give a better and more precise estimation.
Comment has been collapsed.
It has sense for people (1human, personal use) who got 5, 10, 50, 100 copies from a developer for whatever reason (in most cases begging variations, but maybe also work related). But companies wining games here???? NO SENSE . What they want them for? As an account to let their employees play games to lose stress??? Leisure time??? Can be understood, but as a service provided by the company should be paid and not taken from real people!!!!
Edit new plot twist, if CG wants those accounts able to join "because reasons", he can make them with CV/levels disabled.
And I'm also not arguing with Jatan, if it wasn't clear.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed, but that was the explanation given to me by cg when sgv2 was in beta
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't really think that there are many companies with developer status here– if any. Don't forget that these kinds of promotions work (and sometimes needed) for 1-3 person developer studios.
I mean I have a developer studio's account on my friend list but it is obvious it is used by a real person, he even plays on it semi-regularly, and not just the games associated with his publishing firm.
Comment has been collapsed.
Then he probably uses as company his personal account.
But it doesn't change anything. Creating accounts on steam is free. If you're going to have an account on SG -associated to one on steam- with benefits and advantages compared to a regular user, should do it by separate on a different account or refrain to join giveaways, else is disrespectful for the entire community. And this was on guidelines, maybe not now, I haven't checked.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey guys, let me clear up a few things here. First off, I closed the whitelist 4 whitelist discussion, because users shouldn't create discussions asking users to whitelist them, that's similar to a user creating a discussion asking for games.
Secondly, users are wondering why this person was suspended, then shortly after unsuspended, and questioned if the developer tag placed them above the rules. That's not the case. They were suspended by a moderator for not activating their won games. The user requested access to the keys so they could be activated, and the moderator temporarily unsuspended them so the keys could be viewed. It appears they activated some, and I applied a suspension for the remaining games that are not activated at this time.

Thank you for the explanation. Sometimes it seems like no one is listening. I'm glad you are tuned in and care.

There have been threads like this before and they have been ignored. So much for it being equal to begging.
But thanks for explaining the rest of it tho.

I think that all issues with other users should be made through support tickets. I don't think that there's a dedicated forum mod, and it just stirs up people.

Sounds like he needs a long suspension for begging too.

Wait until cg's not looking, then add to the suspension. Sure, I will probably report you, and cg will probably remove you from your prestigious position, but you'll become a mythical cult figure in Steamgifts lore ... a legend never to be forgotten until the end of days.

Ah, of course. That makes sense. The suspension and then being unsuspended is what confused me. Thanks for the explanation CG!

Ive been expecting you
Actually, there have been multiple threads like that.
Mostly my problems rely on how someone só oblivious to the site rules got that tag. Well that and seeing is suspension go from 2months to nothing to days...weeks.
Anyway i guess i should apolagize, this being my thread and all. But i needed to blow off some steam. As i had never been happy to seeing these people get a spotlight on the site.
a member being suspended for showing proof didnt help, in fact the calling out rule seems to change from case to case
Comment has been collapsed.
I think i might be able to explain the 'Well that and seeing is suspension go from 2months to nothing to days...weeks.'.
So as you know he was suspended, then unsuspended to see the keys and activate them, which was the 'nothing' you referred too, and then when giving the suspensions, I believe, since ive seen this many other times, that when handling a 'big time suspension' it slowly builds up, so lets say that from the nothing, he was suspended 1 month, it would appear on his profile 1 day, and slowly going up, its either that or you can build it up, like user > suspension that gave him 3 days > suspended profile quoting 3 days suspended > adding more 3 days for another unredeemed game > appearing 6 days > more 2 for spamming > appearing 1 week and so on
I dont know if i made myself clear, rip

It's probably in the same vein as spam-what if everyone made threads asking to be whitelisted?

Could you give a reasonable answer to that chain, thanks in advance.

thank you for the explanation, cg.
I appreciate the work you do to keep the community in line and SG running. This community means so much to me, as I'm sure is a common feeling amongst others.
Comment has been collapsed.
Geez, now I am glad I was joking in the other thread. I never believed in Whitelist for Whitelist, I prefer to whitelist for reasons of my own choosing, not just because I was asked to. Didn't see their track record!
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh wow I didn't know whitelist 4 whitelist was bannable 0.0
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not bannable or suspendable since, until this happened, you could not have known if cg would have a problem with it, and there's no sign of this getting included in the rules of the site.
It couldn't possibly be fair to suspend anyone for doing the same thing because it would be crazy to expect that everyone on this site will have seen a topic that was opened and closed in a matter of hours and would know of the new "rule" and the same goes for simply expecting people to interpret the "begging rule" to include this type of behavior.
In my opinion opening that thread was in very poor taste, but I'm guessing that the closing of that thread had far less to do with the exchange of whitelisting and far more with the heated conversation that was going on there, and the OP's suspension was for other reasons.
cg:
suspended by a moderator for not activating their won games
Comment has been collapsed.
Could be counted as begging or simply clugging the forums. It becomes tedious if everyone creates their own white for white thread. Anyone can mark anyone on either list, there is no need to create a thread for it. Which is a bit funny as I have my own thread open slightly related to the idea.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is also true though in trading it usually consists of actual exchange being done (my stuff for your stuff). In this case, whitelist entry does not guarentee anything as person might never do one. But at least there are some reasons against such activity.
Comment has been collapsed.
This thread is another example why public calling has been ruled out. People have little information and act hastily and usually in aggressive manner. Way too often it results in pointless dispute that grows larger then needed to. Even if it is for "the right cause" from time to time. A better way is to make a ticket and let the support take care of it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have a ticket from like a month ago and I still haven't got a reply yet. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.
But I'm curious, what did the OP do wrong exactly?
Comment has been collapsed.
The limits of support activity are known. Unfortunately that is the state of things and in which I hope there would be an improvement. I would not call these desparate times. Single member had unactivated gifts. Displeasing, certainly, but not that rare. I support the idea that the members voice their opinion. There are many ways to do so, however.
I am not pointing that OP him/herself did anything wrong. Merely how people in general acted in this thread. We had a group of people rattling their pitchforks merely because they lacked understanding of the situation. Such activity is the reason why public calling is forbidden. So in short, similar activity even if their targets and usage differ to a degree.

Today i learned an important lesson
After seeing a so called developer, being forgiven of breaking multiple rules.
Still has the honor of parading with his developer tag around, even though he has proven to misuse it, misleading people with it.
Still has the honor of having is whitelist 4 whitelist thread open
encouraging spamming, not activating gifts, not delivering multiple gifts...forgiven
While the normal user, that contributes to this site without asking anything in return gets banned for the dumbest shit.
Thats how low our status is around here
Welcome to Steamgifts
