Today i learned an important lesson
After seeing a so called developer, being forgiven of breaking multiple rules.
Still has the honor of parading with his developer tag around, even though he has proven to misuse it, misleading people with it.
Still has the honor of having is whitelist 4 whitelist thread open

encouraging spamming, not activating gifts, not delivering multiple gifts...forgiven
While the normal user, that contributes to this site without asking anything in return gets banned for the dumbest shit.
Thats how low our status is around here

Welcome to Steamgifts

sad thing is that you are right. Back in SGv1 I had a situation where guy straight up lied in my topic about why he gets BlackListed by me - comes to my puzzle topic raging and flaming how OP is a f*ggot and he blacklists ppl he disagree with on forums, while in reality guy got BLed by me for serial rulebreaking (leaking puzzle info, non activating won games). I write it in reply to his comment and he goes all rage how I am not allowed to publicly call him out on these things. Even better - support (well now ex-support) shows up and advise me to edit my post as it's considered calling out.

Also, it's weird to see you posting without using gifs :P

well the thing is we were not directly calling him out (well, we were mostly, I believe my 1st post to Pirate guy have been straight calling out, prolly missed the bullet by not being reported ;p). Posting pirates-related jokes and comments was no calling out, more like an inside joke - you had to know he didn't activate Sid Meiers: Pirates to get irt in the first place, comments aone were not directly saying "hey, XYZ didn't activate his Sid Meier: Pirates game!!!". In this case squirrel directly calls guy out and is not so lucky as either got reported or just because thread was so popular support saw his calling out themselves.

Objectively speaking, it was against the rules. It was a double edged sword what he did and I respect him for it. The real issue here is why the guy's 2 month ban was lifted when he still had multiple unactivated wins.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

petition to lift ban by activating games, anyone can do it. he probably had more unactivated wins that he could activate now, or some other offense we don't know so he was banned again.

really, this thread is the living proof of a witch hunt and mob mentality. even if the guy did wrong before, this thread is ridiculous.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know, that's why I was wondering about the lifted bans cause I see his non-activated stuff has been reduced but still enough to warrant SOME bans. If it was cleared, I would have thought nothing about his cleared suspensions. The BLs he would have earned from then on would be personal preference maybe about his shady excuse but rule wise he would be cleared.

Your comparison makes absolutely no sense. If you really know how Hitler took over Germany then you would know it's a perfect example that people are like sheep that will let almost anything happen without doing something about it as long as it doesn't affect them directly. It's also an example how democracy can fail, but in a totally different way than what you try to establish here. Before you use an extreme example to make a point know your facts properly.

If there was a poll, most of people would vote in favor of this guy because he was giving away games.
Like you said:

if it's 1st time you get caught on non-activating you would not get poermabanned, no matter the number of non-activated games. Permaban is only for hardest offences (like scamming, multiaccounts or feedback fraud) or for repeated rulebreaking. if you got caught 2nd or 3rd time still doing the same - only then you'd get permban for non-activation I believe.

Since when?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hate to say it but, onk my frog friend, I tend to agree with you here.

In the last few months, ever since the latest batch of support was added, it seems that we have varying support trends. Sometimes, one thing seems to be ok with one support member but not ok with the other. I'm too lazy to get the threads and comments to link to them, but I can if I need to. Even quite recently I seem to recall a support member saying that there are increasing penalties for multiple bans, so if someone gets banned for Re-Gifting then Not Activating and then for say Fake Giveaways - they don't just serve the few days, they get punished harder.

I also remember, as others have stated above these posts, that if you provide proof and evidence that someone is what you say they are - it's not calling out. I remember something like You can't call out a bear for wearing fur, being said by a support member in regards to this.

I really do find the silence amusing and it's making me want to just make a group and throw key fodder away into a random name generator for those who are interested.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was in this thread by wbarton (multiple posts, it starts very quickly), in regards to a scammer, but if it's not calling out with evidence in that situation I cannot see it being different in any other calling out situation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Correct, and if you read the comments above it you see him make comments that contradict that, basically that it's not calling out because it's cg's name. I understand the comment made at the end to wrap everything up and make it appear like that's the cause, but that was a reply after a lot of other things were said.

I guess basically to me I took that thread's replies as being - Well it's ok for him to call out because he used cg's name and everyone just knows that's a scammer so it's not calling out. That to me is a double standard. I know I am not the only person who read it as that or saw it as that either.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I said that just linking someone's profile can't be calling out.

Calling out is making public accusations against others.

If you go around publicly posting about how this or that person did this or that, you will get suspended. You tell us about it so we can deal with it and you leave the mob out of it.

It doesn't matter if you're correct or not, accusing people publicly will get you suspended even if you have video footage of them doing it on national television, sworn statements from the leaders of three major religions, and a certified record of their crimes from an international judicial coalition.

I get so tired of telling people that just because they're right doesn't make it not calling out. It's not that hard to understand.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As you can see in that thread, wbarton is talking about "reasonable doubt" when it comes to the calling out rule. When an impersonator is impersonating someone, there's little to none "reasonable doubt" about what is going on, which is what his statement was all about.

Hey people, here is an idea....

sgtools.tk has issues sometimes. Have any of you considered that when the person was reported and 1 support staff member seen the unactivated games, the person was suspended, but another support staff went and looked but didn't see any unactivated games (because sgtools.tk was acting up) so then they unsuspended them.

I went and checked ones that I seen were still not activated on the persons steam account and they were still missing, so its a possibility that sgtools messed up at that time.

Edit
Also not sure why the person hasn't been suspended again yet, but we might not be seeing everything thats going on.

Second edit - It seems that as of this edit 10:11pm AST the person is banned for at least a month.
