I was thinking the same. I like to... savour the really good games, take my time and make them last.
Whatever floats your boat, of course.
Comment has been collapsed.
The way I see it, I didn't want to stop playing. That really rarely happens with games in the last couple of years.
I have a 150+ game Backlog for my Xbox and well over 200+ games for PC. Most of which I started and got bored of, or don't even have the want to start them. But Bioshock Infinite? Wow, easily the best game I've played in ages.
Comment has been collapsed.
Did you take the time to see all the AI options that Elizabeth and people could do as shown in that onw ign video (can't remember which one so no link, sorry)or did you just speed through it? To finish a game in one day is kind of crazy (although a game should never be rated by its length, so i don't have a problem with a short game. Just sayin')
Edit: Nevermind, say your comment below to ibanez543. Seems like you enjoyed it thoroughly :) Glad to hear it's good just picked up my copy for xbox.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not entirely sure which video you mean so I don't know what exactly you're referring to. There are a few points throughout the game where you make choices. I don't know whether those choices were significant, until I play through the game again and make different choices and see if anything changes.
As you progress through the story, there are many recurring themes which pop up in some of your choices. I personally don't think the choice you make will have much effect on the game from what I saw, but I could be wrong.
The ending also pulls it all together really nicely and explains everything well and it really makes you think. I think, after seeing the ending, it's worth at least another playthrough just to go through the story again with the knowledge that the ending gives you.
Comment has been collapsed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the choices you make will affect what ending you'll get, just like the previous Bioshock series.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, once you see the ending I find it fairly difficult to believe there are different endings. Honestly, having looked back over some preview stuff and some videos I think they are misguiding in the effect choices/Elizabeth have on your game.
A lot of them speak of how the 'tears' she can open can really change the course of your game, but they don't really seem to at all. Some of them allow access to otherwise inaccessible areas, but that's more for collectibles and not for altering the story with such choices.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, and it isn't like it matters as to which tears you open, since you can just open another immediately after, then open up the old one a few minutes later.
Parts of the game disappointed me, especially the length, but it was still a great game nonetheless.
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly, I hadn't watched/read much preview stuff so I didn't see how that was depicted. I think if I were to pick one thing to improve it'd certainly be that.
Just making the choices more permanent/matter more would've been good. I did like as the story progressed there were references back to choices you made. However, it wasn't because of the specific choice you made, but rather of the choice as a whole and both sides of it. There's a lot of symbolism like that, but it doesn't actually impact on the story.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's great, what matters is that you had a great time playing it and are happy with the way you spent your money. I'm just saying I have a different approach, the "I don't want it to be over" factor beats the "I don't want to stop playing" one. Not trying to say I'm right here, just stating a difference.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I totally agree. It's just such a start difference to a lot of recently released games for me. The last one I completed before this was Hitman: Absolution. Before that, I can't even remember what game I last played to completion because none of them got me 'hooked'.
I wish I could do as you do and take my time and go back to games, I have so many unfinished ones :(
Comment has been collapsed.
I know what you mean. I have Hitman: Absolution but I haven't started yet. The last games who really got me hooked were Sleeping Dogs and Resonance. Also spent quite a few hours with FTL, but that's a different beast. Anyway, try to go back to games sometimes, it might be worth it! :)
Comment has been collapsed.
My total play time is 10 hours. Which in this day and age is decent for a single player campaign. I collected 70 of the 80 Voxophones and did 30 of the 37(38?) Telescope/Kinetoscopes. I played it fairly fast, but I was thorough!
Comment has been collapsed.
I absolute looove BI. I think I basically just walked around the first hour of playing, gasping at how amazing everything looks and how well stuff is done. They did a great job on this one. Haven't played a genuine great game like this in a looong time.
I've been stuck at the ending for a few hours now though, I just can't seem to do it. >.<
Comment has been collapsed.
I found the ending absolutely awesome. It answers a lot of questions, unlike a lot of games these days, after the ending I felt like everything in the story fits together well and is just excellently done.
Comment has been collapsed.
I pre-loaded mine as soon as I could. Took me two nights to download with my English countryside internet speeds, well worth it though!
Comment has been collapsed.
Congrats, you lucky bastard. Next up: 1999 Mode! >:D
Comment has been collapsed.
1999 Mode is the hardest difficulty in the whole game. Essentially, it makes the game as hard as a typical shooter from the '90s, with very limited ammo, and massive swarms of enemies.
Comment has been collapsed.
In this day and age, a 10 hour single player campaign is good. It's sad, I agree, but this is the age of CoD where we get a 4 hour campaign.
Comment has been collapsed.
If the consumer stopped falling for the over hyped release of the same game over and over again the devs and publishers would be forced to stop the madness... However, it seems too many gamers have disposable income and little patients to wait a year for the price to drop (or in some cases a day, like Hitman Absolution)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, my pre-order was off Steam. I had no issues with it at all.
I ran the game on Ultra settings for everything and I have an i5 3570k and an HD 6870 (Needs upgrading!). The only issues I had were in the later stages of the game where I'd have multiple fires, enemies and stormy weather with lighting all at once and it slowed down a little. Turned a couple of settings down from Ultra to Very High and it ran smooth again.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm honestly surprised it played so well as it did on my 6870. I didn't expect it to be so smooth on ultra for me and was pleasantly surprised. Going to upgrade to a 680 soon though!
Comment has been collapsed.
My issues were specific to Steam not the game - Steam didn't want to start (stuck downloading updates), the Steam client crashed, the Steam client threw errors when trying to start the game, etc. The game itself runs almost flawlessly - the real issue is the recent crap performance from Steam...
Comment has been collapsed.
Well that's a shame, I've not had any of that so I couldn't really comment. I hope when you do get to play you enjoy it though! :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Nice, I'm still waiting it on sale to buy, cannot afford full price... so sad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Definitely worth the full price for anyone that can afford it in my opinion. It's rare these days I play a game and feel happy spending full retail price on it, but with this I feel like I ripped them off what with all the extras I got with it.
If you can't afford it now, I would definitely say to keep it on your wishlist and watch for any sales.

I really love Bioshock series because they're just simply amazing. First time I watched demo of Bioshock Infinite, I know I will definitely buy it.
Thanks for suggestion, dude xD.

Or you can go around looking for deals. I know for a fact that people were trading the giftable copies for 27-29 TF2 keys, roughly around $35-37. And some were making deals for Bioshock Infinite + Tomb Raider for $40 bundle(The AMD Never Settle Bundle). There's also the Hookups deal, which has Bioshock Infinite + XCOM Enemy Unknown for $35.
(The previous two were found on SteamTrades. The last is on a steam group called Hookups. It's a legit group, I bought Tomb Raider(2013) from them for $25 and DMC: Devil May Cry(2013) for $15.)
Comment has been collapsed.
No game is worth $60. I don't understand why people put up with this shit.
Comment has been collapsed.
Naw, I just grew up in an Era when $30 bought you a game that is longer and better than the shit released today. When Command and Conquer came out <3. Some games are worth $60 so actually I take back what I said, Skyrim comes to mind, most open world games such as GTA IV as well, and I will gladly spend $60 on GTA V. But $60 for a 10-12 hour game is just fucking retarded, then that add this shit DLC.
I rarely see value in games anymore, nor enjoy them. I see money grabbing. If you know your game is shit, and short. Don't put it for $60, then expect me to pay more for the rest of the fucking game because you are so desperate you
Comment has been collapsed.
"No game is worth $60."
"Some games are worth $60, Skyrim comes to mind, most open world games such as GTA IV as well, and I will gladly spend $60 on GTA V."
That's two very contradictory statements right there. I paid £29.99 which equates to $45 for Bioshock Infinite pre-order with all the extras. I'd have happily paid that for just Bioshock Infinite without all the extras.
I've spent 13+ hours on the game so far, which is $3.46 an hour. I've yet to play a second time, or finish achievements/collectibles and possibly a third or more playthroughs. Therefore the game is easily worth the price. It's cheaper than seeing a movie at the cinema. It also lasts longer, and you can play it as many times as you wish.
Calling people "fucking retarded" for enjoying a game they bought really just shows your lack of maturity here.
Grow up and maybe $45 won't be the end of your world :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I fixed my statement long before you replied. "Some games are worth $60 so actually I take back what I said." I realized how silly it sounded after I wrote it. But anyway I stand by my point., if you are happy with spending $60 on games, then more on shitty DLC. Be my guest, I can wait to play games, I have no problems with waiting.
Also going to see movies is a pretty stupid waste of money as well. But I always have been a cheap prick, which is why I can afford other, more enjoyable things. I am no achievement hunter, and after I have played a story once I don't care to do it again, because it going to be the same. So either your game MUST have multiplayer to keep me into it, or be open world so I can fuck around, to be worth $60.
Edit: Also I was not calling the consumer retarded. I was directing it toward the price the publishers set.

"BioShock Infinite: 12.4 hrs on record"
THAT'S how fast you pushed through the game? Didn't you miss a lot of stuff? Isn't there more optional stuff going on in the game?
If not, then that's an incredibly short game.
Otherwise, it's a pity you slammed through it all so fast.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you look back I said I found 70 of the 80 Voxophones and 30/37(38?) Kinetoscope/Telescopoes. There are a few 'optional quests'. Most of which are coming across a coded message from the Vox Populi and needing to find a code book for Elizabeth to decypher it.
One thing I was confused about was in the early stages of the game you find a key and a tool tip pops up and says if you find these keys to look for the chest which they relate to unlock it. Now... I only ever found one other key. There's no achievement for them, I have no idea how many there are. I can only assume they are really well hidden though, given that I found so many of the voxophones etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
Aha, so, no idea on the real potential length of the game then, as you maybe missed a bunch of it and there's a bunch more content / places / stuff, or maybe you missed only a little bit of it, just some completionist stuff that doesn't take up much time..
I wonder which it is. Are you going back for more? Gonna play through it again to see what you missed?
Comment has been collapsed.
I only missed completionist stuff, I know that for a fact. I went through the game very thoroughly, getting almost all of the voxophones and the sight-seeing stuff. There's really very little I missed.
I'm currently loading chapters to do the weapon-kill achievements as I did most of the game using the same couple of weapons. I'll likely clean up what achievements I can then go back through on 1999 mode.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah ok. Now while I haven't played it myself yet, so can't comment on the games' quality, I'd say 13-odd hours is a pretty damn short game, especially as it's purely single player. Not really a lot of bang for your buck.. A damning trend of the current day gaming world, to me. You pay top dollar for a game, then only get 13-odd hours' worth of content? Not cool imho.
Good to hear you had a good time with it though, of course.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was extremely excited about Bioshock Infinite, what with all the rave reviews. I also played and liked Bioshock 1 & 2 (although I felt the first one was a bit overrated). I unlocked Bioshock Infinite last night and have been playing.
I have to say, I'm kind of disappointed. The combat doesn't feel as meaty as I would like it to. Also, Elizabeth is kind of annoying; the developers said she's not supposed to bother the player, but she gets in my way all the time. By that I mean I'll be walking somewhere, and she's walking in front, and I have to move around her. All the time.
I've played 10 hours and I can tell I'm close to the end. They already started listing completion times on:
http://howlongtobeat.com/gamebreakdown.php?gameid=1653
Oh, and by the way, I have REALLY been taking my time with this game. I've stopped to visit shops, I've tried to get as many secrets as I can, I'll saunter from one location to another -- I'm not in a rush. So for me, I consider this game to be pretty short.
All in all, I'd give it an 8/10. It's not bad by any means, and it's worth playing, but I have been kind of underwhelmed by it.
Edit: I just beat the game an hour or two ago, and I felt like the story was ready to conclude. So I now think the length is fine.
Comment has been collapsed.
Paid $60 for a game you completed in less than a day.
Ewww.

I know right, enjoying it so much I just wanted to keep playing it... ewwww!
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually it should be. $60 for a SINGLE PLAYER game you completed in less than a day. It is pretty gross.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah...like those who were selling $40 for AMD Never Settle Bundle with Bioshock Infinite + Tomb Raider?
Comment has been collapsed.
Totally different scenario to Aliens:CM haha.
And honestly, you don't really need to play the previous games to play this one. There's only one real reference to the previous games during this one which actually relates to the story and you don't need to have played the previous ones to unserstand it. I won't elaborate on that for fear of spoilers.
Don't let me put you off though, the first was excellent, the second not so great though.
Comment has been collapsed.
I would. The game is easily worth the price, but I'd regret missing the bonuses too because I really wanted XCom: EU too.
I can understand how it'd be difficult to buy now, at the same price, given the lack of bonuses :(
Comment has been collapsed.
I think what bothered me was the fact that they didn't really explain what sort of impact the bonuses would have - like, they didn't use enough description to make them sound worthwhile, you know?
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't preorder because of Season pass, I kinda despise the games for having so many DLCs planed from day 1. And backlog + my current time for gaming (MAYBE 10 hours a week) is too limited. It was definitely one of the best preorder deal I have seen ever and were actually about to preorder it...I just missed it by a day. Oh well, back to Commandos and Tropico series I have yet to finish :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I've not purchased the Season Pass and I think I'll wait to see what some of the DLC is like first. The game feels really 'complete' in a sense with how the story goes and so I wouldn't like the DLC to feel 'tacked on' and 'forced'.
Comment has been collapsed.
From what i'm reading it's short. I don't regret not pre-ordering in the slightest. 60$ for a game that won't last me at -least- 40-60 hours is certainly not worth it, regardless of 'how good' it is. I understand people love to play brand new games but yeesh..60$ could get you quite a few games to last until it goes on sale. Hell, even cutting it in half and only spending 60$ total (30 for games, 30 for BSI when it goes on sale), 30 can get you god knows how many games if you're a bargain hunter..I got X-Com for 12.50 and lord knows that'd last most people many many hours..CIV 5 was like, 10$ for everything at one point..so even then that's 22.50. Hell, just go to a pawn shop and buy a few good RPGs. Done and done for a very long time. Dunno why people are content paying so damn much when just a bit of patience would save them so much money ._.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because for about 45$ they got Bioshock Infinite, Bioshock 1, Xcom Enemy Unknown and even CIV5 if they wanted? Seems like a hell of deal to me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually, people were selling the pre-order(steam gift) for 27-29 TF2 keys, which with the right sellers(selling around $1.30 a key) makes it to about $35-38. Well worth the price if you ask me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, yes, but Im talking about "official" methods :P
Comment has been collapsed.
He definitely rushed it. I'm at 6 ish hours and not anywhere near half way. The game is so deep and gives you so much to explore. One playthrough definitely won't be enough for me. Then there's 1999 mode which is supposedly the difficult playthrough :x
Comment has been collapsed.
As for rushing it, I didn't rush it at all. As other posts say I collected almost all of the Voxophones and the Kineto/Telescopes. Lots of other people have completed it in a similar playtime to me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Your pirate hat? I pre-ordered it on Steam. Don't make assumptions, as they just make you look like an ass.
Comment has been collapsed.
Possibly, I thought he was referring to me being a pirate for having completed it so soon after release.
Either way, I never pirate anything and don't condone it at all. Each to their own, though.
Comment has been collapsed.
Your opinion is worthless (and crap) anyway. Let me guess, you're a 14 year old or even worse, an poor adult who's too lazy to get job but thinks it's okay to steal others their (awesome) work? Good luck in life, you'll need it. You are the one who's gonna cry someday :p
By the way: name some singleplayers that aren't RPG's that take longer than a day (24 hours in case you wonder) to complete.
You just pirate 'everything' I guess, excluding MP's obviously since those don't work pirated. Weak :)
Comment has been collapsed.
clap clap clap.
I could easily go on, but why would i want to argue with a socially incompetent idiot like you?
We're beyond my opinion or the general quality of a game. If you wanna act retarded and insult me for not sharing your opinion, then don't expect me to take you serious and answer your questions.
From reading your post i can tell, that you're just a miserable person with a very limited mind and not worth my time.
Grow up and learn some good manners.
Comment has been collapsed.
Honestly, if anyone here needs to grow up, it's you. You have no manners and your posts really convey an extremely poor attitude and a lot of immaturity.
You speak of people acting merely on the basis of not liking someone elses opinion. I stated above that I didn't condone piracy at all but "each to their own" and you seemed to take this as some personal attack and felt the need to defend your piracy.
You seem to be the one crying over others opinions honestly, no one else. No wonder you keep a private Steam profile etc. with that attitude and how you act.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are the one insulting... I made assumptions but fools don't know the difference I guess. Also it seems you're the one who never grew up and are the one who doesn't has any manners.
You are a pathethic imo (hey an opinion, not like anyone should care about it huh, still love to say it).
And you never replied to my question because you don't know any or what? Bioshock Infinite has a long SP compared to games nowadays.
(By the way= Not worth your time, yet a troll like you is gonna reply anyway. :D)

Those last 15 minutes were a total mindfuck. I'm so glad I preordered this its by far one of the best games I've played in forever I think I even like it more than the original.

+1
Just finished it myself, and yeah that ending o.0 It's been a long time since a game has pulled me in so tightly before. Sat glued to my computer and finished it in 2 sittings (which is amazing for me, I generally lose interest an hour or so into each game)
Comment has been collapsed.
It took me around 20 minutes to understand the ending. When I did, it hit me hard and i was like "Whoa".
One of the best stories out there ive seen. You may be worried about the time it takes to get through, but trust me, you won't care by the end. Its good.
Comment has been collapsed.
Took me 11.6 hours, according to Steam, and could not agree with you more, the game really pulled me in and made me wanna play it until the very end. Also, very nice story, great ending. I've found 31/37, just because in the last 1/4 of the game I felt some kind of rush and decided to stop looking for sights/audio logs (even If I did look around for hidden passages and ammo) and just push on. I actually feel that I did not use the full potential of game mechanics, since I had very little skyline kills, drop-kills and so on... I've been playing it like a regular FPS with magic/powers, and will try to use the environment (skylines, but also water puddles, traps and so on) more on my second play trough.
Comment has been collapsed.
This was indeed a brilliantly made game. The ending in particular is one you really don't want to spoil.
Comment has been collapsed.
Personally I can only imagine because it's not a Call of Duty style FPS. I found the first great, while the second was more mediocre and a little lack-luster, but this one is amazing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I never finished Bioshock 1. The game got so fucking boring half way through.
Comment has been collapsed.
Same for me. I think the solitary feeling to the game, that you're one of the dozen humans alive in this underground prison where with the slightest provocation of the glass walls could kill you also added to why I didn't want to play it. It made me feel claustrophobic, even though it was an event happening within the game. The game was good, no doubt. It brought me into it and I liked it. Just the setting killed it for me.
Also the repetitiveness of how it is.
Comment has been collapsed.
I guess I just don't enjoy singleplayer arcade shooters anymore (the last one I remember that I liked was Half-Life 2 Episode 1, I don't know what year it was, but probably 5 years ago or more). I prefer to play MP ones (like Natural Selection 2, Red Orchestra 2) or - when playing singleplayer - more realistic ones (ArmA 2, Rainbow Six games)... but even then I have to say that it was rather mediocre for a SP FPS anyway - the only good thing that game had was the atmosphere because of the setting. There was no challenge at all during the gameplay, no difficult moments at all. The first Half-Life was more challenging that Bioshock, and it was an easy game where only soldiers were a (minimal) threat.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, its kinda true though. Bioshock 1 is atrocious, gameplay-wise. It nailed the setting, ambient and the story. Bioshock 2 fixed the gameplay, albeit it screwed up a bit on the story and ambient parts.

Holy fuck.
Definitely one of the best games I have played in a long time. I found in recent years most games story just doesn't draw me in and keep me interested and I skip cutscenes and such. However, with BI I was hooked from start to finish.
It's nice for a game to be so good for once in this day and age.
