There is no strategy involved. You see a giveaway, enter it and hope for the best. Unless one assumes winning chance follows Gaussian distribution, the only viable strategy would be to accede to some private giveaway group. And they all are Ivy League types.

Yes, I'm sure. The only variable participant able to affect is their entry number.

Yeah, and that's just what makes you strategize. You have to decide what giveaways you spend your points on if you want to make the most of this site. Do you want to enter a crappy giveaway with less entries, or take your chances with a popular giveaway with thousands of entries. I'm sometimes juggling with my points, taking them away from some giveaways and relocating them to another ones if I see better giveaways later on.

I meant the index number of one's particular entry. )

Since points needed to enter are limited, there most definately is strategy involved smartypants. Forgot that huh?
As for private groups "all being Ivy League types", what utter bullcrap. There's tons of groups, and some of them surely are lame-assed, but not all.

How exactly does that constitute as strategy?
As for private groups all I meant is that they are secluded. Most of them don't advertise their existence (at least I don't see it) and you'll be lucky to get into one. Has nothing to do with lameness.

Having limited resources that have a certain rate of re-stocking, and deciding what to spend that resource on, is a form of applying strategy. Like Marumisu said, you can spend your points on low entry giveaways for less wanted games, or higher entry ones for more wanted games. Having 10 times a shot at winning a game you really want where every giveaway has 50 entries, constitutes a better chance at winning something than entering 5 giveaways for a game you want even more with 30 entries.
A lot of groups have threads where you can apply for membership, and the ones that don't attract members from other established groups. Being lucky has nothing to do with getting into them. You get into them by actually conversing with people, getting to know them, and get known yourself. There's groups that have gaming competitions, events, active (and fun) chats, everything. You've only been here 5 months, and have hardly any comments, suggesting you're not that active a member. Try socialising a bit more, and reading forums more. That's how I got into about 10 active and fun groups, with good people in em, as well as becoming admin in several.

Giveaways are unknown variables. You can't predict when something you want will occur and in what quantity, therefore you can't work out a viable strategy as to how to distribute your limited resource.
As I said the only private groups threads I've been seeing belong to newly created groups. I hardly have any comments because I don't post frantically useless thank you's into every single giveaway.
Incidentally what gave you the idea that I want to join any private giveaway group?

Just not going for 1000+ entries and you have a slightly better chance of winning something. I usually go for indie games, so this is not a problem. If I go for a AAA game I usually wait until the last hour or so to see how many entries they have. If there are more than 1500 I won't enter.

It's you! YOU specifically were part of the reason I made the list, mostly because I saw a bunch of similar posts around the same time. But YOU! You wanted Rome Total War, which was on sale at the time for only $1 I think. I started the group with the intention of giving Rome Total War away and saying "See? You could join in this giveaway if you hadn't QQ'd..."
But it turns out that I'm mad lazy, so I never made the giveaway. And I kept Rome Total War to myself. And it turns out that it's a flipping awesome game and you were right to want it, haha. Which you should know, since you did eventually win it.
Speaking of! It's on daily deal RIGHT NOW! So: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/h42VI/

I didn't knew I had to contribute, for answer my question

Who is this "we" you speak about ? Last time I checked I had my own opinions on things...

You don't but people don't really appreciate all the whiners that complains in the forum about not winning anything after very few entries. The winners are chosen at random, so there's nothing you can do expect maybe join groups for better odds with less entrants in giveaways. But those groups don't usually welcome leechers that contributes nothing and just expect free stuff to fall on their lap.

I just wanted to know if I should do something to win

Contributing doesn't mean giving away games necessarily. I think you're still just trying to look at this as "what do I need to do, give me a 5 step plan to win games here". By contributing he doesn't mean doing any 1 specific thing. He means, be an actual member, get known, hang out in chats, post on the forums some, etc. Actually contribute something to the community.

Give away $2000 worth of games so you can enter super exclusive giveaways for contributors.

They happen. I've seen a few made in my time here. 3 or 4.
Not like TC has any chance getting into an exclusive group with his attitude.

I had almost 1200 entries before my first now ... now after giving back to the community I've won several times due to high contributor value.
Comment has been collapsed.
but the value of what you won is like 5% of what you gave. so what is the point besides killing time and playing a waiting game. Im not complaining im just not seeing the logic in it when people use this argument.

Hot damn! Nice!
And I actually don't mind having a low Win/Giveaway ratio since most of the games I've given away have appeared in different bundles.

I see , i decided to do a give away earlier today

Preferably under a full moon, doubles your chances of winning and AAA game.

Virgin blood works best, but the authorities have been watching me lately and I can't get any more of the local kindergarden kids for that purpose anymore. I've been using virgin goat blood instead and while it's not as effective, it seems to work ok.

Try to give something away first. Magically, odds will turn over you. True story.

increase your contribution amount and enter contributor giveaways, the only ones I've been able to win were the contributor giveaways I entered

I'm sorry, but there is nothing we can do to help you.

If by the 500 entry you haven't won anything, you have to leave.
It's in the rules. /hint

I've left twice already then, guess that is why I am still here.
