I automatically mute the music in games as soon as I start them, so I wouldn't know :P
Though, in the old times, on consoles, I didn't do that, I liked the OOT Zelda music ^^

Also, about no high quality music, arguably the music is far higher quality these days, but it serves a very different purpose now than it did back in the days. Now music in games is meant to provide ambiance, and you've got far more things going on. Having a soundtrack that takes so much attention from the player, like those of many older games, would simply work worse. Imagine playing Bloody Tears, from Castlevania, with ambient sound effects playing in the background, and people talking, that music would drown out the other things.

Baldur's Gate 2 soundtrack

The Donkey Kong Country series for the SNES has great music.

3- The Plan

Deus Ex (2000) soundtrack is awesome.
Human Revolution also has great OST.

Nier Automata, interesting game and an amazing soundtrack. Fun fact: The vocals are in a made up language that is meant to be a combination of the major languages. The idea is that this is how a future morphed language might sound like.
