Should I get the DLCs? I don't know if I will see them become any cheaper soon. But on the other side are they even worth it?

Better yet, buy Oblivion and Morrowind. I did.

EDIT: Don't buy the DLCs. If you truly like Skyrim, mod it to hell.

Eh get them if you plan to use mods, chances are some good ones will come along that need them, just be warned Dawnguard forces a stupid NPC on you for part of it.

I bump this for more opinions. Has anybody actually played Dawnguard? Is the story that bad?

I don't think it's too bad, it just could be much better. There's so many places that are HUGE and you would think adding more places to the world would be awesome, but it really isn't. In the new maps everything looks exactly the same and trying to explore every bit of it gets boring very quickly. There's a few side quests to these maps, but because they're so difficult to navigate, to me at least, you kinda need some sort of walkthrough to find anything. The new companion you get, Serana, is dumb and annoying as hell and once you've finished the Dawnguard guest, you'll be glad to get rid of her. But don't get me wrong, it add few more playing hours and some items that you can get from the quests are really neat, for example one quest gives you this circlet which allows you to hold to powers for any standing stones. Oh, and you can get a really neat spell which gives you the ability to summon a horse which cannot die. You can summon him over and over again. To me, as I'm playing conjurer mage, this spell is very useful. (plus my horse always dies and I'm too poor to buy a new one) Also, in this one place you can get infinite amout of expert spellbooks (or armor or weapons too) from doing a continuous quest to this one guy. So I would say buy it, but don't for the full price, it's definitely not worth that.

Modding, meh. I'll never understand what's so fun about it. I like what's official in games made by the developers. Not by fans. But that's just me.

I'd say go for the DLC's.

mods can do some pretty amazing stuff like increasing dragon difficulty, make new places, more creatures etc...

Wow, seriously? Moddding is a essential part f the elder scrolls games. Modders make a giant lot of things and some are even copied by the devs(you know the hearthfire dlc? Yeah, all the things that dlc were made by modders before, for free)
Mods can put the game looking better, mods can patch out bugs and glitches that bethesda never has remembered to fix.

Yeah but I have this, hmm, perversion (?) that I like official stuff in games. Created by the developers. If a mod is put together and then released as a DLC by devs that's fine by me, I'll play it. But I don't play fan made mods and never will. I just don't have time for that. Too many awesome games coming out to waste time on fan made mods. Not to mention Skyrim is so huge you can play 300 hours and still not do everything so...

And I was never a fan of ES games. I want to get Skyrim though cause I'm sure I'll love it. I'm a huge RPG fan but Morrowind and Oblivion just couldn't get through to me. They were... stiff and boring IMO.

I used to play mods though when I had more time, mostly when I was a kid. I remember buying PC magazines which gave tons of mods for Half-Life, I still have that dvd somewhere haha.

Well, just remember that mods gave us games like Counter Strike, Dota, Killing Floor, Team Fortress :)

Mods have definitely done some amazing things. Many mods also don't affect gameplay, but just make the graphics look nicer. If you have enough mods, Skyrim can actually look realistic, which to me is amazing.

Oh, mods that only improve graphics are okay. Previously I meant mods that are not official and change a lot in the game itself. Improvement of graphics is fine by me.

Get Dawnguard, skip Hearthfire, you can do what it comes with Hearthfire with mods, and mods that do it better.
