They might be bitching about software having to be certified to work with W8, or Microsoft setting up a Marketplace that will restrict 3rd party online vendors unless they get certification from MS.

Nothing concrete out from their side yet AFAIK. They're just saying a closed environment is bad, which is true. But how W8 is closed hasn't really been said.

Probably the phone and tablet version for Gabe. No steam mobile.

Off topic, I like the game that your pic comes from.

Oh, yeah. True that, might be problematic for mobile platforms, but they've always explicitly targeted the PC in their statements.

And TWEWY love!

Thats not fully true...the software must not be certified wo work with windows 8...just when you want that your app is in the MarketPlace from Win8 you need a certification from Microsoft...the other software(like Minecraft or Steam) will need nothing...
Gabe and Notch talking bullshit, thats all :( ...i like win8, use it on every pc here...ok..one pc is with XP :D but just because of the old software^^...

You didnt write about phones...only W8...and Windows 8(W8) is the Desktop/x86 Tablet Version...what you mean is WP8(Windows Phone 8) and W8RT(Windows 8 RT) for Tablets with Arm CPUs...

Probably something on the developer side of things and not user interface

Not a compatibility problem, more an economics/politics issue.

Becouse of the Micro$oft Store or whatever it's called.. they will need to give money to M$ for Steam/Minecraft or whatever to be on the store. Atleast that's what i heard last, idk if my info is wrong.

Also if i see Steam going to Linux and all of my games being ported to/games being developed for Linux too, i'm totaly going for Linux!

Valve will maybe port most of their newer games to Linux, I doubt any other developer wastes their time with porting their old titles/developing new titles for linux though. Linux will never be a proper gaming platform, it will always be the geek one.

+1

Now almost all Mac games on Steam are indie games or Valve games and there are more Mac users than linux users, so before devs would begin to port their games to Linux, they would port their games to Mac. And for most Windows users is Linux more difficult to use (you still need sometimes the command line) and it many Windows user don't see a reason why they should change if they use everywhere else (work, school, etc.) Windows and at home Linux.

There's already more than 250 games which can run native on GNU/Linux, and most of them is already on steam for Windows. When they launched Steam for Mac, there was only 50 games available. Think about it, Gabe was always a visionary...

There are easy to use distros for retards who've hardly touched a computer in their lives.

Easy fix for Gabe & Notch: Dont put their shit in the MICROSOFT Store...

All mobile stores have a certification system. If you want your app in the AppStore, You need to have permission from Apple. If you want your app in Google Play, You need permission from Google.

They should stop bitching about Microsoft doing the same, Only that they also want a fee. If they dont agree then dont be in the store. Its really not hard at all.

They are raging because there will be a store and many people would say that they don't buy other software or a just to lazy (or don't know about it) to buy it somewhere other in the internet or download a free alternative and on Windows RT (the tablet version) is the store the only way to get new Apps, on the normal desktop version you can download programms where you want. And the only thing I don't like about Windows 8 is that Microsoft sells Windows 7 + a new Start Menu as a new Windows.

Tabletisation of a desktop system, and another incremental dumbing down of the OS.

It was never going to be well received by the sort of people whose opinions are going to attract attention and page space on the internet. Locking down of the OS, Apple stylee, will be a bridge too far for many people. I can see a lot of folks giving Linux a try, especially if Steam manages to get its catalogue ported across to the OS.

I completely agree. 8 and Vista were terrible. 7 is pretty good. There are reasons to switch from XP to 7 (security issues, a better memory model for 4+ gigs of ram, hardware compatibility...). I can't think of reasons for the consumer to switch to 8. There are reasons Microsoft wants people to switch... It's a more locked-down platform. But it turns your PC into a toy. I don't want a toy, I want a functional tool.

I can't stand the dumbed-down tablet interface they're trying to shove down our throat. I don't know what kind of idiot got the idea that it would be a good way to do things on the desktop side.

I dont see why I need to 'upgrade' to Windows 8. Optimized for touch screen? Just stupid and uncomfortable. I have several touch devices, and I'd still choose my faithful mouse over touch every damn time.

Dont get me started about the interface.
