Oh man, I read all of those when I was a kid. Attack of the Mutant was my favorite.

Yes! Good call. I recently read Chiliad: A Meditation and I was just blown away by the style of the book.

+1
I am legend is amazing. I usually don't read books after watching the movie adaptation, but I am glad I read this one. Very different from the movie.

"The Girl Next Door" by Jack Ketchum
I also agree with those who recommended "IT" and "Ring", great reads.

I'm not to well versed in horror, but Leviathan Wakes is a great sci fi novel with elements of horror all over the place.

From my recent reading I can reccomend The Long Walk by King. Not your everyday horror but this book should stay with you long after reading this. Also The Girl Next Door by Ketchum. Even harder than The Long Walk.
Keep in mind that this books aren't 'light' and you shouldn't approach them as a joke, or a adventure to see some bad things happening to people. As always I will sugest a little faith in your bros - don't check reviews, because they might destroy some fun. I prefer my books being a mystery for me from first page.
EDIT: I guess you have read that already but I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is a always a good choice

You Sir have good taste. I have read every single book, novel, poem and article written by Lovecraft and Poe.
Speaking about Lovecraft, you may want to try reading Ramsey Campbell, especially his Cthulhu Mythos tales from the early '60s.

That does sound interesting. I dig anything related to the mythos.

Chuck Palahniuk is one of my favorite authors. I didn't mention him because like you said it's more like dark satire. Although, Lullaby is a pretty creepy book.

Hey friends. I'm looking for some great horror novels to read. I've read a lot of Lovecraft, Edgar Alan Poe, and Harlan Ellison. Please, tell me what else I should read. Thanks!
