They've banned a few 'real' games in here, too. It'd be good to be able to see the reasons for each title. I suppose the developers / publishers must get some sort of notice telling them their games have been removed and why.

I wonder if any of them will be back.

What is completely laughable here, is Valve's hypocrisy of keeping a high-standard game shop.

Apart from the obvious fact that devs are using devious tricks to promote their games and should be banned, i think that there's a scheme of selling cheap trash games to people (mainly because very cheap stuff is easily bought) and Valve is an accomplish to that crime. They feed the trash game culture themselves to get $100 from desperate devs and to get last-minute sales fees before removing the games. See why:

  • Valve don't want trash games, right? Then why they're promoting them in bulk just a couple of weeks before removing them? Just watch every Monday Steam sale has cheap trash games for $0,49/0,39€ , many of them will get removed by the end of next week. Is it a coincidence?

  • Bundles are trash. Ok. But how otaku and gogo and gala and add publisher here know which games are going to be removed beforehand? A couple of weeks ago otaku published a bundle that got removed in whole, around 15 games. They had knowledge? Valve tries to hurt them? Well only the customer got hurt. Everybody got their money, one way or another.

  • How is it possible for Valve to check a game after being live and selling for weeks, but they're not capable of checking the same game a few weeks earlier, let's say, before accepting the $100 fee and putting it on their shelves?

  • Why they're not publishing the reasons for removing each game? If they did, a naive customer would learn to check a game before buying it and wouldn't be tricked. But do they really want smart customers who avoid buying trash games -and keep their wallets full? I don't think so.

...hence, the hypocrisy.

I think they're just money-hungry. If you don't accept 100USD before adding the game on Store, you'll lose it because game sucks. This way, you get 100USD and in addition your workers get stuff to do by filtering these trash games => lead to even more money from better games, since previous ones got deleted.

Valve don't want trash games, right?

The last statement was that they just don't want "only trolling" games. Games might be cheap, bad and trashy, but shouldn't be released on Steam only for pushing groups, reviews, achievements, cards, items etc.

But how otaku and gogo and gala and add publisher here know which games are going to be removed beforehand? A couple of weeks ago otaku published a bundle that got removed in whole, around 15 games. They had knowledge?

I don't think so. Steam doesn't inform about banning beforehand. This might be a coincident, because Otaku made a bundle of games from just one publisher. And this publisher got banned by Valve due to review manipulation.

Simple removals by publishers/devs themselves could be another thing, but they rarely inform about them beforehand.

Well only the customer got hurt.

How? Game/achievement count? Unmarketable cards? Does that hurt you?

How is it possible for Valve to check a game after being live and selling for weeks, but they're not capable of checking the same game a few weeks earlier, let's say, before accepting the $100 fee and putting it on their shelves?

It's cheaper than checking every game. If a dev/publisher behaves fraudulent, the community will send many reports it sooner or later. Then Valve only has to verify them.

Why they're not publishing the reasons for removing each game?

Again, this would cost too much from their view. In the past Valve has sometimes made a special statement when ending the business contract with a dev/publisher. And as mentioned above, the last general statement explained that they going to allow any kind of game, except if it's just for trolling.

Not that I particularly care much about it myself, but both of those should actually be considered part of the purchase price of a game, if noted beforehand (meaning, if the game already has (edit:) marketable card drops and achievements available). If they're removed, for whatever reason, part of what you've paid for is being taken away after the sale, and after being advertised as part of the "purchased package."

That just seems kinda wrong to me. :X

2nd edit: I just read Adam's reply, and it seems very apt -- "just incredibly lazy with facing/addressing an issue and sloppy in their execution."

I don't like their banning process neither, since it makes it hard to track (SG etc), but cards have to be made unmarketable, because they don't want the dev further profiting by them. And they probably mustn't allow market transactions without splitting earnings with the dev.

I see. My question might have sounded provocative, but was just meant in an unconcerned way (being affected myself). However, I don't see an alternate banning process, which would minimize the effect on the customer.

Well It might not be random, cause it happened before and Valve included many soon-to-be-removed games in one of the recurring special Monday sales. They made profit (sale fees) from games that they removed two weeks later.

How? Game/achievement count? Unmarketable cards? Does that hurt you?

You ask me specifically? Couldn't care less! But if i payed the bundle just to get +1s or achievements, i would feel conned. It's a fact anyway, people tend to buy things for stranger reasons than +1s on their library. 😛

Again, this would cost too much from their view. In the past Valve has sometimes made a special statement when ending the business contract with a dev/publisher. And as mentioned above, the last general statement explained that they going to allow any kind of game, except if it's just for trolling.

I beg to differ here, many of the removed games were not trolling and people have already started assuming things. If they expressed their decisions more clearly, a customer might consider that and learn from their views. The other day they almost wrote a novel about their steam controller but they can't create a simple log about which game is removed and why?

I was wrong earlier, they're not hypocrites, they're just lazy and sloppy , as adam1224 stated above.

I just haven't seen a solution to satisfy both sides (Valve trying to get rid of the crap on one hand and customers enjoying the product like it was advertised and purchased).

A lot of your logic here is circular in which everything Valve does must be the correct thing to do because it is what they're doing.

Who the fuck cares if it's cheaper for them? That's not an argument. That's not a justification. Yes its absolutely cheaper for companies to turn to shitty automation and relying on customers to do the work for them with subtle neglect and psychological reinforcement (it's why you probably bag your own groceries these days), but that doesn't make it a valid practice. It's a shitty thing done in pursuit of a larger profit at the expense of their product and customers. If the system wasn't so monopolistic, they'd be getting fucked for it and hard. But c'est la vie.

Valve is indeed incredibly hypocritical with the games they unleash. They are willfully flooding their store with trash instead of bearing an incredibly minimal expensive for their level of operations simply because they make money from all those games the longer they're sold.

If you think people haven't been reporting these games until there's a hundred of them on the market, then you're just nuts. There are groups dedicated to pointing these things out and other asset flips which often have them tagged and bagged before release. Valve knows. They just don't do anything about it until these same developers who have been tagged as sketch since day one with incredibly obvious garbage games have already earned for them with months of releases under their belts--then they wipe the board for appearances. All the customers get to shout "yah! good riddance!" with this illusion of due-diligence, but never realize the fact they're so aware of the problem (again and again at that) and they even know to shout here is a function of Valve's willful neglect cycle.. Real due-diligence means an overwhelming majority of customers never even hearing of these publishers or their shit games.

Valve has fucking psychologists on staff. They know exactly what they're doing. Of course they can hire a bunch of grunts to screen the games and serve as quality control The labor isn't even a significant cost to them, but they do wanna earn from the nickel and dime shit games a hundred-thousand times over before they expel 'em to rounds of applause,.

This isn't my logic. I tried to answer judgegr's questions as good as I can and I did neither state an opinion on Valve's measures nor justify them.

If you think people haven't been reporting these games until there's a hundred of them on the market, then you're just nuts. There are groups dedicated to pointing these things out and other asset flips which often have them tagged and bagged before release. Valve knows.

I know "Sentinels of the Store" or "Digital Homicides". If the outcry is loud enough and media joins in, it even happens pre-release (e.g. the school shooter game).

I think that Valve is slow, lazy and not willing to invest more into a higher quality of the store, but that wasn't the question I tried to answer before. And if I would have a contrary opinion about it, I'd have probably argued with adam, but I didn't.

Ah fair enough. A lot of those questions were largely rhetorical and it wasn't entirely clear you were speaking only from Valve's perspective so the proposed answers ended up coming across as attempted justification rater than strict explanation to me.

(For example, the response to "How is it possible for Valve to... but not to...." only explains that it's cheaper, so seemingly serves to answer it's not possible and rationalize the whole thing using the sort of logic I mentioned)

Valve deleted all my games and banned my profile for trolling. I accept their descission, but it is not clear for me, why did they banned profile with Early Access title, which I want to finish, despite of deleting exact games? Or even tell me what should I remove from that games? Dev, hyped on school tragedy and his game is back on Steam. So why I couldn't fix my games and back them? Ok. If all my game's content is "trolling content" why they couldn't delete exact game despite of my profile?

First of all, this game is made by Russians for Russians. If you don't know Russian then you're not targeted audience of the game.
The story is quite simple, though, as it refers to recent tragedy in Crimea in a city called Kerch.

So it's super loved in Russia because it refers to the tragedy of Ukrainians not being part of the Soviet Union, makes sense. I guess if it had bottles of vodka as health potions it would be 100%. :)

If Valve want to get rid of trash games, there is much easier way:

  1. Remove trading cards or make them purely cosmetic - make all level ups directly by paying Valve or spending money in store. Alternatively, make XP from crafting badge proportional to game price (actual amount of money player spent on buying it, with all discounts considered).
  2. Remove achievements from all games that didn't reach some revenue threshold. 1k$ or 10k$ would be fine.

Voila, no trash games, with no need for manual curation.
Trading cards and achievements are only force that keeps trash games coming.
