So recently I noticed the temperatures of my cpu goes up to 80 when i get to steamgifts site in google chrome, and its only tab that draws high amount of power, and wanted to see if anyone had similar issues here.
And what would be the solution.

While 80° isn't as cool as a cucumber it is in acceptable temperature parameters of a CPU. Some of the newer Intels reach 100°C which is definitely unhealthy.

Have up to 110°C in core when running some games.

My newly purchased computer has been going crazy with fan speed and noise whenever I open steamgifts, and it only happens in that as well, I think it started happening to me last week or so

My usage rises a couple of % when loading the page but then it stays at 0%. Doesn't last long enough for the CPU temp to rise at all.

If you're getting continued high CPU usage only on Steamgifts, could be a browser extension or Tampermonkey script that stopped working properly. Or worse got compromised and is trying to mine crypto or something. Disable everything you have and check.

Right-click the Chrome title bar and open task manager, check what's chugging so much CPU. It can be the website, a user script, or an extension.

oh wow. I did not know that Chrome/Edge had a Task Manager. TY ref

Squall, Papasmok and JohnWickTheQuick being the unexpected hero trio I didn't realise I needed.
As a firefox user who forever has a bazillion tabs open, this will be a godsend at some point.

Thanks, all three of you!

Firefox also has it.

Interesting. Never knew that. Especially useful when you have lots of tabs open and one goes rogue and you have no idea which one.
Thanks

Suspect that there is something wrong with your browser.🤔
However, it is also true that only INTEL CPUs these days can generate very high heat, so I can't say that this is absolutely true.
Well, you can try to install a tool that constantly monitors the performance of your computer on your desktop.

📝GitHub - LibreHardwareMonitor/LibreHardwareMonitor: Libre Hardware Monitor is free software that can monitor the temperature sensors, fan speeds, voltages, load and clock speeds of your computer.

I know that the ESGST extension can be extremely resource intensive on older computers, if you happen to be using that (it seems to be very ineffiicent at loading certain metadata). Otherwise SG normally runs pretty smoothly.

+1 for ESGST gobbing vast amount of resources... and the fact that I use it anyway attests to its usefulness. But I had to stop it at some SteamGift tabs (Entered GAs and Won GAs was killing my poor old machine).

Yup. It's a huge resource hog, especially on Chrome for some reason and particularly on the Won/Entered GA pages if you have the "Created/Entered/Won Giveaway Details" option enabled. I strongly recommend turning that feature off. It seems to run a bit better on Firefox.

yea the created/won/entered pages are murder, even on solid machines with just a few year old parts

I had to disable all the stuff that ran on them.

I'm experienceing the same lately. Even got a warning today from Chrome when I was opening the discussions tab, that it uses an unreasonable amount of ressources and suggested to close it.

What extensions are you using?

I didn't notice anything unusual, maybe it is caused by one of the extensions or some ads 🤔

I usually have like 10-20 pages of steamgifts when I'm out of points but don't want to forget to join some giveaways before going to sleep lol Nothing unusual, check any recent changes / different browser, one time my laptop was overheating cause they put too much thermal paste and it kept heat after drying

Thanks for sharing. I spent a bit of time today trying to replicate the issue and track down the source, and it appears to be the text-shadow CSS attributes on SG causing the performance issue in recent versions of Chrome. I'm assuming they'll identify and resolve the bug at some point, but to fix the issue for now, I removed the text-shadow attributes. If you can, please confirm CPU usage is back to normal on your end. Thanks!
