So, I'm new here, giving away all of my extra Humble Bundle keys for games I've already got on steam.

I don't understand what all of the fuss is about - there's so many people against making giveaways for games individually out of a bundle, but from what I've read, if you add one of those individual games anyway then you don't get the contributor points anyway because it's capped at 30.
I think that's a perfect system there, give people just enough points that makes sense for the money they did spend, and they don't get the ridiculous points that could possibly amount. Am I missing something in this equation that makes people angry at the individual titles being posted?

The only thing I could see that would really be gaining on the system would be if you falsify what you're giving away (EG, a game in the bundle, not bundle locked, but still using an entire bundle key.) That's a pretty crappy thing to do.

Fill in a newbie folks! (That sounded dirtier than I wanted it to be.)

Posting games individually out of a bundle is fine, but when they post a game in a bundle saying something like "This is actually Humble Bundle x" it's against the rules and annoys people. For example a certain user was giving away the Company of Heroes Complete Pack which is worth $50 and in the description he said "This is the THQ Bundle". That pack isn't on the bundle list and he did several giveaways trying to farm points which is looked down upon even if the giveaway complies with rules (DotA 2 and The Ship as examples)

Besides that people only complain about contributor value which isn't the purpose of the site.

But rather than that there's nothing wrong with the current system.

I agree, that's just an awful thing to do really. Gaming the system like that should be reported. And yea, the contributor value is not the purpose of the site. I'm just happy I found a cool little way to give away the extra keys I had floating on my Humble Account, and bam! The lottery. :D

I guess it's not complaining, but I see a post on the forums every time there's a bundle that comes with individual keys, it's an instant "what do you think about the sudden surge of these games?" and it's an instant divide between "it's fine" and "I report them."

I think those posts have to do with the bundle's term of service as said below.
Honestly I don't know why people don't just giveaway the bundle instead, it doesn't cap your points.

Well, I did give away the bundles if I had keys for the specific bundles. But all of my individual keys don't add up to any of the particular bundles, because I picked and chose which ones to redeem, thus sort of cleaving the bundles into a few stranded games. I'm perfectly fine with not getting any value - just want them put to use since I got them.

I haven't seen anyone complaining about bundle games lately, but we still don't take kindly to Dota giveaways around here ;)

The $30 cap for bundle-only giveaways has been implemented later.
At first it was not allowed at all to give away bundle games.
As you have already said, the system has been tweaked (several times) to adapt to user requests.

As I have stated in other threads, the contributor feature has also the following downside: some people see it as an "investment" if they give away a game (so they can enter in giveaways with a higher contributor erquirement), rather than giving for the sole purpose of giving and eventually making someone happy in the progress.
Well, no system is perfect, and people try to cheat the system all the time, no matter how you tweak it.

Well, I've never gotten a DOTA 2 key to give away anyway, so alrighty. :P

The fact that people use this as a way to get into high contributor titles is just... well, it defeats the purpose of the feeling of this site. But I suppose I should have known that when I got steam adds from people just looking for extra key freebies, and when I told them I didn't have an extra key and that if they really wanted the game that bad they should buy it, they acted so cheap. Mind you, not that the game was region locked or they were poor, they just didn't want to pay.

Also, out of curiosity, why are there exploited keys? What's that mean? I've got a World of Goo key from one of the bundles here, but I'm not supposed to post it in a giveaway.

I don't know the details of all the exploited keys, but here are some examples:

Eets + Puzzle Agent: could be acquired in a limitless number by using an iPhone app and a glitch
Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 + Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Multiplayer: were free on a website
Puppy Games Keys: There was a huge promotion (birthday?) on their website and everyone could get as many keys as they wanted (you got one game for free during checkout, but it was not limited per account).
Dead Island + Portal 2: some keys have been leaked or hijacked. Most of them have been disabled by Steam.

You see, as soon as there is something free, people will forget all good manners - especially if it's anonymous and you there's the chance of a tiny profit (in this case profit = free contributor value).
There was that Ubi-Store promotion not long ago, where all games under €10 were free (one game per account), and suddenly massive giveaways for those games popped up on SG ... people have been supended, but the games have not been added to the list of exploited games ;)

I see, so it's games that have had unlimited/glitchable keys. It makes sense.

Well then, since I seem to have a legitimate key for World of Goo and I can't make a giveaway with it... I'll give you first dibs if you'd like. Otherwise I'll just post it on the forums.

Thanks for your kind offer, but I already have the game =)

You could also write a support ticket and ask if it's okay if you create a World of Goo giveaway - since the game is still in the list (unlike Dota).
If a mod approves it, you can create the giveaway ;)

Nah, it's okay. I feel like I should do a forum giveaway to try out as well. :)

Well you can't give away individual keys for the Humble Bundle. They say in their TOS that keys are for personal use only, and not to give them away to anyone else. So don't do that.

Well, I'm personally using them to give to someone else. :P I'm sure I've seen plenty of conflicting evidence in this area and it's mainly to avoid against reselling the keys, which makes sense.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I just don't have any idea what it is, and the key he posted that I grabbed was King's Bounty.

It's important that when creating a giveaway, you give away ONLY what you select from the list. I'm personally sick of people making giveaways for bundle keys whilst disguised as a single game to acquire a higher contributor value. If a bundle isn't on the list, they should contact support to add it. Very simple, very easy.

Yea, that just doesn't sit right with me. The bundle itself is what should be put up.
