Seriously, hadn't heard of it before this thread. I was surprised to see a thread about something being annoyingly overly hyped when I was completely unaware of its existence.

Nah. I watched a video about it and it's apparently a smartphone thing. Almost nobody here has a smartphone, so even if it became available, almost nobody would notice.

Bulgaria. Aaand, not a paradise. Smartphone penetration is low not because people here are less likely to be mobile freaks, but because the overwhelming majority of the population is far too impoverished for such luxury things.

Strange, pretty much all my friends are nonstop talking about the game (Silistra, Varna, Turnovo and surrounding areas). I also see my facebook filled with other people from Bulgaria posting about the game pretty much all the time, today they've slowed down but the last few days since the official release has been nonstop only that.
Edit: oh now I noticed your comment is from 6 days ago lol xD The game wasn't released in Bulgaria at that time yet and only those that sideloaded it could play it.

I don't use facebook and I don't have friends, so I still haven't heard anything about it here. And I certainly haven't seen anyone doing strange things on the streets while staring at their phone.

wow very surprising you haven't heard of it its been in the news like twice a day here since it came out,people driving into poles and getting ran over stuff like that from looking at there phones while walking/driving trying to catch pokemon :/

So many kids in my area have had the cops called on them for "mysterious behavior" and it turns out from police investigations they've been playing Pokemon Go.

I don't have it so I can't judge but with so many people talking about it constantly, it kinda turns me off. For all I know, it could be a great game but the hype behind it and the amount of people constantly talking about it is kinda starting to get on my nerves. They also really need to fix some of the gym locations. One is in my backyard and have had multiple people try climbing across to access it.

I'm sick of it not working 80% of the time, but nah I love Pokemon so I'm cool with people talking about it. I've also met some friendly people at a park near my house who I hadn't seen before and talked about Pokemon, which was nice.
I can see where if you hate Pokemon it would get annoying tho, but there's always a lot of hype (and memes) around new Pokemon games, don't think you'll really get around it.

Yes, I wouldn't call it trash, but I am rather annoyed with all the hype. I finally tried it today and it was sort of fun for a little while, but not worth all the attention it's getting IMO. I don't think I'll be going back to it.

I understand you, but I won't let anyone ruin it for me. (And I can't even play atm) All the hypes went right past me. TV shows. AAA games. Songs. Memes. They all come and go. #deep and it's like this every single time, when something new is a next big thing.
But finally, there is something I enjoy. Something I won't be sick of, ever, (and if so, then only because I can't play it myself) when it gets through my otherwise decent hype-filters. (i.e. not browsing Imgur, not browsing certain hype-ridden Subreddits, not having a lot of Facebook friends T_T) :)

you need android 4.4 and 2 GB of RAM. If you have those you can install the game either by VPN or apk.

Me and my gf were just like this 2 days ago.
The next day we installed just to check it out and it got our interest. It has a nice introduction.
Today we got out for a 2 hour walk! And yes we were running around like crazy and yes people were looking ( we only saw 2 people actually looking at us ) but guess what.
It was fun!
Yeah a bit silly at first but after you get past that phase of how it feels, it is a fun game!
So all in all, yeah it seems silly and/or pointless but it is fun. And isn't this what games are for ?

In case you are ~mid 30 you probably also want to check out "Ingress", the predecessor of Pokemongo, which shares a lot with it but with more depth and most people who play it are more between 20 and their 30s

In my area (germany, not officially released yet), most players are 20+.
The gym at the university is always a hotspot and Nintento did a good job bringing back the original players, who were playing back in the days of just 150 pokemon.

No, it hasn't been released in my country. But last week everyone was able to play for a while, then the servers went down. Knowing there're a pokegym, and two pokestops in the cemetery next to my home is really neat.

I understand the appeal of the game and i'm kinda happy that it is gathering interest (i want gaming to grow as much as possible) however for me the game is trash level alongside most other mobile games. My main complain is the combat which i'd preferred for it to be like main series; other minor complaints: high battery consumption, only 1st gen, AR is very simple, no trading, no trainer combat, no NPC gyms to get badges, lots of F2P stuff, pokemon graphics are below what i enjoy and you "always" need to be outside (there's very little you can do on the app if you are home).

Straight from day one. I mean, it's a time-waster phone app. Woop-dee-doo. No disrespect meant but... It's not like it's a really significant thing. The most significant thing about it is that people are apparently going outside just to catch pokemon but on the flip side some really messed up stuff can and(reportedly) has already occurred in connection to it.
I'm going to use Filthy Frank's latest video in which him and maxmoefoe(or whatever his name is) went out at 12AM-ish and found some 50~ year old guy playing Pokemon GO somewhere on the side of the road (it was a gas station or something?) at a pokemon gym using lures and... That's pretty sketchy. We are, of course, assuming the video was legitimate but either way, kids are dumb and impressionable enough to do something like that anyways.

It's all everyone is talking about these days. It's starting to get annoying. Personally, I think Pokemon is kinda lame... I did like it a lot when I was younger. I got tired of it though.
