Random question doesn't Playstation Now charge you monthly plus the cost of the actual game you want to play too? So in other words does it make you buy the game then you can play it while you have an active subscription?
Comment has been collapsed.
That's not what I'm seeing for the PC service. I haven't had a PS in years, so I don't know how it works for PS owners.
Comment has been collapsed.
Interesting they are bringing that on PC, but $20 a month is a huge overkill. Even $100 a year is a bit much, especially when you consider you can just buy a cheap PS3 and the best of those games for maybe about $150 used and own them forever. Plus no internet connectivity issues for the people who have them, and hey, multiplayer on PS3 is free.
I subscribed to Origin Access lately for 4 euro a month and I get to play a lot of great games, most of which are newer than the title PS Now offers, full editions with all DLC and I get to play them with native PC graphics.
Tl;dr Retarded pricing for PS Now, will wait until it is $7-10 a month tops and try it for a month or 2.

Yeah, I saw people saying the same in the comments. DS isn't in their catalogue as of now, though.

I doubt it'd be on xbo anyway, cause Sony owns the ip. That's why it is considered seperate by From Soft

It's a waste of money. You don't install the games, you stream them. If you don't have minimum 50mbps down, you won't get good gameplay and quality at the same time, not to mention input lag. And to be completely honest, Playstation's exclusives aren't worth anything. (Yes, that includes Last of Us.)
Comment has been collapsed.
Would love to play Last of Us but dang that lag when you get hit it hits hard, but maybe they make it for PC someday since didn't sony sell off that division that made and owned the game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Naughty Dog was bought by Sony in 2001, so yeah, exclusive. ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Have you tried it or did you take that number out of thin air? 50 maybe but megabits. It says 5 megabytes is necessary to have comfortable experience.
Comment has been collapsed.
may i ask why you think last of us is so bad that is not worth playing?
I don't care about most PS exclusives (for me they are average) but i feel they are not worthless games; all of them do their genre well enough that are worth at least 10-15 euro.

I like that they are starting to move away from console-only, but the format leaves a lot to be desired. If they ever moved away from streaming and went more in the direction of GOG where one could purchase DRM-Free and play locally, I'd probably end up spending more than the $20 a month that they are charging. As it stands, it is too expensive for what it is, in my opinion.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed, I'd much prefer if they ported the software and then sold it to me. Shoot, there are games for the PS2 that I'd gladly pay them for.
Comment has been collapsed.
Easier to just get the PS2 and PS1 Emulators and play on PC. Too bad Sony didn't just do that themselves and make it emulate on PCs even though a bunch of random people can do it for free but if they can't make a ton of money they don't do it.(Butt hurt about PSP dying out and they aren't making any real AAA games for it now)
Comment has been collapsed.
TBH I wouldn't mind a playstation PC platform drm of some sort as long as it wasnt fucking retarded, maybe something like product keys making a comeback. Or they could do what they did on the vita with license files and encryption.
Comment has been collapsed.
Streaming is only good if you have a fast internet service, so I'm not interested.
That said, thanks to this thing they finally launched an oficial usb dongle for the DS4. Now that's something good that I'm considering getting at some point.
Comment has been collapsed.
I take it the hope is that people will stream rather than purchasing--basically the Netflix model. But at that price, and given what PC software goes for on sale, I agree that seems like a poor deal.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can still play my PS2 games on my PS2, but although I still have my PS1 games one of my nieces filled my PS1 console with jam. I don't even know who to blame because twins...

If it is then I'm going to feel like a complete tit.

I just checked, backwards compatibility was initially intended - but never fully worked and without question I have one of the later slimline PS2 consoles that had abandoned such pretensions in order to reduce costs.
Comment has been collapsed.
I did get my PC to emulate all of my PS1 games and most of my PS2 games. But then it's DVD drive stopped working. So I just use my PS2 for the stuff that it will run.
Comment has been collapsed.
Backwards compatibility with PS1 games worked with nearly 100% reliability, and extended through the slim line (minus the small handful of games that nimble linked below).
It's the PS3 backwards compatibility with PS2 games that had a few quirks, and eventually got entirely removed when that console got slimmed down.
Seeing as I still have a last-generation PS2, I'm reasonably confident in this recollection of mine. ^.^
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, that was what I thought too. I guess there were a few exceptions, but not too many: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_games_incompatible_with_PlayStation_2
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd dispute 100% reliability as some of my favourite games, including Destruction Derby, had clear issues.
Comment has been collapsed.
As much as I love you, I can't help you editing your post. And secondly wikipedia isn't an entirely reliable source - especially as I have had serious issues with more games than that and I don't even own an especially large library of PS1 games...
Comment has been collapsed.
My point was more that, issues with the backwards compatibility were almost entirely unknown- and personally, neither I nor any of my friends ever had a single game with an issue. Unless your specific console is a bit quirkier than most- you ought be able to play far, far more PS1 games on your PS2 than you're unable to. That's all I was getting at :P
Comment has been collapsed.
if you know of any list of games that have problems that would be fun to look at xD
one thing that i'm a bit scared is that my ps3 will fail due to overheat as i never changed the thermal paste only cleaned the air ways
a year ago it gave me a scare but after a week a clean swipe of the hard drive the problem seemed to disappear
Comment has been collapsed.
The early backwards compatible PS3 models were a bit sensitive- though I know a few people that still own them and haven't ever had any problems with them. There probably are still services for refurbishing them, as well. I hear certain Gamestops even accept broken systems for trade-in. Other'n that, it's all about crossing your fingers, I think. :P
I tried googling for the other bit, but all I can find is a list of games that are compatible, rather than one for incompatible games. And from the looks of it, it's a bit incomplete, several have "?" for both the NTSC and PAL console entries. :X
As I recall, the only issues I ever noticed with my friends tended to be mechanical functionality issues- eg, games that required a multi-tap not converting directly to allowing more than 2 players on the PS3, that sort of thing. Though, googling that now, it looks like there's a work-around in the PS3 menu to fix even that, so it seems likely any compatibility issues are probably fairly rare.
Comment has been collapsed.
they probably just abandoned it because it would be financially better to do that
as people would buy old games from the ps store
where i live there are no gamestops :S
let's hope i never get any problems with it as i don't have a ps2 and have some games for it that i like xD
it's interesting that my ps3 is 9 years old and never had any major problems but i have some friends that got 1 year later and their systems fried years ago
Comment has been collapsed.
You probably wouldn't considering the PS2's actual processor is sitting inside of the original PS3. It was basically 2 consoles for the price of one! Admittedly, it was rather expensive, but this functionality didn't really help the price. They were unable to software emulate the PS2 at the time. Even now you need a fairly powerful PC to emulate the PS2.
Comment has been collapsed.
PS1 games can be played on a PS2 as the PS2's Controller "Controller chip" is the original chip used in a PS1. The only issue you should find are the memory saves - however you can use certain PS1 memory cards in a PS2 and have proper save games.
Games which are affected include FF7 and Crash Bandicoot - I know these for certain as I still play them on my PS2 with my original PS1 Memory card.

Wasn't filling the PS1 with jam part of playing 'Monster Rancher'? :D
Comment has been collapsed.
No, that was just part of of the locally popular game of 'somebody should be making breakfast but our parents are missing and Uncle Bryn is sleeping through a hangover so let's just improvise using fruit preserves and classic game consoles'.

Ah yes, a fixture in nurseries since time immemorial...

Thanks, I also wanted to know that. Since it supports the X360 controller I will try the 7 day free trial.
edit: Just tried the 7 day free trial but it wasn't available for me.

Yes, I will purchase for the three months. Have a complete blast playing the last of us again, and call it a fun experiment. :D

Truth be told, of the PS3 exclusives that i've played, none of them were all that.
For instance, Demon Souls is incredibly clunky. Resistance was awful and had so many poor design choices. Uncharted is pretty generic and despite having some nice directing and set pieces, it's still a corridor shooter. Heavy Rain is the worst "game" i've ever played, horrendous writing, gameplay and pacing, only redeeming feature was that it looked good for it's time. Little Big Planet is cute, looks good and it's fun, but the controls needed some more tweaking. I think i've played more that i don't even remember, so that shows how much of an impression they made on me.
Doesn't seem like a good deal, really. At least not at that price and via streaming only...
Gran Turismo was a pretty good driving game, i'll give it that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Played the first one and thought it was pretty shit. Could be that they just didn't really have the hang of making decent FPSs as it was launched along with the console, but it aged like milk either way.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just the first one? Yo, you gotta play 2, 3 a d Retribution too, their way better and improved, I haven't played any aside from Retribution but I see, well, from a first game on a old PS console you kinda gotta expect flaws.. but I've seen people saying they love it, not sure what the problems are specifically... Anyway, try out the rest if you can, surely they got the hang of it later http://youtu.be/nhXpVNia0Ng
Comment has been collapsed.
2 and 3 are probably better controls and gameplay wise, but seeing as i've been meaning to play Last of Us and Dragon's Crown for some time, haen't even finished Red Dead Redemption or Bayonetta among other games and the fact that due to college i hardly even see my PS3 let alone touch it, i think I won't be able to any time soon or even ever.
Comment has been collapsed.
Their better than just those two wise I'm sure. Yet to play Last of Us? Ah that's a shame, you've been missing out on an incredible multiplayer expierience but it isn't too late for that. Dragons Crown? If you say so. Not finished Red Dead Redemption??? You seriously should. Everyone's loving it. After that watch it's honest game trailer. Bayonets? Ew...and among other games because college, I see, what an huge bummer... Hardly see your ps3? Ah, so there's pretty much no hope of playing those games then, I see.... did you atleast play Killzone games? Best of luck to you and your studies so that you can return to your ps3.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah i talked without reading about it :p it's a shame anyway i like to have all the games in one place :) some ps exclusives i would like to play but not like this :p
Comment has been collapsed.
Sony should just do as Microsoft and port their games to PC and sell them on Steam... They're not making money off of them since they're games for a pretty much dead system, and ignoring a market such as this just seems... dumb. But at least it's a step in the right direction.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, it's a step maybe sometime in the future they'll do this and win some money, i don't think people buy consoles anymore just because of a few dozens of exclusive titles
Comment has been collapsed.
I wish I could rent or buy those games, not stream shit, streaming needs a good internet conection, and streaming 30GB games should be painful
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't see the correlation between game's size and streaming quality. If you watch a video of DOOM gameplay in youtube, you don't need to download a file with the size of DOOM.
Comment has been collapsed.
This is how it fucking starts. Watch people eat it up.

Good idea, horrible execution. I do love the idea of being able to play PS exclusives on PC, but not at that price... plus, the majority of games they offer are already available on PC ( Sony went full retard). I would assume that you'd be getting the PS version of the games, thus, you'd be getting shittier versions. Also, I'm sure a good chunk of people don't even have a good enough connection to achieve an uninterrupted stream (not to mention those that have a bandwidth limit). It'd suck having to rush and finish a game before the month ends, and I hate the idea of always needing to be connected to the internet, even to play single-player games. This idea could have been executed in a much better way, but then again, it would have been a way where they wouldn't potentially be making as much money (oh, no!). No thank you, Sony... I won't be touching this service...
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, that definitely seems to be true for the PC stuff. The only part that's at all tempting is the stuff I've never been able to play because I don't have PS.
Comment has been collapsed.
The terrible idea is the streaming thingy. I wouldn't mind if they do like "origin access" where you are actually installed the game on your pc and then play it during your membership time. Streaming require a good connect and uninterrupted as well ( you can upgrade your internet to higher speed but you can't control the uninterrupted shit).
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, maybe I'll try it. There are a few exclusives that I never played.
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope.
Can't install, can't buy, you're stuck renting games forever, the price is too high, I have too many games to play already... can't see that it's worth it. Now if I could play things in my PSN library with no monthly fee, I'd absolutely buy more from the PSN store.
Comment has been collapsed.
I just want to play Rare Replay without buying a $400 console. :(

Sweet!

Oh. Nevermind.

I just found out about this: http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/30/12712192/playstation-now-game-streaming-pc-launch
What do you think? The price is steep for me. On the other hand, if I were able to finally play some of the PS exclusive games without buying a PS this way then I might consider signing up for a few months. I'm still waiting to play 'The Last of Us'... At any rate, it seems like an interesting development.
