I've been enjoying myself on SteamGifts for four months now, and I will say that I really enjoy it. The community's very active, the site itself is nice, and I've met some really enjoyable people on here.

I really like making giveaways, and though I've only been able to give out bundle games so far, I look forward to the time where I'll be able to buy a couple AAA titles purely for the purpose of giving it away on here. Money's tight and all, yeesh. I always like checking the winners of my giveaways; just something I tend to do.

Now a bit more towards the topic at hand, I found someone had won one of my giveaways with a.. not-so-very-good ratio. When I say "not-so-very-good", I mean fifty-six wins, zero sent, and they've apparently been on the site for two years.

Here's the thing; I love making giveaways available to everybody! I want everyone who wants a chance at the giveaway to be able to try for it. But users that have such ratios make me not really want to make no-requirement giveaways anymore. I may start doing level 1+ only, but.. Again, I'd really like for anybody who wants the game, to try for it, especially if they're smaller bundled games. Perhaps I am overreacting a bit, but this one just took me by complete surprise.

How often do you make Public, No Level Requirement giveaways?

Most of, if not all of my giveaways are like this.
I tend to switch it up, depending on the game.
I always make my giveaways at least level one and above.

I do understand what you mean. (Though I could probably be counted as a "new user", depending on the point of reference..) Do you think I should start making everything at least level 1, no matter the game?

Just so you know, all it takes to get to level 1 is to give any ONE game or dlc. Level 2 will be the first indicator that someone has actually invested a bit in the site, and level 3 is where you really start shedding "leecher" entries, if hearsay is anything to go by.
However, if you're really concerned about making the GA accessible to the maximum number of people, level 1 as a base should be fine. Just keep an eye on your winners and if you still don't like the ratios you're getting, notch it up again.

That's right, I forgot about that first part. I'll probably keep the level 1 giveaways for the time being, and like you said, keeping an eye on the winners. Depending on that, I'll go from there.
Thank you for your input, I do appreciate it!

I'm always grateful to see your Sixes! Seems like not many people set their restrictions up to there. If you're still gradually raising the requirements, though, I might end up being "shucked" sometime soon...
:o

As for me, If I'm not doing a group GA I always tend to go at least level 3, usually higher- not necessarily to exclude those with bad ratios, but to give generous people better odds.

How does a new user get to be level 5?

I've made some level-0 giveaways, but I usually regret it, I'm afraid. Either because of ratios like you mention (by definition, they haven't given anything away), or rudeness, or being offline for days at a time, etc. And it is SO EASY for anybody, even the very poor, to give a single game away to become level 1-- there's even a guide for it. But I make lots of level 1 giveaways, either public or (mostly) in SG-protected trains to exclude rule-breakers and cheaters (only). Just my 2 cents.

It seems like keeping the level requirement at even level one helps a bit, though there are those people that can still jump in with awful ratios. I didn't even think about starting a train with SG, I was in a rush earlier and it just didn't come to mind. Damn. I'll definitely remember this, though. I appreciate the input.

Yeah, just find the level that feels right for you.
BTW, I've been to Kawaii and it's beautiful. ;-) And a belated welcome to Steamgifts.

I'm in the same boat you are. I had one similar experience, and don't think I'll make another 0-level GA.
The last few games I posted in the forums, rather than making public, and I'll probably continue to do that.

I've experimented with puzzles and with SG tools. I'll probably do one or the other for all GAs from now on. Considering how cheap bundles are, someone who's won more than a handful of games can acquire a cheap-ass bundle and give away a game or two.

Indeed you can, as long as you pass this simple CGTools check...

I did 1+ from the start because of abuse I've seen on other sites.

I would like an optional value ratio modifier of some kind, because some of the profiles are very moochy.

My MO is mostly forum invite GAs with level 1+ requirement. Level 1 takes only one GA to reach anyway, and I expect anyone who's even half serious about the site, to give away something like that. Everyone can afford a 49-cent game for that purpose. And there are sites where you can buy games from points that you get from watching ads and such, or trading cards.
If you want to give games to only people you like, then start building a whitelist.

I use level 2 filtering, and usually invite only giveaways on forums, with occasional publics, working out pretty okay with me. But even a level 2 can have a few hundred to 10-ish ratio, but eh. I rather care about rulebreakers than the one who can't or don't want to gift.
