It's a bad game, to be honest. I used to like it, but the devs don't even care about the game and the community is extremely toxic (server owners kicking whoever they want, people kicking each other, tking on purpose, etc.). It's also full of bugs and the archers are extremely nerfed (they're trying to make them not stand a chance against the others).

Aw, I had that one but gave it away in the orphan drops thread after hearing it wasn't very good. Might want to take a look at it again

this is why you shouldn't listen to people. Just watch a video for your self. people are over dramatic, and when they don't like something, they always over exaggerate, like The LuckyShamrock for example. once in a while, you will find trolls and annoying people, just like all games. I have never been kicked once in a game. the game has some bugs tho. He is not wrong about the archers tho. They are nerfed.

How am I exaggerating? All the time I was playing this game, the community was seriously toxic. Read above why I said that.

Who cares about how toxic it is when you can cut their heads off as a medieval knight? Good solution to toxicity, still worth playing, just like people are still playing toxic sespools like lol and DotA, the gameplay is too good to quit on it.

I disagree. I almost never game online because of the way other people behave. The only single player game that I ever enjoyed in online multiplayer mode was Red Dead Redemption on PS3, which stopped being fun once I ran into people that had invisibility hacks. I asked one why he would bother since it couldn't possibly be fun to engage in gunfights with people that weren't even aware of your existence before you killed them, and he agreed that it wasn't particularly fun but that he was getting lots of XP. So I left him to his XP and went back to single player.
The thing is, when you enter a toxic community, you rarely get to cut their heads off as a medieval knight (or knife kill snipers in Counterstrike) because almost all the time that's happening to you. The experienced players do an excellent job of exploiting that experience to make you feel unwelcome, not just by abusing you for being a noob (or lucky or a hacker if you happen to prevail) but by actively attempting to humiliate you in gameplay. It takes a special kind of masochist to endure hundreds of game deaths and constant abuse, from teammates as well as opponents, long enough to develop skills and map knowledge sufficient to be competitive. If you are remote from the server, as I almost always am in Western Australia, the ping difference (e.g. the extra 0.2 seconds reaction time that everybody else gets) makes it almost impossible to be competitive regardless of your skill, and I simply don't find it fun to continually lose and receive abuse. It doesn't matter how good the underlying gameplay is if you're primarily spectating and fielding insults.

Admittedly probably not what you are looking for, but... in the 2D realm, Lichtspeer and Apotheon come to mind.

Yah, not the kind of thing I had in mind but Apotheon does look quite interesting on its own and has a really cool aesthetic I think. Might look into that one anyway

I found the spear to be a nice weapon for beginners, since one can play rather defensive with it and just poke most of the starting enemies to death.
I would have suggested something like "ARK Survival Evolved" since I believe, that's the best place to find spears, but I totally forgot about Dark Souls - you should just really try that, since you also wanted a game, where a spear plays different than other weapons. Dark Souls offers that.

Dark Souls has the best "weapon feel" out of any fighting game i ever played! Not even Bushido Blade comes close!
Every weapon has a different feel to it and armors factor in on your movement aswell, it truly is amazing.
I´m shit at Dark Souls and might not have progressed far, but my favourite is a shield and spear combo! Remember the Achilles trademark jumpy spear thrust in Troy? XD

It's really great, you can always farm and make your character stronger, summon people to help you, etc...
It's hard, but it's not that hard.
I've played an huge section of DS1 with an halberd (that plays slightly different from a spear) and it was really funny.

Hm, based on everything I've heard in this thread then it's somehow starting to feel like the best option :s Don't have 20$ ready now but might well get it when it's on sale. Thank you!

You are welcome, also, it's important to remember that you'll need to use a couple of tools to play dark souls 1 (dsfix and if you want to use mouse and keyboard dsmfix)
ds2 and 3 are fine.

I'm playing ds2 now
it has Spears, Halberds, Lances, Reapers, Twinblades :p
and obviously different kind of swords, hammers, axes, daggers, etc...

ARK: Survival Evolved. You can craft and throw spears in the primal tools tier, and then once you're up to metal, you can craft a pike! Plus, you can hunt dinos [or be hunted by them], party up with other players, and even do Player vs Player wars, should the server be PvP.

Ooh I've also wanted to try a survival game like that for a while. Is there an easy way to team up with friends should someone want to play with them?
...And I just noticed it's 40GB. That'd take me 2 months to download with steam's download speeds :(
Comment has been collapsed.
That little? I'm used to downloads being like 20% smaller than the actual game, but 10GB is actually doable. Though still, a game that big probably requires a better connection just to run properly

Never got into them because my internet was never good enough, but it's been getting slightly better so I kind of want to try again and have been looking at Rust for a few days. Hmm...

If you don't mind something a little old, Morrowind has spears you can fight with.

That's all. The only one I remember that allows that is The Cursed Crusader, I think, but IIRC that wasn't such a good one. Oh, also Mount and Blade, but frankly using a spear there barely feels different from using any other kind of weapon, so eh.
