For a game that has 4!!! season passes and several more dlcs + denuvo even that is too much. It should be free or they should pay me to play it.

Seems to be commonplace for fighting games in particular to milk the customer dry XD The base game goes on a noice discount so they can lure you into the DLC trap.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well. There's just way too many DLC's for me to bother buying base game no matter how cheap it was.

Fighting games do that to milk and keep players invested as more content comes out or wait for more. I mean is a better strategy than buying the game...then a year later ANOTHER full release game comes out that have few changes/improvements and some more characters. And those games cannot play each other; each have its own playerbase, dividing the community.

Tekken7, Im divided cause thats a game that sells you the frame data even as DLC....

Heh with 4 season passes and dozens of DLC, it would be in the next humble monthly if it hadn't been bundled already ;)

Do you prefer buying same Assins Creed game or Call of Duty game every single year instead of getting optional DLCs?

Permalink

Today's AAA gaming consists of both extreme cut content and giving every year the same thing because these are safe and rewarding from publishers' view. So none of them is good for the customer. No variety and dlc flood.

but Tekken and other fighting games DLC is optional, you can still play the game online fine without paying for DLC, while games like COD or whatever, old game dies or playerbase reduce by a lot the moment new one get's released. So what game busness is god for consumer? Even GTA V, Rocket League and other loved games have ton of DLCs too, but they are optional. At least In Fighting games like Tekken it's not pay to win like others.

I always find those naming misleading. Ultimate Edition is not ultimate here, Civ VI Platinum Edition is not complete, Tropico 6 El Presidente Edition is not complete, the list goes on. Even gold edition used to means for a complete game. And there are games with complete pack but doesn't get decent discount after so many years (mostly Paradox games), such as Cities in Motion, and they still don't make them into a single package.

Sorry I ranted a little here but Tekken 7 was the last drop for me, couldn't handle myself.

Ultimate means "last". The end. There's no more. It doesn't get any less. There's certainly an implication there, no?

Also, when Ultimate Edition for Tekken 7 released, it was the ultimate version at the time. There wasn't any additional storefront DLC available.

But... there was additional DLC planned. So even then, it was still misleading.

This right here! I'd be much more interested in fighting games if they didn't do things the way they do. 60$ dollar game turns into 150$ dollar game (might even be more than that) They really should do a free base version to, "lure people in." But hey, what do I know lol.

I read they were planning to stop supporting the game after 2 seasons, but the the community made them continue (link). So they have at least some sort of an excuse for having an Ultimate with only those originally planned 2 seasons.

Thank you for that info! Didn't know that part. Had looked into Ultimate when it was on sale with only the two existing seasons, and the forums were talking about the upcoming third season.

"Platinum" maaybe since there are more valuable minerals (still misleading), but as @godprobe mentioned ultimate means last, the final. So you can also use it as "complete" for games.

As you said, even Gold used to mean complete edition, so I think naming it Platinum while it doen't contain everything is also just to trick people.

I was presuming it as complete edition until the recent price bug and I noticed there is also an anthology, so I passed. Even it was a too low price. So, yes, you can say I was tricked. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.

Gotta agree. Also, things like Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition, which already has a DLC and has (at least) one planned, not to mention it's the 2nd re-release of an almost 22 years old game, lol...

I guess they will end up with Ultra Definitive Edition or something. :)
And I feel like, people will still play AoE II more when AoE IV finally released.

Cities in Motion is quite fine in this regards. You can buy the complete collection with all DLCs sometimes for as low as 7 or so EUR.

CiM2 on the other hand is dreadful. The CiM2 Collection available at official resellers only has the first 7 DLC, you have to buy the rest separately. It also had content only available through the in-game store. They closed that but didn't bother to release the content in any other form.

I guess I missed that one. My problem with Cities in Motion is, when there is a sale, there is no complete collection for the first game alone. When the sale ends, it pops again. Could be regional thing though. Same thing happened with Project Cars. There is a bundle on Steam for the complete pack but when there was a sale, the bundle was disappearing. So I ended up buying it on Fanatical.

The CiM1 Complete Collection is on sale right now on WinGameStore for 7.15 EUR. I bought it there this spring, too. They have the best discounts for the CiM2 Collection and DLCs as well. But for some reason they don't have one of the DLCs for CiM2. (European Vehicle Pack which was the last DLC for the game if I remember correctly.)

Not sure if they accept debit cards, though even they do this one is still not cheap for me, -50% on Steam is cheaper. Thanks to Steam's regional pricing and curse the local currency.

It seems to be a nice store but I guess they run it with Euro, so those pricing probably be still more expensive than Steam's. Thanks for the info though, might still be useful to get some non-regional locked keys.

Well, of course if regional pricing is in your favour then basically 99% official reseller sales are not good enough compared to Steam's pricing. Here the CiM1 Collection is 68.26 EUR at full price and 29.56 EUR when discounted. Compared to that ~7 EUR is a huge win.

I'm in Central-Eastern Europe so our economy is quite weak but we have Steam prices configured to Western Europeans' spending power. So it's the exact opposite for me. It's very rare that something is worth buying on Steam itself.

When comparing those prices, it really IS a huge discount for you, so I understand why you prefer it. It's just very unbalanced for Central-Eastern Europe then.

That full price of CiM1 Collection (68.26 EUR) is exact 1/4 of minimum wage here (Turkey). Sometimes Fanatical gets kinda closer to regional prices (mostly with a better discount ratio than Steam) so I use them for giveaways time to time. If it wasn't for regional pricing, I probably wouldn't buy games other than indies.

4.85€ (88%) for the base and 14.57€ (84%) for the ultimate (5.76$ and 17.30$ based on google conversion).

I would, but no money because of the steam sale, anyway the new gamersgate design looks bad, i preferred the old one.

So to those that don't know, Ultimate is only Season pass 1 and 2 and Eliza, hence why others said it's not complete, you will be missing Season Pass 3 and 4.

If you dig enough there are some nice deals.
https://www.gamersgate.com/product/captain-tsubasa-rise-of-new-champions-deluxe-edition/ 18,70 euro
https://www.gamersgate.com/product/ace-combattm-7-skies-unknown-deluxe-edition/ 17,20 euro
https://www.gamersgate.com/product/god-eater-3/ 8,09 euro
https://www.gamersgate.com/product/black-clover-quartet-knights-deluxe-edition/ 7,89 euro

How long would these deals last, a week or till tommorow?

Unfortunately GG doesn't show the duration after their design change anymore. Usually they had discounts for 3-4 days.
According to GG-Deals most of GG's offers end in 7 days, while a few end in 5 days already. Not sure where they have that info from though.

Thanks, not smart but went for Ace Combat 7 and Tekken 7 anyway, to figure out they didn't accept Ideal anymore, so thought i couldn't even buy anything from them.
Until i tried that Razer payment method, which does accept Ideal and Paypal, it was a bit of a workaround.

You won't be able to play this game after a few years when they decide it won't worth them anymore. While you still can play all the earlier Tekkens even the first one after 25 years and it won't change. But what you buy here for FULL PRICE is just an like an MMO subscription: they decide when you cannot play it anymore. All will left is just a few videos. My nostalgy is safe as I'm old and nearly all old game is playable. But today's generations won't be able to come back to their past.

Then why do you buy any digital game at all? Cos your statement is such a crock.

Yeah that's pretty much all the games with multiplayer features. And this one has a great single campaign so I have no idea why it's "like a MMO"

Seriously Mayanaise is right, it's pretty much the same with all digital games. Denuvo or not, at some point they'll stop updating, windows will move on and that's game over.

There are always cracks then, it's more about how long windows support "backwards compability", then you can still use VMware but it's the question if steam will support that, or make everything drm free so we still have the games, and how you play them is our responsibility.
It's the same as GOG would quit, but their games will have less issues. The only best way is to have a Windows emu/box like Dosbox.

I would keep 2 extra computers (in case something breaks eventually) that you put windows 7 or 10 on, for old games, and a main computer to keep up with what ever windows comes in the future.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True.
I still have a computer running windows 7 (although Steam probably will cease support for it soon since Windows has) and I'm definitely never running windows 10 for anything other than games that need it.

Online servers like denuvo's do stop. And do not mix digitals with onlines. Digitals can be dowloaded and stored, Onlines like all denuvo games and MMOs cannot only till servers let you.

With MMO one would be really stupid if you don't know upfront it will end eventually, most on steam don't even last 1-2 years and having played 5 that stopped, i became very hesitant with them, atleast i know TF2 will remain for awhile, but it's just for fun. Gamespy stopped too and with some games, came solutions.

I think a majority would not even care about a multiplayer as long as you can play any single player mode that a game has (i would).
