My hearing isn't really good when it comes to picking out speech. I always mis hear people and it takes me ages to understand what they're saying. Someone called the phone today, they didn't have a particularly strong accent. I understood part of it was to pass on a message to my mum then the message was to call back "bankchrisbank" That was what I heard. I have no idea what they were saying and felt too awkward to make them repeat it...
So let's see how I do.
EDIT Just under half way through the speech part, can barely hear the numbers...

If you use your eyes too much then your vision isn't as acute :(

One of my biggest regrets is not listening to my mom when she advised I wear earplugs to all the concerts I went to when I was young. As most kids, I didn't want to risk looking "stupid", but now i have minor tinnitus and misunderstand people occasionally :/

I'm probably going to develop hearing problems soon, because I have a coworker who smashes the enter and spacebar keys with full force. I have to wear headphones and listen to loud music in order not to hear him do that. Everyone is pissed, but everyone is also too scared or too polite to tell him something. I tried, I told him I'm going to remove those two keys, but it doesn't help.
Slam your enter key as hard as you can; as if you're holding a hammer and smashing a nut.
Now imagine that up to 30 times per minute.
I can hear him outside the room, with the door closed.
So, hello loud electronic music, hello deafness!
That said, kids - always wear earplugs to loud concerts and clubs. If you don't have any, just get some paper tissues, roll them into a ball, and plug your ears. The fun part is that you'll actually be able to hear the music better, because the high frequencies won't fuck up your hearing. I started doing that when it took a solid 24 hours for my hearing to return to normal after a loud party. It took so long that I thought I'm permanently semi-deaf, and it scared the crap out of me.

Why did they happen to pick static noise AND an australian speaker?
(not that they're incredibly difficult, but for someone like me, a non-native speaker with a rather pronounced british accent and heavily used to it, it kinda screws me over)
If i remember correctly, the last time i took a hearing test it was practically perfect (that was less than a year ago), this was a bit more....invasive to the ear.
Also, holy hell, i've worked under heavy noise environments, but definitely not to this point.

The 0 had me confused several times. My native tongue is German and I'd probably say 'Zero' instead of what I guess was 'Oh'. So it was probably a simulated situation in which someone tells you their phone number? Fortunately, it was limited to numbers.

Yes, thankfully it was just that, in fact i thought (in the first recordings) that she said "The numbers are..." But actually she was already starting. It also took me some time to realize that she wasn't saying Zero, instead of Oh/No/null.

This is somewhat interesting because my mom always complains that she has to speak up when we are walking on the sidewalk or in the grocery store implying that my hearing is terrible. I cannot deny that she could have a point because I've been listening to music via headphones all the way through my adolescence and while it was not incredibly loud, I was sometimes concerned myself.
Here is my result even though I'm not particularly sure what this means in practice/how to interpret it.

got around -22 . i currently suffer from minor tinnitus, and it has never interfered with my understanding of others. strange thing is that i have no idea how i got it or when exactly it appeared. i just know that at the time it appeared i had quit listening to music as it had become annoying as background noise, and instead i would just play random YouTube gameplays for background noise. Need to get around to seeing a hearing specialist one day. although its been around 2 years since i noticed i have had it.

No need to do a test for this. Been listening to loud metal and rock since 14, now I'm almost 23 and it definitely reduced my hearing. But guess what, it was fucking worth it.

It's so fucking ridiculous to pronounce zero as "oh" in a supposedly professional test, I was desperately trying to come up with a way to start 7 or 9 with a vowel, lol. You only ever use "oh" when you dictate digits in a quick succession you stupid, stupid bitch.

mid part was annoying, I can't determine between 4 and 0 because of the stupid pronunciation of 0 as "oh"
I got the first 5-6 questions right then bombed the middle with 6-8 questions wrong

... is this joke? this supposed to be professional test for research?
I am listening to music 24 h per day… I have great problems with sleeping so usually I play music during whole night… I know that I have some problems with hearing… nothing serious but I can notice the difference with ease.
And I Have like 22.5 performance? Way better than average in my group age? I don’t believe it… And I made many mistakes becouse of that bloody "Oh" instead of "zero"...

Apparently I have roughly the best hearing in the whole test. Hmm. Possibly not quite accurate.

Or you have very good sound equipment or your hearing is very good =)

Looking at different people's result charts it looks like they may be showing only people that have similar questionnaire answers to you or something along those lines as all of the graphs look really different

I use headphones for everything on my PC, and I also listen to a lot of loud music with a lot of bass (EDM), so it's no wonder that I scored badly. 90% of the time I made a wrong answer I clearly heard 2/3 digits correctly. However, I'm not a native English speaker so I guess that should go into account as well.

The MRC Institute of Hearing Research wants to know!
Short 10 minute survey with a lovely graph at the end.
I wasn't too happy with my result but oh well, I guess my hearing just isn't great :/
Feel free to post your own results :)
And sorry, no giveaway, my wallet != fat :(
[EDIT] I am aware that this is by far a perfect test for various reasons, and hopefully the people conducting the research will bear that in mind when they analyse their results.
