The MRC Institute of Hearing Research wants to know!

Short 10 minute survey with a lovely graph at the end.

I wasn't too happy with my result but oh well, I guess my hearing just isn't great :/

Feel free to post your own results :)

And sorry, no giveaway, my wallet != fat :(

[EDIT] I am aware that this is by far a perfect test for various reasons, and hopefully the people conducting the research will bear that in mind when they analyse their results.

I have no need to take that test.........because I am deaf since birth.

im deaf from my right ear, probably due an unnoticed/treated infection when i was a child.

But yeah, loud noises damage your hearing sense if exposed prolonged periods of time, specially if you are exposed several times.

I don't think so. I've been listening to loud music since I can remember and I have very good hearing.

Same things with "eating junk food will destroy your stomach", "spending a lot of time in front of a PC will cause your eyesight to get worse" and stuff. I don't believe those. And I'm just fine in all those areas.

Yes, although ears gets to worse with the age, if you put high air pressure waves (loud sounds) they will get that worse quicker.
I'm musician, i have studied many stuff about sound, i really can tell you.

"Louder doesn't means better" ;)

Have a nice day :)

Ofcourse it does, why do they need to do a survery? Any loud noise over any extended period of time will damage your hearing, hell even one short very loud noise will. Ask anyone who had a bomb go off near them.

Hy hearing has been damaged, over the years, but there were plenty of things besides loud music to do the deed. Jackhammers and explosions (mostly from video games and TV) are two things that come to mind. Back when I did a lot of manual labor, "safety equipment" was a pair of sunglasses and maybe a baseball cap.

Pretty bad on the graph. I obviously have trouble in one ear, where everything is quieter and more dull, which I believe comes from when I was a kid and I ended up killing a bee that flew into my ear and getting the inside stung (or it was a dream, I asked my mother and she doesn't remember).
I also often have to ask people to say things again because I couldn't hear them, if it's because they aren't speaking loud enough for the surrounding noise, I don't know.

Nowhere Else to Roam Tour '93. Got a tinnitus back then (was 15 years old). Had to walk around with a saline solution infusion the whole summer holidays, but it didn't help. Gladly the Tinnitus is not very loud (only hear it when there is no other noise) and I learned to ignore it. Have been using earplugs ever since when I went to a disco or concert. Which was hard sometimes, if you are a teen you think it's embarrassing to put in earplugs when you go to a disco. One of my friends got a Tinnitus as well, that made it easier for me.

Other than that I passed the test very well, though I had problems realizing they meant 'oh' (0) when they asked for the numbers. That was not an acoustic problem though.

I made a lot of mistakes, because of the number "ö".
Then I realized, they say "o" for the number zero... (=_=;
