If buying this game I'd highly recommend actually loading it (ie, within the refund period) and testing if you can load into the game itself, as the game's apparently pretty well known for having issues preventing launch (given just how many reports I found when I was looking up my own issues with loading the game).

The game has a LOT of issues that can prevent game load, from EasyAntiCheat glitches preventing launch (to see if this is the issue, you can try to bypass this by launching the mod-enabled version of the game- though do be warned the mod-enabled launch has no progression to it), to launcher issues preventing launch (bypass this by enabling launcher bypass by right clicking on the game, going to properties, and going to beta), to some bugs introduced with a 2023 update preventing launch, to the developers dropping support for Windows 10 or earlier (you can try using a guide like this one to rollback to an earlier version of the game; I didn't bother testing this one, given the hassle involved, but apparently it worked for some), leading to certain potential incompatibilities.. that can prevent launch.

While the devs say the issues with the last one should only be with earlier versions of Windows 10, and only for certain versions (in the sense of Home, Pro, etc), there doesn't seem to be any evidence supporting that, as there's a lot of people reporting issues with launching the game online even with all the other bypasses attempted. (Having Windows 11 does however apparently reliably correct this issue.)

For me, at least, the game absolutely doesn't run (on Win 10 Pro)- I get a launcher error when running without the beta access launcher bypass, an EAC error when loading the official launch of the game, and a no-explanations-given crash when trying the mod launch of the game.

A reminder that the newer Darktide IS in this month's current Choice bundle, as a potential alternative (it still has reported launch issues- that appears to be a consistency for FatShark releases- but puportedly far fewer than VM2 and with the most common issue supposedly being able to be fixed just by simply updating your .NET framework).
