Games without violence

There are several genres with little to no violence. Adventure games and their offshoots (such as hidden object games), simulations, various visual novel genres, racing and various sports.

If you're talking 'action games', it becomes a little more difficult, but there are some platformers with no violence. Some have been mentioned. I think that RiME hasn't been mentioned yet.

The Room
It is a puzzle game, so no violence is mostly given, but it is also one of the more famous and highest-rated mechanical puzzle video games ever made.

You know, people aren't going to suggest anything useful when they all play violent games. Actually, most play a mix of anything, but most of time it's popular single player games or PvP ones.

Oh wait, people like Terraria, A Hat in Time, and other colorful stuff where you beat down enemies...Blood in 1st one, none in 2nd. Some examples, but I would rather like you see playing POSTAL 2 for giggles...Or Hatred if you are sooo mysogenic.

Pyre is a RPG/visual novel/fantasy basketball masterpiece where there is no violence, only slams n jams. The stakes are very high without the threat of violence being the cause.

It's amazing.

World of Guns

One of the games I used to introduce my gf to gaming was Hue. It's a puzzle platformer where you solve puzzles with colours, she really liked it. You can 'die' in it, in a way you have to retry a puzzle, but I wouldn't call it violent.

Firewatch is without a doubt my favorite non violent game i ever played i think. Sadly it is a bit short :)

Any particular reason(s) why this friend of yours don't want to play games with violent content ? Some background here might help you get better and more accurate recommendations.

Grow Home is a nice non violent game that I didn't see mentioned here.

mortal kombat x is pretty nonviolent. i recommend it to you! :D
