Gotta love losers trying to troll someone that asks for genuine help into destroying their OS. Bunch of Jerks.

Avira is a great AV btw.

Report as a false positive. Close all other applications. Disable Avast shields for 10 minutes. Update Steam. Turn on shields (don't wait the 10 minutes)

But then, when you turn on the shields it will report the file as malware (it will take a couple of minutes), delete it and steam will crash. At least that's what happened with me. You either do the exclusion thing or get windows security essentials.

You do realize that malware can actually infect exe files on your pc?

Then his AV would be finding more than just steam, if it were any good.

All those claiming Avast is not a good one, give examples, prove your point, otherwise just empty suggestions/tips/advices.

Agreed. Give us a link to an informed opinion or something.

You have to pay for it, which is beyond absurd in a personal AV. The free vs paid AVs do not have a large enough variability in their discovery rate to discern between the two. And why would you want to be bothered by software that pesters you to upgrade?

Give some link to some tests, these are just empty words :)

I also have Avast and got the same thing. I clicked "report as a false positive," filled in the information, and now Steam works.

Just turn off the protective shield while you start steam.

It happened to me a while ago its a false positive, avast is working on a new update, meanwhile right click disable shields for 10 minutes, run steam again, enable shields again, its not a permanent solution but it will work until they update the virus database.

Hope this helped...

Delete Avast and get AVIRA or MSE. Avast is terrible with their false positives.
