Special section for non-Steam keys/games - Yay or Nay?
If a feature like that would be officially implemented, it would obviously have to be archived in a similar way gas are currently archived, displaying info about the creator, whether or not the ga was successfully delivered and about the winner. You talk about issues relating to the ga creator but about the other party? How do you ensure that the winner is also playing fair and not just exploiting the gifter's kindness? Requiring a uplay/origin/galaxy screenshot proving that the game is linked to the account of the winner? Posting a psnprofile/whatever-the-xbox-equivalent-is link with proof that the winner activated the code? Something like this would be obviously insanely easy to fake so what's your idea?

I have to admit I don't have a good idea how to solve any of your questions, nor any easy solution. I just have a wish I could give these keys on SG as well, as I really like (most of) the community/people here. I might be extremely naive throwing this out here, and a bit slow to boot; there are - as you pointed out rather easily - several issues with this. But still I wish upon a star, it is that season after all...

Same as MeeMesmo
Subsidizing key resellers is bad.

Perhaps it could be possible to have a separate section to gift non-Steam games, which would not count towards leveling up nor the 'official' gift ratio.
Basically it would be a way to create raffles for keys, but once the giveaway has ended, the key is revealed to the winner and that's about it.
A side thought though, if SteamGifts started giving non-steam gifts, would it need to be renamed to Gifts?
Nice puzzle by the way, it was really tough with all that gray and beige. ^^

Wouldn't mind it if there was an option and they would be without CV, but considering how few changes this site actually gets over the years I don't think this would ever be a priority and would happen.^^

Lol, managed to solve it, but lost the answer due to some copy/paste issues. But since I was the 7th to solve it, I was too late anyways :D
Overall, I think certain users should be given the privilege of giving something other than Steam games. Not sure how they'd be vetted. Most likely through the number of successful giveaways with a very small percentage of unsuccessful giveaways.
But to be honest, the way you did it was way more fun imo.

It can be done, it can be fun, but it is random. One user is (maybe) very strict and true, another not. Not saying anyone will deliberately be unfair, but maybe that too. Better if it is automated, even if limited as that will feel more fair to all.

Yeah, that's true.
Also, it's hard to validate whether someone activated their key or not.
Plus, it was a bit annoying to get the email address, but then losing it by accident, but Steamgifts would save it and wouldn't just delete it immediately :D

If it will have a similarly monitored and check-able system as Steam's, I'm 100% up for it.
If it won't... I'm not against it. But I wouldn't use it to give away codes, because I don't know where they would end up. (and maybe a bit dick move - but I would try to win whatever I want. I know I will activate, and not resell it.)

Such giveaways used to exist in the far, far past. For a few very popular non-Steam games, exceptions were made, such as: Battlefield 3 and Minecraft. Obviously, the lack of an appropriate API means ownership cannot be verified, and I wonder if the site has simply grown too large to enforce this or to have a simple trust basis for these giveaways. I do think it would be cool, though. I would gladly giveaway Origin and Uplay games if possible.

I wouldn't have anything against, yes site is called steam-gifts but site name was picked in time when things were a lot different, nowdays, gog has some good games, most of us can tolerate origin, some of us even uplay, and more and more AAA games are not on steam, so while name of site is steam gifts, in my opinion situation in game industry has chaned and adpating to it would be okay, but without compromising main purpose of this site, so I would like it but kind of like have it in separate section/tab with option to even hide it or option to let these giveaway show on main page if user wants that, after all if there are options it shouldn't hurt anyone, user chooses his user site experiance using options, as far as cv and rules about it go, if added I would be fine with whatever CG decides.

Call me naive, but I was under the impression that this site is for sharing unneeded and spare games. Not for grinding CV/points. Therefore I would approve the option to share games outside steam, even if it wouldn't "benefit" the creator of the giveaway. For some people just knowing that they can make someone happy with stuff they don't need is reward enough.

Over the time I have been here on SG I have many times been in the possession of extra non-Steam keys/games.
I have found ways to get rid of those in other places, but never with the ease, or control, of the GA's here.
I wish for inclusion of such keys/games here, even if it would not have the full functionality of the GA's made for Steam keys/games.
I do understand that this is site is built on Steam exclusivity, and such GAs would never yield CV/points or any of the usual benefits coming with giving here. Nonetheless, I believe many would be given if the opportunity was there.
What do you think?
5 Keys for Battlefield 1 on Origin for the first 5 first solvers is up for grabs.
EDIT: Five winners are drawn - first five received e-mails will get keys in a few minutes. Damn you people are fast....
EDIT2: Sent.
EDIT3: I might have been unclear and unfair tonight. I see that from e-mails and times on the Jigidi related to my words above. I will sleep on it, but rest assured - i will be true to my word. The first five e-mails received is what I meant-and those have been sent. But it is not what I wrote-and I will honor the first solvers as well. But not tonight, tomorrow. Sleep tight, fast ones-you will get a key too.
EDIT4: See why we need an automated process for these GA's? Even I fuck up and make people feel unfairly treated, better with automation!
EDIT5: 8 e-mails in total received, 8 keys sent. Enjoy ;-)
