Paradise Lost February 2022 | Started: October 5th / Finished: October 7th | Acceptance. Make your way through Acceptance. | Short little game to start the challenge with. Decent little game so far. Like the story. Walking sim, but wish walk speed was a little faster. awjnja nwjdn ajwn j 2 times bugs got me stuck in place. :/ . Managed to get unstuck after a while, but oml auto save and bad respawn location 0-o pretty frustrating |
TSIOQUE November 2020 | Started: October 7th / Finished: October 8th | And They Lived Happily Ever After?... | Cute little game. |
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope October 2022 | Started: October 10th / Finished: October 18th | -Full Circle: "Completed the Solo Story" | Fml, I am terrible with horror. Why do I do this to myself >.< ....Yup, and I am still bad with scary stuff. But managing so far and guess good to step outside of my comfort zone. So far managed to keep all characters alive.....so far D: Was a good experience still and only slightly shortened my life by getting jumpscared a few times. |
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan March 2022 | Started: October 19th / Finished: October 21st | -Going it alone: "Completed the Solo Story" | So far not really liking most of the characters. Except the little bro, he is cool and (maybe) the captain. Liked Little Hope more, Man of Medan has me more on edge >.< Finished the game and only slightly traumatized :D |
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes October 2023 | Started: October 22nd / Finished: October 28th | -There Is Always Hope: "Completed the Solo Story" | I am terrible with horror :D why do I do this to myself? Okay, I take it back about Man of Medan having me on Edge. Think this game will have me be way more scared >.< --- Liked the story, grew attached to and like the characters in the end. Still am bad with scary stuff, but am proud of finishing the game. Missed two secrets and one picture, but not replaying for them. |
A Juggler's Tale October 2023 | Started: November 3rd / Finished: November 4th | Together we are not alone. Finish Act V. | Swapped in a shorter game as the last one. Needed a bit of a break from horror games and was also getting a bit short on time. Cute little game but finding the controls a bit finicky and keep trying to use space to jump >.< Narrator got on my nerves a bit, but still a cute little game in the end. |
May still change the games around, but motivates me to state a few to get started. Might still swap stuff out. I wanna slap past me who thought it was a good idea to play horror games. Need a blanket fort and wholesome cat videos after all the horror games >.< and might retire (for a while) from playing horror games xD.

Effie | June 2021 Humble Choice | completed | The end of an adventure | Kind 3D platformer with good elements of collectathlons, but over-relying on mediocre combat. Bit directionless, but pretty |
Elderborn | July 2021 Humble Choice | beaten | No leftovers (Purge all enemies in the last chapter without respawning.) | We need more first person fighter games with a dedicated kick button. Combat was repetitive, and weapon variety did little as combat is shallow |
She Remembered Caterpillars | April 2019 Humble Monthly | completed | Resilient (Complete the game.)) | Surprisingly fun game, it doesn't overstay its welcome |
Call of Cthulhu | August 2020 Humble Monthly | beaten | The Call of Cthulhu (Invoke Cthulhu!) | Loved the start, got weaker by the end (voice and sound got pretty bad), some badass closing scenes. |
Metal: Hellsinger | October 2023 Humble Monthly | completed | When She Falleth (Destroyed the Red Judge) | Solid throughout the game, difficulty scales nicely. I've been listening to some of the OST since its release, so low-key a fan? |
Calico | February 2022 Humble Choice | completed | Credits rolled after Witch Way, I'd say Helping Hand (Complete all tasks requested by townsfolk) is the definitive end | Lots of fetch quests in an aggressively cute world. Physics often extremely broken. But you can bunnyhop! |

Well, from now on I'll have to use this term. Evocative, seductive yet innocent.
Better than impotent "unfinished" and "not started" :)

It's going to be a busy month for me, life-wise, but I'm game. Let's see if I can make it through 6!
Wow I managed to delete my reviews from the post while updating my table. I'm a real keyboard klutz today!
Let's see...
A Juggler's Tale was on my wishlist and I enjoyed playing the demo a while back so maybe my expectations were too high. It certainly is gorgeous but it feels very shallow. The gameplay is very limited even for a puzzle platformer. The plot feels like a basic ripoff of Strings and the narration makes no sense in the end. It's also very short, for good reasons. There's not much more than pretty art and a premise. Oh well.
Tohu was a good relaxing game. The art is great and the puzzles are rather simple but it's a laid back experience all around.
On the opposite end of the laid back spectrum is where you'll find A Fistful of Gun. What the hell kind of crack were the devs on when they made that game?? It's very very fun, don't get me wrong. But daaaaamn, that was crazy! I went in a little unsure because I like Bullet Hell, they can take a while to adjust to and I didn't have much time this month. Also the rate of achievements is quite low.
Well, I guess people just ended up playing the arcade mode rather than spend the 6 hours it took me to get through the story mode just once.
Took me over 25 tries. I lost in the last level 8 times! and I ended up beating the last act only because I lucked out with randomized levels with no enemies.
I'll definitely play the arcade mode some more but I think I will live longer if I never ever try to beat the story mode again XD
I just won BPM so I thought I'd give it a go even though I wasn't really in the mood for FPS. I was glad I did. It's pretty fun. I will never get to beat the hard mode with the other characters but I will play it some more, no doubt.
I went into Planet Alpha thinking it would be a relaxing experience. Oh boy, was I wrong. For such a beautiful colorful setting, it's incredibly tense. It's a great Stealth game even though the stealth mechanics are limited, but it definitely keeps you on your toes.

Baldur's Gate 3 is "story rich", so this month I'll go with games having this tag. Let's see what it's worth!
Game Status | Impressions |
---|---|
⭐The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante / Started on October 28th / Finished✔ on October 30th From Birth Till Death | Before playing: Excited to play this one! Heard only good things about it, except sometimes "points math", that you do in your choices, may clash with your role-playing. After playing: Very capturing setting and your choices seem to really matter, even though they are all certainly "themed". You will not be able to role-play your unique vision of the character. Trying to do so will only make your "stats" unbalanced and will force you into what one may call bad endings. Very engaging even so, now I want to try out more math-y approach, I even suspect that the game is actually intended to be played that way. |
Last Day of June / March 2018 bundle / Started on October 12h / Finished✔ on October 21th The End | Before playing: Tearjerker? I don't know If it will work on me, I'm too tough! After playing: Interactive story done right, I mean technical aspect. Story-wise, emotional manipulation-wise we all saw it before. But I will concede that some themes are eternal and it won't do you any good if you become too cynical about them. |
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan / March 2022 bundle / Started on October 30th / Finished✔ on October 31th Not a sole survivor - actually a rare endgame achievement hehe | Before playing: The general testimony is that the whole anthology is middling but consistent. I already played Little Hope from this series (march challenge). It was pretty engaging so at the minimum I expect similar, "not bad" time. After playing: Compared to Little hope, my first game in the anthology, Man of Medan feels more awkward and clumsy when it's trying to keep its narrative going under pressure of gamer's choices. The quality of the story also doesn't really help. It's B-movie after all. But nevertheless I had even more fun. I suspect it's because this time I was less confused with game mechanics and so was able to make more purposeful choices therefore felt more satisfied seeing how they all played out. |
Fran Bow / May 2016 bundle / Started on October 9th / Finished✔ on October 12th The end | Before playing: Fran Bow was recommended to me a lot with an assumption that I would love it. They don't know me! After playing: I loved chapter one! But as the story progressed... actually it wasn't really progression more like more and more layering for the sake of being abstruse. In the past I very much appreciated "open for interpretation" approach, until I realized that it's a kind of artistic "get out the jail" card. "It's sooo complex that even the author doesn't dare to understand it!!" It's just a trick. |
⭐Alien: Isolation / February 2016 bundle / Started on October 14h / Finished✔ on October 24th / Survivor | Before playing: The question is: "Is Alien even scary now?" I mean, I grew up with the dude. All his tricks are now classic. If fear needs a element of "unknown", then Alien myth certainly doesn't have it anymore. After playing: Simply a great game! Surprised that it got such wide-spread acclaim, cause in many aspects it's not a casual experience. It requires some level of "competence" from a player. Well, maybe it seemed so for me, because I played on "intended by developers" difficulty, e.g. Hard difficulty 😤 |
Röki / September 2021 bundle / Started on October 25h / Finished✔ on October 26th Redemption | Before playing: I feel like I'm behind the schedule this month, so I choose something that should be short and unassuming. After playing: Well, it was not short at all! It's full-fledged puzzle adventure point-and-click with a formed plot. It's alright, not time wasted, but a lot of time nevertheless. |

CJ!
What rules say about an upgraded version of a game that was bundled at some point but no longer on steam?
Example:
Observer bundled in January 2019
VS
Observer: System Redux that I got from Humble Bundle: Cyberpunk Playground (July 2023)?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, this makes sense! Technically. But is this the SPIRIT of the challenge? 🤔
As I see it, every month we get an eclectic mix of games at an affordable price, and it feels like a waste to just hoard them and never play them. Hence the challenge: to spur people into trying new things. I imagine, technicalities here are just means to maintain fair order for the sake of the prize, to not allow malicious agents to ruin the fun.
But, of course, It was just an idle question. I am not at risk of running out of games for this event, I can play Observer at my own "free time" :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I understand your argument but if he opens the event to other Humble Bundles. Why not Fanatical bundle games too? And Indie Gala and other sites like that? I think it would be very complicated for him to manage it given the possibilities.
On Monthly games alone, I can't imagine how much time he spends finding out which successes are eligible for validation... Force to him!
Comment has been collapsed.
In their case it's an upgraded version of the game, not a random game from a different site, or a random game from a different HB bundle.
There are only a handful games with ~"definitive editions" under a different app ID, so it's not like it requires hours of detective work.
Anyways, CJ will tell if it's okay with him or not.
edit: based on this rule, I don't think Observer System Redux will be allowed:
" The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed."
As the buyers of the monthly did not get the Redux version, this is analogue to the original (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc) example. Meanwhile both versions of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter would work, as the devs gave the Redux version to every owner.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hi sorry for the delay. I'm not accepting the Redux in part for what Tucs and adam1224 noted above*. There is also the fact that it is not a simple QoL upgrade but the Redux comes with some new content that is not found in the original.

The truth is revealed and spoken!!
Also again thank you for this event, CJ!

I'm piggybacking on this question to make sure, how about would Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition be acceptable to play for the challenge?
Comment has been collapsed.
From store page:
Owners of Metro Exodus are also entitled to the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition - a stunning visual upgrade that REQUIRES a Ray-Tracing Capable GPU as part of the minimum spec.
Same appid but different subid.* I'm fine with it.
Edit: Looked into it more and it is actually structured the other way around with a redirect. The effect is the same and I'm fine with the enchanced over the original.

Have to try for this one. ;)
As always, thank you for the chance. <3

Screenshots for GRIME:
Included screenshots of the in-game pages for Traits and Prey because the achievements Assimilation (Discover all Traits) and Predator (Discover all Prey) popped too early for me. Assimilation popped up when I still had 2 or 3 traits yet to be discovered and Predator popped up when I was still missing a lot of Lesser Prey, 3 Epic Prey (optional bosses), 4 Great Prey (main bosses), and the final boss, Shidra. Don't know if any of the bosses (optional or main bosses) count as Prey for the achievement but the screenshots for the pages for them are included as well. For reference, the GRIME wiki page for Prey states there are 54 Lesser Prey of which 30 have Traits (the wiki states there are 30 that have traits but there are actually only 29 because the Prey named Garden Yr doesn't have a trait. Garden Yr can be seen in one of the screenshots as a Prey not having a Trait.), 6 Epic Prey, and 9 Great Prey (the final boss, isn't shown in the wiki).

Long time not participated in the event, but now have some games on the list as well as interesting prize game, so here we are:
6/6
Game | Monthly/Choice | Ach. |
---|---|---|
Hiveswap: Act 1 | Jan-2018 | Beaten - >BATTER LUCK NEXT TIME |
Bleed 2 | Feb-2019 | Beaten - Story Clear: Normal |
Old man's journey | Oct-2018 | Beaten - Don't have ach. end credits intead and all scenes unlocked. |
A Plague Tale: Innocence | Aug-2022 | Beaten - Knights! |
Black the Fall | Feb-2018 | Beaten - Dead Man Walking |
Rustler | Jan-2022 | Beaten - Hail to the King! |
After completing the challenge time for some thoughts. Absolutely the best game was Plague Tale, plot itself was outstanding. Gameplay was also nice, especially after chapter 15, when some specific mechanic was added - very satisfying. Then we have Black the Fall and Rustler. One very dark, but with satisfying and well build puzzles, second one very funny, but bit repetitive at the end. Especially apreciate all Monthy Python jokes recreated there - completed all side quests related to those. Then we have Bleed 2 and Old Man's Jouney. Bleed was supposed to have replay value, but playing exactly the same stages over and over is not my kind of game. OMJ had very easy puzzles and story wasn't superior - just another sentimental journay to discover what really matters is life - saw that already multiple times. Hiveswap was my least favourite this month felt just like prologue, story had lot of written dialouges and since didn't hookep up with the story, so skipped later on. As a point&click this was easily bruteforced due to very little items and corridor based levels so gameplay wise also didn't enjoy.

Copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta.
Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: Baldur's Gate 3
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.
Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over seven years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.
I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?
No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.
Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.
If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?
No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.
Why six games?
The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.
How long are you going to do this?
Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.
This event "ends" on November 7th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and best of luck with the next ability check.
