oh great -_-
OK its a good game but absolutely not worth 40$

idk really but usually retro and pixel art games don't get such price on steam, for example (Stardew valley which is a successful indie game with OK graphics its just for 15$)
, anyway I don't pay such price even for AAA games :3

Stardew is definitely a steal at 15. 40 is steep compared to other games, but it's an awesome game with tons of content, so I don't really have a problem with it. Plus, I own it already...

That's the price for Shovel Knight Treasure Trove containing all 5 games, not just the original Shovel Knight game (which they now call Shovel of Hope). Still a lot of money to put down, but it's definitely worth what they're selling - especially if you grab it before the new release tomorrow.

They could have split the game up into 5 different games, instead of increasing the price of a single "app" which includes all 5 games. From someone who doesn't follow the game, it simply looks like they are increasing the price of one game to the territory of AAA games.

Specter of Torment is already split, the base game and the upcoming 2 new releases are also going to be available to be purchased separately tomorrow.
No idea about Plague of Shadows though.
It's written in the description that Treasure Trove contain 5 games. I always read it if I have questions about the game's title or different editions.

They did make it very confusing in that regard. They should have emphasised the "Treasure Trove" part every time they made an announcement about it for the benefit of those who didn't yet understand the distinction.
Anyway, now that the new parts are out they did split up the games and put them up for sale individually, which makes the whole arrangement make a bit more sense.
I think Plague of Shadows comes with Shovel of Hope, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Actually such approach is very good for those who have the game already, but on the other hand could make the new customers away from the game because of that price especially those who were waiting to get the game on sale

It is... u$25 was just for Shovel Knight, now you have it plus Plague Doctor, plus Spectre Knight, PLUS the 2 new games... maybe it would be less painfull to have separte games, but that's the reason of the price.
I must agree though that Shovel Knight on its own, is not worth 40u$, but with all the adds, it sure does

Personal preference. To me a good platformer like Shovel Knight is worth a lot more than some outdated shooters like in the Halo Collection.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown arrive on December 10th, 2019 as free updates for owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. While Specter have a stand alone version with his own achivments, cards, etc, etc
Im agree with you guys $40 is too much. Maybe a $30 but not $40.

Nice strategy. Next time it's on sale it'll probably be the same price as now and still appear "heavily" discounted.

Why don't they go to $59,99 to match with Red Dead Redemption 2? No need to play around to get there.

Everyone that complains about the price increase should really just go buy the games they like separately then. It will be cheaper that way. This is a nice gesture to those that already own the trove by getting the new contents for free instead of charging them like most other devs do as DLCs.
Here is the link to the original Shovel Knight game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/589500/Shovel_Knight_Shovel_of_Hope/ (which will be buyable when Treasure Trove price increases, see even the devs thought of you lot that just want the base game and not the entire collection)

I forgot how many years ive been waiting for then to re-release the separate games.
Looks like this time they will finally do what they promised long ago (re-release the base game alone), but i bet they will price it as a new release.
Treasure trove was just a big middle finger to newcomers. They're nice to everyone who purchased the games, but the trove was an way to force people to buy it all and keep the game at a increasing premium. Just now that they will release whats probably the last extra content they're re-releasing the base game that should've always been available again.
Shovel knight went from top of my wishlist to 'get in a bundle or ga'. A dev once answered me directly saying they would re-release the base game 'soon' that same year- that was april 2017 when the game just became treasure trove. Then they only do it now- this wasn't the time it took, they were holding on to it on purpose.

Treasure trove is like 5 games in 1 now so its probably a fine price. I got a physical copy from my local game store when i saw the price was going up the 1st time a couple of years back. 1 thing im disappointed about is showdown lack of online play, as im not convinced with the steam play together thing.

Is Nintendo still allowing companies to release content on 3DS? I used to be a big fan of PSP and at the end of its lifecycle some publishers still wanted to release games but Sony had already shut down their QA departments for the platform and so nothing could be released (even digitally).

can some explain me, as i understand there is 1 original showel knigght with everything, and rest are just like separate episodes for purchase?

Worth its pricetag tbh. I've had so much more fun with this than with many AAA titles

+1
Finally a good comment, who understand it!
I mean AAA can be the best! But I would like to support more a good indie dev., than a buggy huge AAA game that be broken at release and incl tons of DLCs (cut out of the main game) or other stupid things..And then it cost 60 and more for less fun or bugfest.

It is a good game and I respect developers who don't devalue their games with steep discounts and bundles. If I hadn't got it at a lower price it would probably be a hard sell for me personally, especially with no way to upgrade from separate games to treasure trove. But if they can get away with going from $15 to $25 to $40 then more power to them.

been meaning to play this for years now. i guess this price hike did the trick. bought on hb for $20 with the 20% discount.

What i don't understand is why they went through this really convoluted multiple-appid route when they could have just kept the additional characters as DLC.
Or why not just give the new apps to the backers? Keep all the games separate, put them in a store bundle.
It's especially irritating for completionists since you basically will have to complete the games twice all over again.

As an Indonesian I can confirm this as true, I just bought it happily for about $1.

Indo was the only region having this bug. :(
