…reducing the amount of games on your wishlist.

I recently took a long hard look at my wishlist and managed to reduce it from over 300 games to around 70. It does mean that I win fewer games on this site, but when I do win a game I know it’s something I really want to play. It also makes sales less overwhelming because it’s easier to keep track of deals and make better decisions about purchases. Overall, I end up getting less games but that gives me more time to dedicate to games that I’m really excited to play.

Anyway, have some games (whether they are on your wishlist or not :)).

And for my blue hearts:
Ryse: Son of Rome
Tales of Berseria
Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition

EDIT: added another gib for my blue hearts.

Would you consider reducing the amount of games on your wishlist?

Yes, I could probably trim some fat.
No, I genuinely want to play all the games I have on my wishlist.
No way! Only 25981 games to go before I own everything on steam!
No, because the real secret to happiness is… [comment below]

I am doing the same thing. I have over 350 and I cut it down to 260. Hopefully, I can let go of other games to reduce it to 100.

I have 32 games on my Steam wishlist, and nothing that I'd actually buy unless it's heavily discounted or bundled. Even then, the chance of me actually playing those games is small.

So, in reality, I guess you don't have anything on your wishlist :)

It's just the difference between wishes and reality. :)

Anyway, I see a wishlist as 2nd tier stuff anyway. Stuff that I really want I buy, stuff that I kind of want but not enough to buy goes to the wishlist. I figure that's what a wishlist is designed for.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm not usually in a position to just buy the games I want straight away so they inevitably end up on the wishlist. But I see your point :)

I think that the thing is that I just don't want games that badly, simply because I hardly play games. I usually find some AAA games interesting but since they're high profile enough, I don't see the point in wishlisting them. I usually wishlist games that I find interesting and I'm likely to end up forgetting. The main problem is that although the wishlist remembers them for me, I forget why I was interested in them in the first place.

I know what you mean about AAA games. I removed a few of them from my WL, because like you said, inevitably you'll see them up in some bundle or promotion :)

I think I have around 100 games on my wishlist. Definitely need to lower it somehow.

Anyways, thank you for the nice GAs, BauerBoy ;-)

I have 60 games in my wishlist and those are mostly games that i would play immediately after getting them.
I do not have the urge to play them right after they are published so i wait for the right time to get them with a fair discount or even bundled.

Same. I literally never buy anything at full price. Too many deals and bundles around. Just takes a little patience.

Thank you so much, please wishlist if you want.
Actually i'm more happy about how i handle my buy games after many years i play i understand that for me only fps, stealth, adventures, fight em up 2d scrolling, metroidvania indie, platform genre make me happy especially if they have good storytelling or gameplay\physics.
i avoid now vice versa "horror\zombie" (the only exception was dying light that i like so much),jrpg, simulation (the only exception is elite\elite dangerous\astroneer that i like but i don't like all others space games and if i must to be honest all others space games always look to me as a bad copy of elite\elite dangerous),strategy, sports, racing etc. , so if before i buy all games new now instead i buy only games that is my taste.
most of time i avoid also games with Anime\Hentay\Cartoon\Movie\Visual novel\Robots because most of time i don't like them, only if and when a game like that get vote 9\10 from more reviews and my friends agree too then i get it.
i also learn after many years to not buy videogames from big famous publishers at release date because most of time they is not patched, incomplete (not include dlcs, miss campaign missions etc.) and selled at expensive prices, and i notice then when i buy games like this after i'm very sad.
Vice versa if i wait 1 or 2 year after the release and i buy the game for 7 euro with all the dlc's,mission and game patched etc. then i'm happy much.
But i must say also that if now my buy\games is nearly perfect sadly this was not for 15 years before... because for 15 years i waste so much my money in buy wrong games and also in wrong deal.

p.s. premise: i not say that games or genre i don't like is bad,i just say is not for me not my taste,i understand and agree who like it and buy it.

I think it takes a while to figure out which game genres you really like. So don't feel bad about those 15 years. You have to try everything to know if you like it anyway. And I'm sure you enjoyed most of that time as well :)

I also don't buy games on release. Inevitably, the price always goes down. Just takes patience :)

I have nearly 1.000 games on my wishlist, which is clearly on the high side in comparison with the average Steam/SG user, but I am genuinely interested in playing or trying most of them at some point. Gaming is a serious hobby of mine and I have a broad taste in games, and while only the top 100-150 are ranked in order of priority, I have no urge to keep it smaller, just not looking to significantly expand it until it's seriously thinned down by buying the games or acquiring them through other means, not pure removal.

It's actually quite helpful to have a large wishlist, keeping up with sales for instance. It also helps a lot on places liker Barter and Steamtrades, by setting my options to "wihslisted games only", the number of bad offers is reduced considerably, and when you have a large pool of games with different value and tiers on your wishlist, it's not too hard to find matches and receive/make offers.

Now there's a small portion of games that are there just for the sake of collecting, these are very low priority and make less than 5 % ('just an approximate guess, it might be slightly more or slightly less) of my wishlist overall, such games include :

-Classics that didn't age very well from a technical standpoint (ex. : The Tomb Raider games from the PS1 era), but it would be 'nice' to own the whole series or merely because they deserve to be in my library.

-Games with little/no replayability that I played and finished already, but I don't own them on Steam, either because :

  • I own a copy on a competing platform or a retail/physical version of the game ;
  • I pirated the game in the past, before I had a Steam/GOG account, in such case, I feel the developer/publisher deserve to be supported and compensated for their efforts, even if I am no longer interested in playing the game, gifting copies of the said game(s) is a good option as well.

I think everyone is different so if having that many games on your wishlist makes you happy then that's all that matters. I also had some collectible games on my wishlist, which I did remove. I'm sure if I saw them on an amazing deal or in a bundle I'd still pick them up. I'd enjoy all of the other games I removed as well. I just wanted to prioritise so I'd have more time to play the games I'm really interested in.

Well, my Steam account is barely one year old, I am still in the process of building my library, hence a large wishlist. I hope my wishlist will shrink considerably by the time my total of owned games reaches 2.000 or 3.000 games (if it ever reach these numbers, not sure yet if I want to own THAT many games).

It's not really about being happy or not, I just find it more practical that way for reasons explained earlier, now if I want to check which games I want to own/play the most and sooner rather than later, all I have is to check the Top 10/Top 20 or Top 50 in my wishlist. I highly encourage everyone to make use of the ranking feature.

I love the ranking feature as well. Since your account is so young it's no wonder that you have a large wishlist. It takes a long time to figure out which genre of games you really enjoy. I've had mine quite a few years now, so I can be pretty picky :)

It's funny; I get quite happy from buying (or winning) a game I am interested in. But then there's often a reason not to play it immediately and the game goes on the pile.

Then (years) later I discover the game and get happy all over again. And that's without even playing it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm sure there are some gems in my collection that I haven't even touched. It is really fun (re)discovering them :)

BUMP

Thanks for a nice little train!

And yes, I always feel like I need to complete the story of any game with a plot. At that point the game is "done." I will 100% a game if it's really entertaining and deserves replay (and getting 100% is possible without dedicating thousands of hours of my life to the game :D ).

I'd be happier if I didn't have to work so many hours so that I actually had more time to play games...I'd feel less guilty about my backlog then. 😅(◑‿◐)

You're welcome :) That's exactly my approach, though recently I've managed to stop myself completing a story game if I feel like trying something different or I'm not enjoying it so much. Just too many good games to play.

We work, to earn money, to play games and then have no time to play them. It sucks :)
