Knowing Konami they'll just port the horrendous HD collection from consoles lmao

Comment has been collapsed.

They lost the source code for 2 and 3 which is why we ended up with the HD collection being in poor shape. Also, they lost the rights to the original voice actors for 2 and 3 which is why there are new voices in the HD collection. My guess is both of those issues might factor into why they haven't been released on GOG.

Silent Hill 2 had a lot of work done by the community anyway, and I don't know if they could get permission to implement that work into a GOG version. Similar thing happened with the rebirth mods for Resident Evil, seems like people are better off getting the Japanese PC ports and using the rebirth mod.. it's a better experience.

And they lost my trust too, long ago. Plus the remake sucks, I don't have the slightest hope for it.

Yep, we will have to settle for The Room, maybe Homecoming and the remake for the 2nd one.

2-3-4 would still make a trilogy in my book though. :D

Not like it's a problem, a bunch of Metal Gear games still showed up on pc despite being console exclusive.

The 4th one is already on GOG, but they can easily bring Silent Hill Homecoming there too.

Resident Evil first launched on PC in December 1996. So the first was on pc.

Seriously? I remember playing it on PC back in early 2000's, must have been a pretty decent unofficial port then.

It's perfectly playable on PSX emulators, so it's possible you played via one of those.

Not necessarily. GOG has a lot of games which aren't on Steam.

Resident Evil 3 would be kind of dope to have tho, since they cut a lot content in the remake.

On Steam they don't really bother with optimizations, there are plenty unplayable games on Steam that work fine on GOG. And believe me, at least Resident Evil 2 was a hassle to run even back in the day due to various incompatibilities with existing video cards, so I'm rather inclined to trust the GOG version over a potential Steam version. Plus it's DRM Free.

On Steam they don't really bother with optimizations,

Which is weird, as it's usually up for the same publisher

Comment has been collapsed.

Of course in some cases a game is good to go on both platforms, other times they end up crippled on Steam (for example missing the music because the original CD had audio tracks, not running properly or simply not starting), while on GOG they are working, so I assume they usually put some effort to make them functional.

On Steam it's totally the publisher/dev's responsibility, on GOG the specialists on GOG help in some cases, maybe with a buisness contract between GOG and the publisher, I don't know but they are not working for free I guess. So it depends on wether the publisher wants to invest money in that, and wether GOG wants the compatibility improvements (if they provide them and if they are not trivial) to be for GOG only.

There might be an exclusivity contract in place.

Remember, John Woo's Stranglehold still hasn't shown up on Steam.

In the store page, it says capcom/gog as company name. So I don't think it's gonna be on steam. Sucks for me since I don't have an option to buy from other store besides steam.

I would guess they can't make online purchases (either region or bank restriction), and can only buy physical gift cards, which would restrict them to Steam.
Just a plausible explanation. 🤔

Tank controls are okay for this one. New ones with tank or Remake of 1 doesn't work.
And 3rd person over shoulder is waaaay less spookier than this camera angles. (Silent Hill 2 Original looks and feels like sicker than the upcoming remake)

I still need to play the remake of Resident Evil 1 & 2 in my library ^^' And then play Them and Us as well as Tormented Souls which are closer to the OG Resident Evils.

Not sure if I would have much interest on the OG games on computer. At least RE2 I still have for the playstation.

I remember hearing that RE1 had two different ports to PC back in the day, one being substantially better than the other, I really hope this includes the good one.
Added to the wishlist, thanks for the info :)

According to reviews, it's based on the US version.. so one of the bad ports. Better off getting the MediaKite version and using the rebirth mod

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just watched a review/add for these fixed GOG ports and the RE1's cutscenes are running at like 10 FPS, but other than that it seems like they did a decent job of making sure that they run fine on modern systems and addressed some of the bugs.
Not quite great but maybe ok if they ever go for sale for let's say 75% off.

Also it was GOG that approached Capcom so pretty much no chance of these versions showing up on Steam any time soon.
