I had a crazy idea the other day when the forum decided a film and gave 7 days to watch it. On that day, users came to the thread and talk about the movie. I'm not that famous nor charismatic to start that but I thought it would be nice to drop the idea.

On a similar topic, I've rewatched The Master, wich is very good and complex and there are a lot of things I didn't catch...

And also watched the first season of Fortitude wich is a crime series placed in an little twon in an arctic island. The series starts like 'Broadchurch' but mixes with a lot of 'psychological' terror stuff and stops being more than one 'whodunnit'. It's okay but I really think there are better stuff on that genre.

Mandatory shitty GA (LVL4) in here

The Master is such a great movie, love me some PTA! I think my favorite of his has to be Inherent Vice though, art film and stoner comedy makes for such a weird and wonderful mix :p

I haven't really been watching any movies lately, last movie I saw was Blade Runner 2049 a couple of weeks ago. What a beautifully shot movie though, Villeneuve is really cementing himself as one of the greats of the new generation

I've been making my way through Mindhunter though, I'm not usually into police procedurals but it's really good

I'd totally be down for weekly movie discussion btw!

The book, Inherent Vice, was even more... surreal. I enjoyed the movie, but it felt very weird. I think my favourite PTA is There will be blood because... well, it's really powerful. I haven't seen Boogie Nights, I think it's the only film from him I haven't watched.

I haven't actually seen There Will be Blood yet. Or rather I watched it about half way through a few years ago and never got around to finishing it. I heard a lot of great things about it tho, I should definitely get back to it!

I actually have Inherent Vice on my shelf but haven't read it yet, it's on my list for this year :p

Blade Runner 2049 was somewhat nice. Cyberpunk is my fave genre, but it was just like every single scene was drawn out 10-20% too long. Especially the unwrapping scene was almost comical.

The cinematography in that movie was amazing. But it's also Roger Deakins who is behind that (Sicario, Skyfall, big labowski, no country for old men). That man knows how to make things look amazing.

Like I said, the idea should have come from someone popular/famous/beloved in the site, to avoid comments like that

I cant be the only one to prefer the other way around.
Ive always wanted a more personal group of movie enthusiasts.
Just never thought people would enjoy the idea. "Last movie you watched" is atleaat one thread.
While something like this would probably require one once a week...to which point some might consider spammy or unwelcomed

Making a group for that kinda stuff seems like a nice idea tbh .

You can filter ppl like me who find stuff like that completely pointless and make a community of less toxic ppl :P

When i look at the forum, i see a community without hobbies. Every thread is centered around this site.

A group like this exists actually: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/ajdEI/group-for-movie-lovers-movie-addicts-club-open-for-recruitment

But since the last post there was nearly a year ago, I have no idea if they are still active. Also, they seem to be more of a GA-focused group.

But there seems to be some interest here at least for a film-centered group/thread/viewing event/something. You could try drumming up interest and starting one! (Maybe even together with the OP?)

I need to rewatch The Master. It'll be a bit sad about Philip Seymour Hoffman, though.

I haven't seen it yet, for that reason. I keep it around, so that I still have something "new" to watch, with Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm weird.

I saw The Master in the cinema when it was released, it shone with the intensity and verve of much of PTA's work, especially in the incredible performances by the leads. But to be honest, it's a film I admire more than enjoy, and I have no intention of watching it again anytime soon. There Will Be Blood, on the other hand, I personally consider one of the finest works of cinema ever produced, it is probably my favourite film of the past decade. I have yet to see Inherent Vice.

Just watched Blade Runner 2049 for the second time this week, this time in an IMAX theater. The superlative visuals made it worthwhile, needless to say. I have an almost irrational love for the first one, and this one helps to satisfy my craving for more of that universe. The film holds up very well in a second viewing, I noticed some details that I missed the first time, which is always cool--however, it also made me reevaluate some scenes or elements that I would now think could have been handled in a better manner. Interestingly enough, the pacing is not one of them, if anything I was almost surprised at the momentum of the plot this time, contrary to what is often brought up as a point of criticism of the film.

Also, no need to feel that you are inadequate or not well known enough to start with your idea. You could just give it a try and see how it goes, if you feel like doing it, of course!
