Attention to all tech savvies,

I have an (old) 3DS XL with the included 4gb SD card, and I want to upgrade to a 32gb SD card
Nintendo support says it can't guarantee it will work, but it has tested some cards and reccomends them here

I found this (sorry for the language, could not find it anywhere else) model for about 15 bucks, but it isn't on the recommended list
The cheapest from the list is double the price
So what should I do?

Here's a link to a gib as thanks

EDIT: thread closed, thanks Sagey for the answer

I think that the supported list mostly included affiliates, so I would go for the cheap one. Wouldn't know how SD cards sre different that the 3DS wouldn't support any. I don't know much about tech stuff tho.
Happy birthday.

The newer ones come in EXFAT format, which is microsoft licensed. That is why Nintendo doesn't support that format as they would need to pay for licensing fees.
However any SD card can be formatted to standard FAT32 format. There are many tools to do so, however you would need a sd card reader for your PC.

So as long as the SD card is in fat32 format, it should work just fine. Just remember that old 3ds only takes SD cards in. So if you buy micro-sd card, be sure that it comes with an adapter.
I currently rolling with 64 Gb micro SDHX with adapter and it is working just fine after I formatted it to fat32 format.

I think 32gb will satisfy my storage needs
So just to be sure I understand, I should go with the cheap one?
I got the card reader covered

Yes go for cheapest one. 3ds doesn't benefit much from faster speeds. That's even more so with old 3ds.
And since you have card reader, you could even buy EXFAT ones and then format them yourself to fat32 in 32k allocation size.
