Once in a while there are people complaining here that they didn't win like it was obligatory to win, no wonder they are ungrateful asshats, they are just taking what they 'deserve'. This is why some gifters just stick to creating giveaways for certain groups around here or other guys they know from SG via private giveaways. I'm afraid this is just the way it is, I've heard that contributor giveaways don't solve that much, can't really say myself, didn't create much of them and it was long time ago. I stick to the groups.

Often in groups you'll get more people thanking you and things like that. With higher contributor requeriments, well. That's not so true.

If you go to the highest tier maybe. If not there's not really a noticeable difference I think. But I dunno.

Highly unscientific, but my first public no-CV giveaway had an entry:comment ratio of 11.5 to 1. My public CV $30.01 giveaway had a ratio of 5.9 to 1

I noticed that people who give away more games also tend to thank more. You give away games for everyone so you won't get many thanks. Most of them are just leechers. That's why CV option is good when you create giveaways. I don't even do public ones anymore or when I do I set a high CV limit to keep the leechers off.

I typically don't comment unless I can think of something interesting to say. I'll post there to say thanks after the giveaway if I didn't get a chance to say it to the giveaway creator over chat though.

Why you have me on your Steam friends list then? It's not hard to make me disappear from that list you know.

I usually don't say anything when I enter a giveaway, but I always say thank you if I win.

Yup. Zdzisław Beksiński. I'm actually from the same town as he was.

To those who won my giveaways, they have always e-mailed back saying thanks. I expect nothing so something is always a bonus.

While I'm (obviously) not a "winner," I always thank the person who made the giveaway when I enter one. That is in addition to the thank you I would give if I actually won something. Also, I will sometimes thank people who make expensive giveaways, even if I can't (or don't want to) enter. That's just how my mother raised me....

One possibility if you're unhappy with people not commenting/thanking in your giveaways, but still want to leave the giveaway open to as many people as possible, is to get a "no comment = re-roll" rule approved, then give the game to a group nearly everyone belongs to (ie Summer Camp, S.Gifts, etc).

Oh - I didn't realise this :)
Thanks for the heads-up.

First of all I'd like to thank you for making all those giveaways. Haven't entered one of yours, but I appreciate people who give away, and I appreciate even more people who make public giveaways.
I think that my thanks ratio is better for public giveaways, but I'm not sure. Occasionally I gave away bonus stuff to people who thanked me.
When I entered giveaways I often didn't thank on the giveaway. I think I made more comments on giveaways I didn't enter than on those I did (often to thank the gifter for giving away a game that I like and already own).

I rarely comment on the actual giveaway as its generally just a bunch of scripted thanks that the creators could probably do without. When I do win something though I always try and get back to the gifted to say thanks either in reply to their email if they sent the key that way or in steam chat.

And I think this is how it should be done. I used to write a generic "thanks" on every giveaway before realizing it didn't mean anything. When (if...) I ever win something, I'll make sure to express my gratitude for the game then, not buried beneath a thousand other thank-yous.

Well, comments are not something I'm crazy about when I make a giveaway. A nice thank you from the winner is enough for me. I don't always comment on public giveaways I join (CV or not), but I always respond when I win.

If you want comments, the majority can be found in group and/or private giveaways. The comment to entrant ratio does increase as the contribution requirement increases, but that's mostly because high contributors are generally more active in the site and forums.
I don't say thanks on public or contributor giveaways anymore. Instead, if I win, I (try to) give the gifter a game from his wishlist as thanks.

I don't thank on every single giveaway. Most of my comments are for GA that have some extra comment, or if I feel I must comment about something. That's why in some of my giveaways, I try to ask people for something different, so people tend to reply more. But, I make sure that for all GA I win, I properly say thanks, through e-mail or steam chat.

+1 I do the same, I think it's better to thank the person personally if you win than just saying "Thanks".

I try to comment on every giveaway I enter. It's either something to add up to the conversation or I thank for the chance to win a game I want. If I win I do thank again, but this time as an e-mail reply or through Steam chat/profile comment.
On the other side, I don't really expect a thank you comment from every entry on my giveaways. Though I kinda expect one from the winner.

I rarely thank people in the comments because I think that's spamming.

Since I started doing these giveaways I've noticed that roughly about 1 out of 10 people who have won a game actually bother to say thanks. There are lots of people who enter that show some gratitude for a chance to win by posting a nice comment, which I think is really nice. My question is, do the numbers who actually thank you for the game go up when you add a contribution requirement to the giveaway? I don't like the idea of adding a contribution requirement, but at the same time it just seems appropriate for people to take the time to say thanks. I never expected everybody to say thanks, but just a greater percentage than what I've seen. Anyway, was just curious about the thoughts of others on this topic. I appreciate any feedback that is given.
