I'm sitting at 999 achievements. I'd like to hear suggestions from the SG community what I should try to get for my 1,000th achievement. Take a look and give it a shot. =)

If I pick your achievement, you get automatically whitelisted private entry to a GA for a newly released AAA game my thanks for making my 1,000th achievement a little more fun.

Should I dust off an older game and get an achievement I never got?
Should I get one of those hard-to-reach (but still attainable) achievements?
Should I try out a brand new game and get its first achievement?

A few things [sorry, this got longer than I intended]:

  • Single-player only, from a game I currently own.
  • I'm not going pick anything insanely difficult. Gaming time is limited;
  • Maybe make sure that I can actually achieve your suggestion without getting another/others first;
  • I probably won't pick something from a game I haven't played* that has a ton of achievements I'll probably never get.
  • I may not respond to every suggestion, though I'll read every one and will of course update the thread with my final choice.
  • Feel free to type something in your browser with the characters S, g, G, 3, and K in it.

Thank you for your participation! I'll pick my target 1,000th achievement Monday morning, US EDT. =)

I wouldn't be able to avoid other achievements before getting Pathfinder, so it couldn't be my 1,000th.

Path of Exile
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Pacifist. Sounds like you loved this game. But also sounds like you can easily mess up this achievement due to rather stupid reasons.
Tomb Raider Mostly multiplayer and some not-so-interesting achievements.
Torchlight
LYNE
Deponia - I haven't played any of the Deponia games before, but this achievement also gives you a perfect game! Two birds with one stone. I have no idea what time effort is needed for this achievement.
Faerie Solitaire Waaay too grindy.
Scribblenauts Unlimited Mostly end game achievements.
Portal While it would be nice to play this game again and re-experience it, there's probably no way you can do this achievement without a guide, which takes away from the "specialty" of the achievement.

Games you haven't started yet:
Skyrim Seriously beautiful. If you haven't played it yet, the journey will be amazing. Unfortunately, crossing this out because it requires a huge amount of time investment to get the rest of the achievements.
Dust: An Elysian Tail This game is beautiful. But if you're trying to target a specific achievement for your 1,000th one, it'll be difficult. ~32 hours to perfect. Not easy, but not extremely hard either.

Games you don't own yet:
Ittle Dew - In the style of the Zelda Gameboy games. I really enjoyed it, and it's a bit of a challenge to perfect, but very doable.

I pretty much reiterated what everyone else said. I tried, though. :P

I really appreciate the effort-- you really took the time to look for a really good 1,000th achievement.

  • Drogglejug (Deponia) would probably take a couple of hours, and I would need a guide. But it has not been lost on me that it will also get me to 100%. Still a contender.
  • Someday I do want to 100% Scribblenauts Unlimited, but there's no one next achievement that makes sense here for #1,000.
  • LYNE is actually an interesting idea. It would take work, something to be somewhat proud of, but wouldn't take forever.
  • If Drogglejug is a contender, then so is Transmission Received. But yes-- less special with a guide in both cases.
  • Ah, Skyrim. I played just up to the point that I was about to get the first (super easy) achievement. But because I'm so lame, I don't want a 1/75 on my "record." And so I don't play the game. Nuts, huh? Also, it's a big time commitment overall and I don't have much gaming time, especially for long, immersive sessions. I wish I could just disable achievements on this game.
  • Dust...yep, one of the many games I must play. I've actually never played an action RPG with combo-based combat...will be new to me.
  • I could also do Torchlight or Torchlight II, though I'm not sure what the next logical achievement would be (and Steam doesn't seem to be recognizing that I'm logged in so I can't check atm). I could do "Fisher King" in Torchlight I guess, lol.
  • Another possibility is Legend of Grimrock. I should dust off that game. Not sure what the next achievement would be.
  • Portal's "Basic Science" is also possible.
  • I could also replay Jolly Rover and get the cracker I missed so I could 100% it.

Anyway, thanks again for the reply. =)

I would say,

Space Pirates and Zombies:
Sniper
Base Killington

since those fall nicely in the "really hard to do, but manageable" category......but you'll end up getting tons of others before that, so I'll say Slave Driver, because collecting goons is fun.

Would I be able to do that before getting other achievements?
E.g., Complete 5 Missions, Escape the Sol System, etc.?

You should, you get goons from pretty much every ship you blow up and you can collect them from cryo cannisters in debris fields too. It'd just be a bit time consuming since it looks like you're right near the beginning, you'd have to make lots of trips back to the Clockwork to dump them off.

Or you could just space them as you go and make Eye Popper your 1,001st. The only thing more fun than collecting goons is shoving them out an airlock.

You can try Dustforce, it has a single achievement (and in my opinion is almost impossible but that's just a small detail).

EDIT: You can also throw a can to a combine soldier in Half-Life 2 (without getting other achievements before it) or show your middle finger in Surgeon Simulator (but be careful to not use other finger combinations first).

The middle finger in Surgeon Simulator isn't a bad idea, lol.
Oh-- except that it will kill my completion percentage. Lame, I know. =(

Nah, I know how you feel.
Did you get the Stanley Parable demo achievement when you tried it?

EDIT: I just saw that you have 100+ hours in Deus Ex Human Revolution and you still didn't finish the game on the hardest difficulty.

Re: Stanley Parable, I did, but IIRC that achievement auto-removes just to screw with you. It's weird.
Yeah, my only playthrough was a completionist (max XP) attempt at Pacifist/Foxiest. I didn't get truly max XP, but I was pretty close.

There is a way too keep that achievement, I'm pretty sure you can find it in the game guides.

I wanted to suggest "Blessed" in Skyrim but unfortunately it's the second achievement you get in the game :(
On another note, you really need to play (more) Skyrim. It's a great game.

Edit: I suggest "Fuzzy lil fellow" in Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride. For once, because I really liked the story of the game and secondly because your profile picture also is a cat. I know that it's one of the games you just farmed the cards but nonetheless I still suggest that one. Besides, getting all of the achievements in this game isn't hard at all.

Yes, I'd have to get Unbound first-- but it would represent the fact that I am finally beginning my foray into Skyrim. I just got as far as just before Unbound. And yes, Blessed would be a likely #1001. =)

I also like your suggestion of "Fuzzy lil fellow!" Yes, I have only farmed the cards for it, but I do want to play it (along with my other unplayed HOGs). This is a contender, thank you. <3

Well, u will have feeling like "Oh lets start another quest line when i finished", several times. Some are quite long, that u will see the sun going down ^^

Depending if u want to do stuff with guides or not ofc, some puzzles in crypts may be quite tricky, although majority is quite "nub proof" :D

That's pretty funny! The only downside is that it would leave me at 1/47 achievements (2%) which would hurt the old average-- unless I decided that this was the next game to dig into. =)

hmm, then you should do "Transmission Received" from portal

Yep, "Transmission Received" from Portal has been suggested and is a candidate.
The hidden achievement in LYNE actually unlocks automatically with progression (after getting 50 "trytes.") Strange, huh?

how about "Fire and Forget" from TF2, you have to kill 15 players while you're dead. I did this by acting as a kamikaze xD, you get yourself like a crazy to burn all, throwing flames in all directions, they kill you and wait for your flames end up your work hahaha

LOL, sounds fun. Never played TF2 before. Do you realize, though, what 1/513 achievements would do to my average completion percentage?!?!?! =)

Given that you seen to be a fan of the series, why not go with "The beginning of the end" from Dreamfall Chapters? You'll basically get it just by starting up the game and making a little progress.

I am waiting until all 5 episodes are out and patched before I immerse myself in the game/story. I don't play episodic games "episodically."
