Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world. We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.

home builds will still reign supreme in every aspect. Steam just want a piece of the console pie. It's about getting a foothold in that market to compete, not making classic steam users happy.

DoTA 2: Episode 1.

Somehow this has something to do with input. Maybe because everyone will throw their keyboards, mice, and controllers when they see it.

You can hook it up to your tv, it supports playing games either with controllers or keyboard+mouse, you can stream music and video...that's amazing, I wish I could think of one device that can currently do the same. Oh, that's right, the fucking pc, which I've been using for the past 18 years or so...

Yeah......ever think you may not be the target demographic in this instance?

It's not that I may not be the demographic, it's that I can't see anyone as being the target demographic. Want to play your pc games on your livingroom tv? Hook your fucking pc to your livingroom tv for the price of nothing.

Or, let's imagine that a person is a console gamer who uses a 3-year-old laptop that works fine for all of their PC needs (word processing, email, etc.). They've always heard about the awesome sales that PC games have, but have never been able to justify owning both a console and a gaming PC. And the next time said person goes to get the next-gen console, imagine that they suddenly have a comparable option that allows them access to all the PC things they've heard about/have been interested in with none of the learning curve and/or tinkering that has always been attached to PCs.

You believe this scenario doesn't exist, or wouldn't be common enough? Once again, it's a good idea, it's just one that doesn't apply to someone like you (or myself) who already have a Big Picture setup.

You have an 18 year old PC that can run Steam AND stream video? Did it have a 6 digit price tag when you bought it? At the high end a machine that old should be in the 500 MHz range for a desktop.

'the fucking pc, which I've been using for the past 18 years or so'. Not 'the fucking pc which I've been using for the past 18 years'.

Ok, no hardware upgrade for my PC. I'll just buy a PS4 and a steambox. I'll use my PC to make spreadsheets from now on.

This, except I'll throw out my pc and buy a surface. Perhaps settle down somewhere and enjoy long walks on the beach with a steambox.

As someone only with a pretty poor "gaming" laptop, this will fit in nicely, although Streaming has me worried.

I support the development of a VALVE PC running SteamOS, it could be great for gaming. I don't understand their infatuation with the living room, though.

Nice to lay on a bed or whatever and play and relax sometimes, I personally don't always wanna sit in a chair with a monitor in my face.

Sometimes I do though...

The "console type" market is 100X bigger than the traditional PC gaming market.

I'm damn excited. I hope the prices are low enough to entice me into buying one instead of a gaming pc or other console
