This is not a complaint; this is just an inquiry.

I noticed my level dropped, so I was going through my previous giveaways to determine which game values were reduced. When this happens, I am usually able to figure out why, but this time I wasn't. According to the giveaway creation screen, it was for Doug Flutie's Maximum Football 2020, which I had gifted a few copies away earlier this year. It now says "zero contributor value since August 29th, 2022."

According to the FAQ, "no" and "reduced" values are set for a game when it has been "featured in bundles, heavily discounted, or available for free in online promotions.".

I don't know of any bundle this game was included in, and I am unaware of any online promotions where the game was given away. Looking at the price history via isthereanydeals and ggdeals shows that the game was discounted to 6 USD from 30 USD on August 29, 2022; however, this wasn't the first time the game had been discounted to 6 USD. The first time the game was discounted to 6 USD was on October 25, 2021.

So here are my questions:

  1. Was there a free online promotion I missed somewhere that occurred around August 29th, 2022?
  2. Was this game included in a bundle that I missed somewhere that occurred around August 29th, 2022?
  3. If the discount amount was what determined the "no value" tag, then why isn't the "no value" date set for October 28, 2021?
  4. At what discount percentage does a game need to be set to be marked as a "reduced value" or "no value" game?
  5. Is there a way to reference why a game value was reduced on Steamgifts (link to bundle, promo, or discount source)?

Thanks for reading my rambling. Here is a mandatory giveaway.

Why was the game value set for "No Value" on the 29th of August, 2022?

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the response.

You're mistaken, it has nothing to do with a specific SG member.

From what I see listed as to why the Doughlings Invasion was reduced to zero CV was due to a twitch streamer giving away thousands of copies.

There is no conspiracy against SG members giving away multiple copies, please stop insinuating that.

There was a giveaway on that exact date on Gleam for 2500 keys. Because of THIS (and NOT a user giving away multiple copies) it was made 0 CV.

You specifically wrote:
"So the date it is set to 0CV is a date near their first GA. This is not a coincidence, and has nothing to do freebies, bundles or discounts occuring at that time. It is targeted at that user."

1) A single user gives away multiple copies. This draws attention to either mods, or users reporting it to mods.

Yes

2) Mod decides to reduce it to 15% or 0% and the date chosen, if nothing is found, is based on the dates that GAs are created.

Most likely.
And it's correct, because only the timeframe is important when GAs got created for that game, because it influence the cv, and not days/weeks that no one created GAs for that game (and no cv changed in any way, if the game would be listed as full value, reduced or free).

If this user has given away the same game multiple times, it's probably because he got it through a bundle or giveaway system somewhere. And on gg.deals you can see that this game (Doughlings: Invasion) has been on sale on gray market stores for less than $1 (and often less than $0.5) for a long time. It would be very surprising if it wasn't part of a very low-cost bundle or even a massive giveaway somewhere in the world.

The freebies/bundles decissions aren't directed against a specific user and their dates are not picked because user XYZ gifted game ZXY for X times.

But in general spoken, when users give multiple copies of the same game at the same time, or in a very short timeframe, then it is mostly the case that the game is for free or very cheap available at that time or very short before.
And in many cases it shows too that the user(s) are multiaccounters on freebie sites and/or twitch streams.

So it isn't a "coincidence" that the date fit then to the time the GAs were created.
The most, of such, users create the GAs as fast as possible after claiming the keys, from the freebie sites and/or twitch streams, in the hope that the sg mods aren't aware about the source. Which raise the chance of getting full value (for a longer timeframe or forever) instead of lesser.

I set this yesterday and made a mistake with the date. It's fixed now. Apologies for the mix up.

For the more general inquiry, changes to CV are not against specific users. Seeing many giveaways for a game is the start of the process, not the end. Usually, many users don't suddenly make giveaways for the same game. They are made because there is a very good deal, a giveaway, or the game is free.

The CV system is manually monitored, so when we get a support ticket, see a discussions posts, or see a lot of giveaways appear in a feed we look into it. Sometimes it's just a good deal and CV stays at the normal level. Other times the discount is at a level that means a change in CV is necessary to avoid CV abuse.

  1. No
  2. No
  3. Fixed, that was human error. Sorry!
  4. The exact amount isn't made public because it would encourage people to go 'just' below it and other factors come into play like regional pricing, so it is not possible to say X% because there will always be exceptions to the 'general rule'.
  5. No
