Notre-Dame de Paris
The year is 1163. We are in High Middle Ages.
Louis VII is ruling France and the Second Crusade he led 25 years ago has been a disaster, and a great victory for Muslims.
Henry II is ruling in England, and just signed a peace Treaty with Louis the French ruler, while the two were quarreling for decades.
13 years ago, Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona, married Queen Petronilla of Aragon.
These are interesting times.
Other forces to be reckoned with are the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Song Dynasty in China. In a few years, Genghis Khan will raise and after him the Mongol Golden Horde.
The year is 1163 and the population of Paris, as other cities in Western Europe, is rising fast. Its cathedral, on one of the islands of the river Seine in the heart of Paris, will soon be too small. Bishop Maurice de Sully decides to demolish it and build it anew.
Note: Collect the passcodes from the 4 landmarks from this week to gain access to a train for week 3!
